ELI5: Why did we discard the term 'race' to refer to humans?

I'M NOT RACIST, THIS IS MORE OF A ETHYMOLOGY/BIOLOGY QUESTIONI was discussing with my partner about the term 'race' being discarded because we humans are all, well, humans, homo sapiens sapiens, right? A different hominid would be a neardenthal and that would be a different race.He asked what about dogs/cats/whatever. I said all dogs are dogs, canis lupus familiaris, regardless of how they look. Even if a pug and a doberman are nothing alike, both are just dogs. Maybe the confussion comes because in my language we use the word race to refer to different breeds, and don't have a word to separate race/breed.So. Even if phenotypically there are differences between different species of the same genus (is that the word?) they are the same. Then, where do scientist draw the line with the word 'race' or is it inaccuarate entirely and not used anymore?Thanks in advace!

I feel that “Black Mirror” has so much character creation and story to fit into each episode, that every second and every detail , of every scene, matters. I know it is often dark, and has its fair share of gore, but I sure do love the series.

Personal Information Techinal Help Needed Urgently

I requested and received my personal information from Netflix. It contained a file "MessagesSentByNetflix". Under the column "Message Name" there are messages labeled "Barrower Resolution Interstitial". What does this mean? Under the column "Channel" it has some labeled "Alerts". What does this mean? With most messages there is no logged interaction or device. Is there a way to see what device triggered this message? Is there a way to see if there was in fact any interaction? Is there a way to get more IP information? Is there detailed information about the length of active periods of browsing? I need exact technical definitions of what these things mean and as detailed as possible information about interactions during a given period. I need this information urgently. I can't emphasize enough how critical my need for this information is.

ELI5: why is air blown out through pursed lips feels cold, while air from an open mouth feels warm?

Been bugging me for a while - if you breathe out onto your hand then air feels warm, but blowing through lips feels cold. In the same vein, why does breathing with an open mouth on glass creates condensation, while blowing through lips doesn't.

ELI5 Why do people say to not pay down your mortgage if you have other investments

Hello folks, I’m hoping someone can explain this to me like I’m 5. I’ve been wondering this for quite some time and can’t seem to make sense of it. I’m pretty savvy financially but I just can’t fathom how paying my mortgage every month (roughly $2500 - principle balance being about 400k) and holding roughly 200k in investments that I won’t touch until retirement makes sense. Wouldn’t it make more sense to pay my mortgage down as fast as possible with that money and accelerated payments and then invest? I can’t find an investment that returns $2500/month on 200k so, I ask, why? Thanks

ELI5: USA Health Insurance Copays

I have to get my own insurance this year.I always thought the copays were what you had to pay and insurance covers the rest.Copays don't kick in until you reach the deductible limit?ex) I have to spend $2,000-something myself on doctors visits and THEN after I hit that number it only starts to cost the $25 or $50?And is that how my prescriptions will work too? Right now it only costs me $10 a month.

I have 3 Rokus and one of them (newest Roku Ultra 2024) doesn't show Netflix on my home page no matter how I try! I can only access it through the remote or "channel lineup" -- no problem with other apps. This is known issue from what I read online, is a fix or workaround available?

But also, my continue watching list is gone and i cant even search for the show I want because it's "gone" on my profile. My partner can search it fine on the same account, by just using her profile. My theory is that they're trying to subtlety encourage me back to subscribing. Would you agree?
