Researchers have identified four types of Facebook users:
1. Relationship Builders: they post a lot on Facebook in order to reinforce their relationships with people they know in the real world, especially family members.
2. Town Criers: they don't talk about themselves much, preferring instead to engage with the outside world and get as many of their friends engaged as well.
3. Selfies: they post lots of pictures, videos, and text updates, and thrive off of getting likes and comments.
4. Window Shoppers: these are the Facebookers who are on the platform all the time, but they never actually post anything. In some circles, it's called "lurking."
So, which one are you?
Stand up against #MedicalScams
This week, we are covering various scams rampant in the medical sector in India. One such scam is ‘unnecessary interventions’. This means that the doctor performs surgeries that were never required in the first place, such as unwarranted C-sections or root canals.
What to do: before any surgery recommended by any doctor, take 2 to 3 opinions atleast!

Stand up against #MedicalScams
This week, we are covering various scams rampant in the medical sector in India. One such scam is ‘kickbacks for referrals’. This means that when a general physician refers a patient to a specialist, he gets a commission for such a referral. While kickbacks are illegal in India, they are nearly impossible to avoid. Believe it or not: doctors typically get Rs. 30,000 to 40,000 per patient for referring them for angioplasty.
What to do: research about the doctor you are being referred to, and find out his charges before booking an appointment. Google the name of the doctor along with words like “fraud” and “scam” to ensure that he is not involved in any malpractices. Get reviews from patients who have visited him, if possible.

A home is where one feels safe, but not everyone is that privileged. Domestic abuse is rampant in our country, and here’s how you can #MakeADifference – contact AKS Foundation when you come across anyone who has been subjected to domestic abuse, on +91 8793088814 /15 /16. The helpline is a 24-hour crisis line that was launched in 2013. They have helped several women seeking help and refuge, who have been victims of domestic abuse, and wants them to be survivors against all odds.

Читать полностью…If someone pays you extra for anything they purchase from you (whether through OLX, Quikr, or any auctions, etc.), be very careful – you may be a victim of the “overpayment fraud”!
Under this mechanism, a generous overpayment is made to the victim typically using a fake cheque. But before the cheque has been cleared by a bank and the victim discovers that the cheque has bounced, the scammer will request to have the difference refunded, usually through an online banking transfer, pre-loaded money card, or a wire transfer such as Western Union. And, victims lose the money they send along with the item itself!
Instead, insist for a fresh cheque with the correct amount, or, wait for the cheque to clear first, and only then initiate any transfer for a refund!

Stand up against #MedicalScams
This week, we are covering various scams rampant in the medical sector in India. One such scam is ‘sink test’. In the so-called ‘sink test’, the doctor orders lab tests despite not suspecting any medical problems. Only a few of the tests are performed, and the extra blood collected is dumped in the sink. Fabricated results are given in the normal range for all tests that were not performed. The patient pays a large sum, which is shared by the referring doctor and the pathologist.
What to do: check the symptoms you exhibit with the symptoms of the tests being prescribed. Also, consult another doctor before proceeding with very expensive tests.

This week, we are covering various scams rampant in the medical sector in India. One such scam is ‘irrational drug prescribing’. This means that doctors unnecessarily prescribe medicines and drugs to patients in turn for certain benefits from pharma companies, such as fully paid foreign trips, jewellery, etc.
What to do: you can take a 2nd opinion from another doctor. Also, study the compounds in the prescribed medicine, and see if there are any other medicines with similar chemical composition, which are cheaper, and ask your doctor if you can take those instead!

On the other hand, millions of Indians go to sleep hungry, and instead of throwing extra food, here’s how you can make it reach the hungry – call ‘Feeding India’ on 098711 78810. It has a 24/7 helpline that people can call on when they want to donate food. It also has an app on Google Playstore. It will collect all the extra food from individuals, weddings, restaurants, corporate offices, etc. and gives it to people who really need it. Do your bit, and #MakeADifference

There are millions of homeless children who have been separated from their families because of kidnapping, child trafficking or just because they ran away from their homes, and have no way to go back. Here’s how you can help – use the ‘Helping Faceless’ app to click their pictures and upload them. Using face recognition software, the app matches the photos of street children clicked by users and uploaded to the app with those of lost kids that are present in their database. This database has been created with the help of missing children information collected from various resources like the police, NGOs, etc. In this way, the government and NGOs are able to locate the families and unite them. To help finance the free services offered by Gmail, Google has been scanning through what Gmail users were discussing and then showing ads connected to some of the topics. Someone writing about running, for instance, might see ads for Nike or Asics shoes. This is a practice that Google has embraced since the company introduced Gmail in 2004. This practice, however, has raised concerns among privacy watchdogs and creeped out some users, and rightly so. As a response, Google is now going to stop reading your Gmail in search of opportunities to sell ads. Google still plans to show ads within Gmail. But instead of scanning through email content, the company's software will rely on other signals to determine which ads are most likely to appeal to each of its 1.2 billion Gmail users.

You have only two days left to link your Aadhaar with PAN. The voluntary compliance period for linking the two crucial cards, a move introduced in this year's budget, ends on Friday. From Saturday, it will become mandatory to quote Aadhaar for PAN and income tax returns. Even if you don’t have taxable income and you don't file income tax return but possess both PAN and Aadhaar then linking the two is compulsory otherwise your PAN will be liable to become invalid.
Here’s how to link it: The IT department has made provision for assesssees to link their PAN to Aadhaar on the efiling portal (https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/). Log in, go to the "Profile Settings" tab. A drop down menu will appear. Click on "Link Aadhaar", and fill in certain details. After submitting the Aadhaar details, a success message is displayed confirming the linking of Aadhaar with PAN.
According to government, Aadhaar-enabled biometric identification will help check instances of multiple PANs and also keep a tab on tax evaders.
