Not defending Musk here but I'm not buying this "free speech absolutism" from Gab. Don't these people advocate for literal Christian blasphemy laws and a Christian theocratic state? Unless you can blaspheme Jesus on Gab, I don't see how he can make this claim. Maybe someone should test this out. Christianity has always been hostile to speech it didn't like, hence Galileo's torment. Christians used to put people to death for saying things against the faith and went to war with other Christians over theological differences. Where's the consistency here? Also pretty sure Gab removes "incitement to violence". Ye's post doesn't fit that standard but even Gab will remove violent threats.

The only way to go about this is to either drop your appeals to free speech in your own defense in the face of leftist censorship and then just make some kind of might is right argument of "I just want to censor my enemies too but I don't yet have the power to do so," (in which case, few normies will sympathize with your position) or take up a somewhat absolutist position on the matter (everyone can have their speech). (not including things like libel, violent threats, etc.)

Example here: if you're going to appeal to free speech in your own defense, then you'd have to allow these dragqueers their free speech to read stories to children. We know most Christians like the Gab folks want to stop this, so how is "absolute free speech" even a standard they can meet consistently? These dragfreaks will appeal to "free speech" just the same. Also I don't see how he can call Musk a "liberal" after he engaged in an illiberal policy of censorship but then appeal to free speech absolutism (actual liberal position). This is why we need to rigorously define our terms. People misuse these terms all the time and apply them inconsistently. American conservatives for example will call Democrats "liberals" and then condemn them for not supporting free speech (liberal policy) and gun rights (liberal policy). So it's actually the Dems who are anti-liberal on those two issues. This is also why a generic "anti-liberal" philosophy is insufficient and will put you on the same team as the globalists & communists who want to confiscate your property, censor your speech, and take away your guns.

I don't think anyone actually believes in "free speech absolutism". Libel and slander laws and other public nuisance laws would have to be done away with also, if that were the standard. I don't think you can just scream into a bullhorn outside your neighbour's house at 5am with no consequences or plaster posters of someone's face all over a town claiming that person is a pedophile when they're not. Even many who advocate rescinding hate speech and holo denial laws will themselves censor opponents if they got the power, so nobody actually has an absolutist standard here. Everyone is just appealing to this principle tactically to defend their own speech against opponents but would take away their opponent's speech if they could.
