➨Satavahana dynasty ruled from Pune in Maharastra to Coastal Andhra Pradesh in the 2nd century BC onwards.The coins issued by Satavahanas had Bilingual legends. The name of the Kings was mentioned in Prakrit as well as some south Indian Language. Satavahana Kings promoted Buddhism. Satkarni I was the first Satavahana King to introduce the Ruler’s head on the coins.
➨Channa was the name of Charioteer of Gautam Buddha.
➨Rashtrakutas adopted “Garuda”as dynastic emblem after the imperial Guptas.
➨The University of Nalanda was established at Badagoan,Bihar in the 5th century during the reign of the Gupta emperor Kumaragupta I.
➨The second Jain Council was held at Vallabhi under the chairmainship of Devaradhi Kshamasramana in 512 AD and resulted in finl compilation of 12 Angas and 12 Upangas.
➨Harshavardhan wrote three sanskrit plays- Nagananda, Ratnavali and Priyadarshika.
➨The Pallava King Mahendravarman I got defeated by the Chalukya King Pulakesin II. Though, Narasimhavarman I (the son of Mahendravarman I) took the revenge of his father from Pulakesin II by defeating and killing him in the Battle of Vatapi in 642 AD and captured the Chalukyan capital, Vatapi. Thus, he assumed the title of ‘Vatapikonda’ (Conqueror of Vatapi).
➨Aihole inscription mentions the name of Kalidasa .
➨Sursena Mathura, the famous city was the capital of Sursena Mahajanpada.
➨The Mauryan emperor, Ashoka invaded Kalinga in 261 BC and after a fierce battle Kalinga was conquered. The 13th rock edict of Ashoka elaborates the Kalinga war.
JINNAH DIRECT ACTION RESOLUTION
• The Muslim League under Mohammad Ali Jinnah withdrew its acceptance from the long-term plan of Cabinet Mission in response to Nehru’s statement and gave a call for “direct action” from August 16 to achieve Pakistan.
• Nehru during the Constitutional Assembly election stated, “We are not bound by a single thing except that we have decided to go into the Constituent Assembly (implying that the Constituent Assembly was sovereign and would decide the rules of procedure). The big probability is that there would be no grouping as NWFP and Assam would have objections to joining Muslim majority sections B and C.”
• Muhammad Ali Jinnah called for Muslims all over the country to ‘suspend all business’. This was to put pressure on the British government to relent to the Muslim League’s (headed by Jinnah) demand of dividing the country on the basis of religion, thereby allowing the creation of a Muslim dominated Pakistan.

➨ Harsha was a great supporter of the arts and learning. It is believed that he wrote three dramas- Priyadarshika and Ratnavali which are both romantic comedies, and Nagananda which is based on Bodhisattva Jimutavahana.
➨ The Rashtrakutas as a kingdom rose in power from 753 CE. Dantidurga was a very accomplished ruler and defeated many kingdoms like that of Gurjaras of Malwa and also the rulers of Kalinga, Kosala, and Srisailam.
➨ Mihir Bhoja who ruled from 836 C.E. to 885 C.E. had his capital at Kannauj. It was also called Mahodaya. In one of the earliest inscriptions of Mihir Bhoja, the Barah copper plate inscription, there is mention of a military camp at Mahodaya.
➨ Vigrahapala was succeeded by Narayanapala. Narayanpala served for a long term and ruled for more than half a century. Narayanapala was succeeded by Rajyapala who was succeeded by Gopala II and Vigrahapala II.
➨ Avantivarman who ruled from 855 AD. to 883 AD was famous for his patronage of literature. He also launched some beneficent schemes of drainage and irrigation which was carried out by his minister of public works, Surya.
➨ The Gangas are also referred to as western Gangas or the Gangas of Mysore to demarcate them from eastern Gangas. The eastern Gangas ruled in Kalinga in the 5th century.
➨ The founder of the Hoyasala dynasty was Sala who is also known as Nripakama. Vinayaditya who was the son and successor of Sala was a feudatory of the Chalukya, Vikramaditya VI. Vinayaditya was succeeded by his son Ereyanga who in turn was succeeded by Ballala I.
➨ There are many Siva temples at Khajuraho. The Kandariya Mahadeva Temple is the largest and most ornate Hindu temple which was constructed in the 10th century AD. It is considered as one of the best examples of temples from the medieval period in India.
➨ According to Dasavatara-charitam written by Kshemendra, the ten avatars on lord Vishnu are Matsya (fish), Kurmra (tortoise), Varhba (Boar), Nrisimha (man-lion), Vamana (Dwarf), Parasurama, Rama, Krishna, Buddha, and Kalki. Krishna is considered to be the most popular. The worship of Krishna was popularised by the Bhagavata Purana.
➨ India had a flourishing trade with South-East Asia during the medieval period. The articles imported from that quarter were silk, porcelain ware, camphor, bees’ wax, cloves, lump camphor, sandalwood, and cardamom. Spices were imported from Java and Sumatra. India imported pearls, dry ginger, and tin from Ceylon.

➨58th Amendment to the Constitution of India provided for an authoritative text of the Constitution in Hindi language. It gave the same legal sanctity to the Hindi version of the Constitution.
➨According to the 91st Amendment Act of 2003 the provision of the 10th Schedule (anti-defection law) pertaining to exemption from disqualification in case of split by one-third members of legislature party has been deleted. Accordingly the defectors have no more protection on grounds of splits.
➨96th Amendment Act of 2011 substituted “Odia” for “Oriya”. As a result of that, the “Oriya” language in the Eighth Schedule shall be pronounced as “Odia”
➨Parliamentary Forum on Millennium Development Goals was created in year 2013. At present, there are eight Parliamentary forums such as Parliamentary Forum on Water Conservation and Management (2005), Parliamentary Forum on Youth (2006), Parliamentary Forum on Children (2006) etc.
➨According to the Article 124(7) of the Constitution of India, no person who has held office as a judge of the Supreme Court of India shall plead or act in any court or before any authority within the territory of India.
➨Judicial review has been declared by the Supreme Court as one of the elements of the basic structure of the Constitution, therefore, it cannot be curtailed even through a constitutional amendment. Both Supreme Court and High Court have the power of judicial review. And using judicial review, legislative enactments and executive orders of both the Central and State governments can be examined.
➨Article 312 of the Constitution authorises the Parliament to create new All-India Services on the basis of a Rajya Sabha resolution to that effect. The Centre and the states jointly control these services. However the ultimate control lies with the Central government but the immediate control vests with the state governments.
➨According to the Constitution of India a proclamation declaring financial emergency in India must be approved by both the Houses of Parliament within two months from the date of its issue.
➨‘Judicial dynamism’ refers to judicial activism which is the opposite of ‘judicial restraint’. Judicial restraint means the self-control to be exercised by the judiciary. Judicial activism, on the other hand, means the proactive role played by the judiciary to protect the rights of the citizens.
➨Judicial restraint means that the judges should play a limited role of saying what the law is, leaving the job of lawmaking for legislators and the executives. Moreover, judges must not allow their personal political values to influence their judicial opinions.
Montagu-Chelmsford Reforms and Government of India Act, 1919
• The British government, not prepared to part with or even share its power with the Indians, once again resorted to the policy of ‘carrot and stick’. The carrot was represented by the insubstantial Montagu- Chelmsford Reforms, while measures such as the Rowlatt Act represented the stick.

• Provincial legislative councils were further expanded and 70 percent of the members were to be elected.
• The system of communal and class electorates was further consolidated.
• Central Government
• No responsible government was envisaged in the Act for the government at the all-India level.
• A bicameral arrangement was introduced.
• The governor-general was to be the chief executive authority.
• The Act clarified that there would be a gradual development of self-governing institution in India and not self-determination of the people of India.
