Recently, the Income Tax Dept sent notices to 18 lakh persons regarding cash deposits made post demonetization. 15th February was the last date for submitting a reply. Now, nearly half of these 18 lakh people under the income tax scanner have been put in the 'doubtful' category for suspicious bank deposits post-note ban, but action against them will follow only after the new tax amnesty scheme ends on 31st March.
FYI - Under 'Operation Clean Money', the income tax department had sent SMSs and emails to 18 lakh people who, according to its data analysis, had made suspicious deposits of over Rs. 5 lakh during the 50-day window provided to get rid of old Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000 notes following the demonetisation on November 8. They were asked to clarify on the deposits and their source by February 15.

There are ways to use your time at work efficiently and maximise your output on any given day, while still saving time. Here are a few simple tricks:
1. Use cloud storage: Has it ever happened to you that you are travelling and you need that one file from your laptop right at that moment? If you use cloud storage, this will never happen - all your files will be available on every platform (any laptop, and even your phone). Dropbox and Google Drive are storages you can use for free.
2. PDFs do a lot more than present a document: Have you ever had the need to print a PDF document, sign it, then scan it back and email the soft copy? Apart from adding annotations and comments to a PDF document, you can also add signatures to your PDF using the in-built options. Just search for the 'Add Signature' option in the Menu bar and you can store your signatures with your PDF reader to be added to the required document, so you don't need to print, sign and scan.
3. Learn shortcuts: Working with PCs is not just about the right settings or preferences, but knowing the shortcut keys well. Did it ever happen to you that you closed a tab while browsing the web by mistake and now want it back? Just press `Ctrl+Shift+T' and it's back. There are shortcuts for everything!

In a first, drug regulator USFDA has raised concerns on the quality and efficacy of medicines being sold in India. This is perhaps the first instance that a foreign drug regulator has spoken about quality of medicines sold in the country. USFDA India director Mathew Thomas stated at an annual conference of the forum that he had tested some of the drugs (sold here in India), and discovered that they were not of standard quality. The observation on drugs comes at a time when pharma biggies have been involved in an exercise to clean up their act to meet norms laid down by drug regulators in the US, the UK and Europe - some of their most lucrative markets. Maybe, the lollipop of exports may do good to India's health!

Under the Prime offer, customers will continue to get unlimited benefits till March 31, 2018. To subscribe to this offer, existing and new subscribers of Jio (till March 31, 2017) will have to pay a one-time fee of Rs 99, and a monthly rental of Rs 303.
After cardiac stents, 14 more medical devices will soon see a price regulation. These devices are procured at a very low cost, and sold at anywhere upto 50 times more of their actual costs, to desperate patients. Regulating the prices would mean that they will not be permitted to be sold a price beyond a maximum capping set for it. After all, the medical profession is not a business! These devices include orthopedic implants, intraocular lenses and artificial heart valves to consumables such as syringes, needles and catheters.

Will Facebook be the new LinkedIn?
It has began letting businesses in USA or Canada post jobs and take applications from job seekers, posing a challenge to Microsoft-owned LinkedIn. Facebook's users will be able to find help-wanted posts at business pages on the platform or by looking in a new "jobs" bookmark on its mobile application. Job postings may appear in news feed streams if companies pay to promote them. Clicking on an "apply now" button will open an online form already filled out with relevant information from a person's Facebook profile. Applicants will then be able to add, edit, and review forms before submitting them!
Soon, this feature will be started in India, too.

If you, or your family, have to undergo coronary angioplasty to insert stents to open up clogged arteries - here is some good news: The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority has fixed the ceiling price of drug eluting stents (DES) and bioresorbable stents at Rs 30,000 and that of bare metal stents at Rs 7,500. It is easy to point a finger and comment that the Indian judicial system is miserable, especially when compared to countries like USA: yes, there is a difference, a massive one, but, courts of the USA handle about 10-20 cases per day, while the Indian courts have to handle some odd 400 cases per day!
