Sand Castle: When 'psychological' means 'nonsensical'

Spoiler alert!The first half: vibes of thrill and a beautiful family working together to survive. Then it all turns for the worse. The mom delves into the water to save her drowning kid. And from this point onwards, little to nothing made sense. Suddenly Jana(?) turned out not to be in the water. Then the mom drowned? Although it was never clear, because they dragged her into the cabin(?). Yep — dead I guess? She never appeared again, so. But the brother (Adam) tells Jana nothing. The dad asks for a cup of coffee. Then a bit later he crawls out to the shore and appears to have some sort of strange seizure. The son (Adam) puts on his headphones. Is the dad dead now too?"We'll see mom and dad soon," the son tells his sister. Ehm . . . okay, is that a look back to when they were alone in the boat, before it capsized (mentioned in the beginning)? Nope, they seem to be on the island still, so it's the present. And then too much psychological randomness to handle. Pictures flashing by, views into different places without context. All kids in a school being bombed (seemingly on the island too?). And Yara, which I thought was Jana's late sister, wearing that shoe. Suddenly the island is covered with water, rising and rising, and from the lighthouse a blow-up boat suddenly unfolds — which had previously been underneath the sand on the shore. That's right after they managed to communicate their location on the radio and saw help pass by, upon which Adam thought he could swin out to the boat with a short rope for safety. What am I missing?
Why was it so incomprehensible to me?

Hidden gem

My gf and I have recently stumbled across the show Loudermilk. It’s about a substance abuse counselor also an ex addict, meetings that he host. Triggers, along with his events that take place in his life. As a child of two alcoholic parents this series appeals to me. I find it very entertaining. Ron Livingston, who plays the main character Sam loudermilk is an excellent actor . I feel as if he isn’t acting that’s just the type of person he is and I love it. If you haven’t seen it I encourage you to watch at least 2 episodes. Each which are 30 minutes long definitely worth the watch IMP.

ELI5: little light to indicate cheaper electricity rates?

Growing up in ex-Yugoslavia, I distinctly remember my grandparents (and everyone else I presume) having a little orange light on their fuse box (these were commonly just above the apartment doors) that would light up late in the evening when the electricity rates would switch to lower tariff (and stay lit up during weekends). I presume this still happens but grandparents are long gone and I don’t have anyone to check (and my fuse boxes in the U.S., Canada, UK, CH etc never had lights). How do these lights work? Does cheaper electricity have different frequency to trigger a light switch?

ELI5: Why are industry standard framerates / monitor refresh rates multiples of 15/30, instead of powers of 2?

Almost everything in computer hardware is in powers of two, like 16gb ram, 512gb storage, etc. Why isn't framerate/refresh rate also something that scales like that? the standard framerates we have arent even that far off of powers of 2, like 30-32, 60-64, 120-128, 240-256.wouldnt having the framerate be a power of two like the rest of the computer provide some performance benefit? or is the time that would have been taken by frames instead used for things like image processing?

I watched this last night at work and I’m confused about all the hate towards the brother after reading some other reviews. I feel like if I was Alex, I wouldn’t want to know. I don’t understand the whole “you kept this from me and it’s the ultimate betrayal” thing. What is the point of telling someone about trauma and abuse that they went through if they would’ve never remembered it. I think Marcus was right for trying to protect his brother. What do you guys think? I feel like I’m alone in this opinion

What is everyone's obsession about Stranger Things?

I recently started to watch this show for the first time because I heard so much good about it.Season one and two had me hooked, season 3 was awezome too but season 4 is really bad...This season has been very slow and boring, the only fun parts are the brief moments when Vecna appears. I need to really force myself to watch more than one episode at a time because 10 minutes in and I am almost falling asleep. My attention keeps going to the phone while the episode is playing in the background.I have episodes 7, 8 and 9 left to watch of season 4. Please say it gets better and more exciting than what it has been up until now or else this has been the worst season so far.

Netflix has dropped quality too far!

Let me start by saying, I've been using this service for around 10 years, so this is from bitter experience.I'm using Netflix on a 4k HDR 2021 Samsung tv, on the Netflix app, from a wired cat. 6 connection to a 1000/1000 fiber line with very low latency. I have also tested from a 4K Google TV and several phones, Android and iOS, the results are very similar. Poor picture quality. I have also tested different connection types from different locations,Over the past five years i have noticed a very steep decline in quality, especially on older titles and titles that "aren't hot". I know why, it's the amount of data, both sending, receiving and storing. It's expensive, and thats why I was willing to pay almost 40 dollars monthly.You must have slashed the budget on data storage and capacity and tweaked your balancing algorithm too much! Because you want to invest in new (often very poorly made) content on your service so we, the users, keep paying. I am on the 4k package, I'm paying through my teeth for a crisp image, and you deliver this gritty, lumpy, pixelated picture on my devices? Please take a look at why, besides volume of content, people keep using your service.Start using qualified people to check the algorithmic content you're spewing out, and have better standards for picture quality. This is unacceptable!I don't even have to share a picture, you can just check for yourself.

Of course there are countries that aren't officially"recognized" by some or part of the world. Does the Olympic committe just independently decide? Could a group of people just pretend they're a country and apply?This would be the greatest troll ever. Imagine Hawaii entering a their own country and competing against the US in surfing.
