ELI5 Help me understand tarrifs

So every time I see someone talking about tariffs, they are saying that the average person doesn't know how they work because the tax is paid by the company that purchases the imported goods, which in turn means that the cost will then be passed onto the consumer.Why then are these foreign leaders upset and are taking retaliatory measures to these tariffs. If the cost is truly 100% passed onto the American consumer, then wouldn't these foreign countries not care?Edit: ok I understand nowHigher prices on foreign goods means American consumers won’t buy those particular imported goods due to the higher prices from the tax, which means foreign companies won’t be making money because American companies will stop purchasing these imported goods due to them not selling.

Hello im from aus and netflix is being weird. It changed my mom’s profile pic and then deleted the shows im watching and are unfortunately not there anymore like what? They usually remind me that shows will no longer available at a certain date but it just fully removed all my shows like anime such as jujutsu kaisen and dandadan :< is this a bug or something?

ELI5 why does hold music always get staticy?

Was on extended hold with tech for my ISP who were playing generic hold music. After maybe two minutes it started getting periods of noise like waves on a beach or something. It would go away and come back. Recall exactly the same on hold with Bell, Rogers, CRA and two banks. Different songs, same noise. Anyone know what causes this? It seems to be universal on hold queues.

I'm seeing no anime and very little shows in general, on Netflix, that aren't Netflix originals.

Am I just experiencing a glitch or is this an established thing that Netflix does every once in a while? Because I have tried on both my phone and Xbox, and I'm seeing the exact same thing: the majority of the content being Netflix originals. I also experienced this a couple weeks ago, but it went back to normal like an hour later, which is why I'm asking if it's an established thing or not.

YSK: bear bells are largely ineffective at keeping bears away

Why YSK: effectively identifying yourself to bears is paramount when in brown bear country. Bear bells are not great at that.You've seen them in outdoor stores and heard them on the trails: little jangly bells that attach to your gear and make noise so you don't surprise a bear. Easy peasy, right? Well, not so much...They are not really all that loud. If it can't be heard from a few switchbacks away, it's not loud enough to alert bears at a distance. They're certainly not louder than running water if you're hiking near a river.Bears don't know what that sound is, and therefore don't associate it with danger. Human voices, cracking branches, loud sudden noises? They know to head in the other direction. But soft jingles? There's nothing in that sound that would trigger a bear to leave the area. They know what danger sounds like; a little bell is not an alarming sound that would instigate the flight reaction you're looking for.Repetitious sounds become easy to ignore. Animals (humans included) are much more likely to react to an irregular sound, like a sudden shout, than a soft, repetitive jingle. Bells run the danger of becoming background noise.So what should you do? If you're in a group (recommended), make sure you're talking amongst yourselves. If silence is what you're looking for, AT LEAST give a good shout every five minutes, especially if you're cresting a hill, coming 'round a bend, entering brush, or in some other situation where visibility is limited. If alone, intensify these efforts and make it a game. I like to very loudly list all the Pokémon I know...it usually gives me a few hours of content (yeah, yeah, I'm a nerd). And remember to be loud and shout it out-you have to be much louder than a bell. You might feel a bit crazy, but it's the best way to be safe in bear country. Remember: the vast majority of bear attacks are defensive as a result of surprising a bear. There's no need to hike in fear as long as you're taking the correct steps to respect these animals. And always carry your bear spray. Happy hiking!Source: park ranger who does a lot of solo hiking in brown bear territory. Also tired of hearing people jingle-jangle through the visitor center 8 hours a day.TLDR: bear bells are neither loud nor alarming enough to keep you safe from bears. You're better off using your own voice.

(SPOILERS) All The Light We Cannot See is an offensively poor representation of the story told in the book

I haven’t had Netflix for an extremely long time. Like a decade or more. Recently I finished reading All The Light We Cannot See. It’s an outstanding story that deserves the Pulitzer Prize it was awarded. I learned that Netflix made a 4 episode mini series and couldn’t want to watch it. So I actually subbed for a month JUST to watch this. Very early into episode 1 and I was already saying “uh oh”. It’s got some pretty cheesy acting. The actress that plays Marie looks nothing like how she’s described in the book. Nobody has an accent that makes sense. I know people say Mark Ruffalo had the worse accent, but ignoring that I thought he actually played the role decently well. All of that is stuff I can ignore, though. The real issue is half the story didn’t end up in the show. Like minimum half the story. Probably more is missing in reality. And with it, half the characters are gone, too. The story that did manage to make it into the show had nearly every aspect of it changed. I can’t think of anything original from the book that made its way into the show. Characters who never met in the book have screen time together. Who lives and dies is changed. Characters who don’t kill anybody are suddenly gunning people down. The ending is changed. I mean it’s seriously almost an entirely different story. Which is frustrating when you know the amazing story that this was sourced from. Had I never read the book, I’d probably have watched it and thought “meh”. But knowing what they did to butcher this, I have to call it a complete failure. It doesn’t manage to capture anything about the original story it’s supposed to represent.
