It's not like a formal science or anything, but when it comes to problems, there are often people who want to be helped, people who want to be hugged, and people who want to be heard.You can even ask - "do you want to be helped, hugged, or heard right now?"People who want to be helped are interested in solutions. They generally don't want your pity or your validation, they're often looking at the situation from a "what do I do" standpoint.People who want to be heard aren't looking for solutions, and instead want to be listened to. Their general goal is to be validated, and look at the situation from a "isn't this horrible, oh my god" standpoint.People who want to be hugged are often looking for physical touch or even just your presence. They may not even want to talk about the problem, just to be near someone who makes them feel safe.Why YSK: If you try to solve the problem using a method that doesn't work for that person or that problem or their current emotional state, you'll risk making the problem worse. A hugger who had their parents just die isn't going to want to answer questions about their parents' wills, and instead will just want a hug or for gentle conversation around it or maybe even just might want to spend time with you taking their mind off of it. A helper who had their house catch on fire probably wants you to help them call up insurance companies, not sit around and talk about how hard the fire has been for them. A heard-er (strange name I know, but I'm sticking with it) who just had a breakup wants you to listen to them vent and say things like "wow, that's so horrible" and "oh my gosh that must be so hard" to validate them, not solve all their problems for them. In particular, heard-ers and helpers often get into a lot of issues where the heard-er will say "can't you just LISTEN to me?! Do you not see how horrible this is?!" and the helper will say "I don't see what the big deal is. Why don't you just do X?" and after a long-standing pattern of this, the heard-er will feel invalidated for not feeling listened to and the heard-er will feel the same because the heard-er never takes their advice (because they're not looking for it) and resentment can form, with the helper often feeling exhausted by needing to listen and provide validation, and the heard-er feeling completely unsupported by not feeling understood.As always, balance is key - some people are a mix and change depending on the time of day, what the problem is, how big the problem is, etc. It's important to not judge other people for their styles, either - heard-ers can often think of helpers as callous and uninterested, while helpers are taken aback at the accusation that they don't care - "clearly I care, I just presented solutions" - and can consider helpers as solely wallowing in self-pity. But in reality the world takes all types!

What happened to the netflix stream quality on devices???

I did not play anything on my tablet or s22 ultra for a long time. I got sick and wanted to watch american primeval and holy crap, does it look pixelated. Stream qaulity limited to 1080p??? With a 500mbs wifi? Did they purposefully reduce it for all 1440p devices?

Not all shows appearing

Hi! I saw this issue popping up for other people as well while I was googling it but I couldn’t find anywhere any solution. My boyfriend and I are using the same Netflix account. He doesn’t have any issue on his profile, he sees all shows, doesn’t matter if it’s on the laptop, phone, on WiFi, on mobile data. For me, however, on my profile, no matter if it’s my laptop or phone, if I am on WiFi, wherever (work, home, at parents), I don’t see all the shows - only if I use my mobile data, I can see everything. Does anybody have any suggestion? It can’t be the WiFi network, cause it’s working from my boyfriend.

ELI5: why has video game addiction been added to the latest DSM where pornography addiction has not?

As someone who had experienced porn addiction and mild video game addiction (when I was younger) I’ve experienced the two to be virtually identical. If the DSM is supposed to be a classification mental illnesses (rather than neurological disorders), and therefore nothing in it is technically observable (I.e. the difference wouldn’t be the lack of neurological observability in one vs the other), then why treat one differently to the other?

Shows/movies are too dark on TV (bug)

When I open the Netflix app on my RCA TV all the previews, UI, thumbnails, and trailers are all a normal brightness, but when I actually press play on a show, the show turns dark due to a filter that darkens the screen to show certain UI elements like the play button and red line. This is expected, but then the UI elements fade away (as they are supposed to) but the dark filter stays and does not go away, so basically I am stuck watching a show with that dark filter permanently on, making the show very dark. Has anyone experienced this before ? Does anyone know how to fix this?

Hey guys I have very minimal information on this show but I kept seeing it on TikTok before it was banned here in the U.S. It was a brown girl dating a white guy. One scene was them in bad and she made him cuddle her. The next was him alone in bed and the room was dark. I think I remember seeing her crying from one trailer ? Idkkkk!! Personalised notifications despite being logged out

Hey, so I used to share a Netflix account with my sister some time ago and was logged in with that account on my phone. I have my own account now though, with only my profile, and I keep getting notifications from Netflix with recommendations using her name, even after reinstalling the app. I don't know if it's just the wrong name or if it's actually recommendations for her, but I suppose the first makes more sense. Does anyone know why this happens?

I used my account overseas while on vacation and they can still access its contents even after I left the country

I went overseas (parents’ home) during the holiday season and was able to access my account. After returning to my current country, I got curious and asked my family if they can still access my account and they still can! I don’t mind sharing my account with them but how long will this keep? Suddenly, my netflix program on my tablet won't allow me to watch my shows...

Context: I have a tablet for both reading and watching Netflix. My son uses it also for his learning games. Now I do have the parental controls set on his side of netflix for nothing above a G rating. But my side is admin, and I went under the manage profiles tab and my side shows no viewing restrictions but anytime I go back and try to go into my continue watching, I keep getting the error message: this title cannot be played because it exceeds the max maturity rating...when it shouldn't. Now also I checked my mother's profile too, and hers is set like mine= no restrictions, and hers is working fine. I have cleared the cache and have even restarted the tablet and it still isn't clearing this issue. Has anyone else had this happen to them? Should I just uninstall the app & reinstall it?

Household pop-up came back after not showing up for a while

I have a profile in my family members' account, so the household pop-up kept appearing every time i opened the app (though i had my ways of getting around it), but after a while, the pop-up simply stopped appearing, even when i was using mobile data and my own tv, it was like that for quite some time, however, it came back again... Does anyone know what i (or they) did and how can i do this again?
