First of all, higher gas fees do not increase wstETH yield. The gas fees are burned. In case there are actually also higher tips on top of the base fee being paid these days, then this effect on the yield is still negligible.
Also, borrowing fees were spiking far above the wstETH yield, so looping this as you suggest would give you negative PNL.

I guess it was just people withdrawing from lending protocols to do whatever (selling?), and that’s what was spiking the rates. Thus not more demand, but less supply.

Be careful to account for
1) fees you pay for maintaining position on AAVE
2) Overall LTV you might get, and how it impacts your ROI (stables locked vs farmed funding, if LTV = 0.5 then you already divide ROI by 2)
3) Margins from Hyperliquid and aave are not connected ; if your ETH spikes you might get liquidated on aave and have to pay extra fees

It was an internal research piece we did from the exotics desk for clients in scandi region around 2018 - I don’t think it would be publicly available

It’s obvs a while back but the crux of it iirc is that REITs have pass-through convexity from the nature of danish mortgages restrike which means people have optionality to enter variable or re-fix (i think!) this has analogies to rates optionality which allows you to decompose the REIT market across the volatility surface (expiry, tenor)

I can only imply what the angle was (I was quant side) but suspect it’s a way of selling rates vols products to funds in the region as hedges or expressions of macro viewpoints on mortgage market

If your short goes against you, you get negative PNL from the perp, but you don’t get any positive PNL from your ETH collateral to counter that because you still owe the same amount of ETH debt to the lending protocols where you borrowed.

The problem is what collateral would you post in aave? In the case of USD collateral @juju1234534 is right as it makes no sense to post USD. The only thing you’d post would be some other alt that has lower funding on the perp - this is possible though maybe if you have a lot of alts as the liquidity is low on perps outside eth & btc. The idea being that even if ARB or OP has a higher perp yield that eth it might be hard to capture. I guess you’d expect the borrow on non eth alts to more down whilst eth borrow moves up to validate that
