I guess Robinhood might have in their reserves actual shares and represent them by tokens. People could bid on the tokens however they want and trade them. With the expectation that after the IPO, robinhood will start allowing the tokens to be redeemed. Does that actually make sense?

This is the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) model. You need to have a legal owner for the shares by someone. I am not sure if a US broker can do this, because if they could, it would already been done in the past. Because that would need to have S-1 form (IPO) filled for the shares already if you are going to offer shares like this for public trading.

Does anyone know how the private equity tokens launched by Robinhood is going to work? I can’t find any details, just that they advertised openAI and SpaceX tokens available immediately. But would they be backed by actual equity? Since only Robinhood is trading those tokens, how is their price decided without arbitrage? Would you be able to redeem for actual stock when the companies eventually IPO? It doesn’t seem to make sense. Or are they just shitcoins called openAI and SpaceX?
