ELI5: How does the Filibuster Actually stop legislation?

So I understand what a filibuster is and how it works in practice. A filibuster is when a politician intentionally speaks as long as possible during debate to prevent a vote on legislation. And I know in practice, it means that any legislation needs 60 votes for cloture to end debate and bring legislation to a vote. But my question is, how? Is the belief that every member of the minority party will take turns filibustering and delay the legislation for days if not weeks and derail the rest of the agenda? I’m trying to bridge the concept of a politician sitting in the pulpit for 12 hours reading off a phone book and how it works in practice where they vote for cloture and then give up if it doesn’t reach 60 votes. Can they just say they want to keep debate open and sit there unless the senate majority leader either calls for cloture or moves on to another bill?

I came across this TikTok of a woman talking about a show she watched on Netflix which was immediately removed as it turned out to be based on a true story. ELI5: why doesn't a looming shortage of freshwater in the Southwest United States feel like a more urgent threat?

I know negotiations among states that draw from the Colorado River are ongoing with water rationing measures being discussed, but it feels like the threat of water shortage doesn't align with booming growth in this part of the country. Is the threat overstated? Are there solutions available when things get really dire? Or is it just hubris of prioritizing short term profits instead of long term sustainability? All the above?

There was no justice served in The Perfect Couple - here’s why

Full spoilers for all of The Perfect Couple ahead ~TLDR: There is 0 chance Abby would ever be convicted for Merritt’s murder. The police had no real evidence against her. So….in between her arrest and the 6-month epilogue Abby would have been released, had her baby, and accessed Tom’s trust money either via Tom himself or at least child support. And the Winbury family + Amelia + the police just have to take it, despite knowing that she was the murderer :D Long version: Let’s play this out. The chief and Dt. Henry have arrested Abby. She lawyers up immediately as she loudly stated she would and doesn’t say another word. What do the police actually have on Abby? 1) She washed a glass herself (pretty well, it looked like. No barbiturate residue or Merritt DNA there). 2) She lied about her husband coming to bed (que her crying at counsel table as her lawyer explains in closing arguments how sad, pregnant Abby was just too embarrassed to admit her husband’s infidelity to the officers). 3) Traces of tallow, an ingredient in the lotion Abby used were found in Merritt’s hair (…Abby hugged Merritt at some point, fixed her hair while they were dancing, left the lotion in a common bathroom and anyone could have used it, pick your excuse). These clues might have been enough for Dan and Henry to peg Abby as the killer, but they’re nowhere near enough to convict someone of murder beyond a reasonable doubt. Especially given how easily Merritt’s death could be spun as just a tragic accident. Merritt had a very public reputation as a party girl, access to Tom’s stash of roulette drugs, a lot of reason to be self-medicating after the night she had, and was last seen sitting by the water she drowned in. The bruising on her wrists? Those were from Tag, never Abby, and Tag admitted to confronting her earlier. I tried convincing myself that the police would find some more damning evidence in their search post-Abby’s arrest, but…like what? It’s implied Abby already washed her clothes and sheets. She even wiped down Tom’s stash drawer. And Abby and Merritt were both wandering the house and interacting before the murder which would explain most other physical evidence. What could the police possibly find short of never-before-mentioned camera footage that would link Abby to the crime?Then there’s what the police already have. Will’s blood on the beach, Tag’s jacket in the water, Benji’s voicemail, and a $300K payment made by Greer to a known criminal. Which brings us to…Alternate suspects: Tag, Greer….Will, Gosia, Shooter or Benji? There are so many options that a half-decent defense lawyer would have a field day with. Tag - admitted to having a late night physical confrontation with his increasingly inconvenient pregnant mistress. The only evidence clearing him are smartwatch readings that, as Detective Henry herself pointed out, would never hold up in court. And anyone will testify that he has plenty of access to and interest in Tom’s roulette pills. Greer - admitted to being up at the time of Merritt’s death, admitted via the bracelet receipt that she knew about Tag’s affair, and could have been provoked enough to take matters into her own hands. Or…Broderick being her brother doesn’t mean he couldn’t also have acted as her hit man. I doubt the Turkish not-mafia gave him notarized receipts to prove he had $300K in gambling debts, and it does look odd that he flew all the way to Nantucket for a remote wire-transfer. I won’t go into the others, but they all knew about and could have accessed Tom’s drug stash, had some potential motive, and don’t have video-proven alibis for Merritt’s time of death. …..soooooooo. No conviction. Maybe not even a trial, if all they could bring to the judge were traces of lotion and some uncharacteristic dish-washing. Abby walks free and at most Merritt’s shitty stepdad (mentioned once (!) in that flashback phone call) gets a settlement from a civil negligence suit against Tag. Amelia has…

How I Finally Got 4K HDR and 5.1 Audio on Netflix with Chrome

We all loved the old app, but Edge finally broke it for me. I was stuck at 1080p, and support just said, “wait for an update.” Who knows when that’ll be. Netflix support basically told me to get lost with my Windows HTPC.So, I switched to Chrome and added the Super Netflix extension. Boom, 4K HDR! Not sure if the extension did it, but I didn’t want to mess with it. Still, the audio was only 2.0.Then, I added the Boom 3D 5.1 Netflix extension. No idea what it does, but it worked.Now, I get 4K HDR with multi-channel audio, the thing I paid for. For reference, I’m running this on Windows 10, with a Ryzen 1400, GTX 1080 Ti, and a stick of 16GB DDR4.Funny thing, Chrome isn’t even listed as a supported browser for 4K on Netflix. Clearly, their teams aren’t talking. We users have to find our own fixes. Hope this helps Windows users until they sort out the new app.

Abby didn’t actually need to kill Merrit.If Will was just weeks away from turning 18, Merrit would have still been in the early stages of her pregnancy. It’s possible that word hadn’t spread about the unborn child being added to the trust yet. This means Abby and Tom could have received the trust money before anyone knew about the baby.Given the circumstances, murder feels like an extreme response. Abby could have tried to persuade Merrit to consider an abortion instead. What do you all think?

What should i do about this twin flame

There's this girl who is a alleged twin flame. Im having troubles with her. She ran last year. She's a bit young in terms of compatibility. she 21 there;s a age gap. Now she wanted to come back this year. She was eager to tlak to me so i called her but the meeting went bad. After that there were no efforts of her talking , she was a little sad though. What can i do about this situation. I was going to text her that i insist she meet up ..blah blah.Now another thing about this whole twin flame thing is i there was energetic pull between us and i noticed that when she wanted to come back 2 months ago. Im just seeing all the things about twin flame being like a cult and what not. It did seem like that when i was going deeper into it the last 2 months. The mirror exercises kind of made me doubt myself. I also want a regular advice like what do i do about this as someone who can advice in general relationship wise. She's a bit immature for me. But there is hope if she can mature and change with me. Is it worth the time ?
