Another point is that corporations can be held accountable through the courts. Yes they are powerful and can corrupt the legal process via bribery, but many big companies have been sued and lost big settlements. Governments on the other hand are far less accontable to the public for its overreach, corruption, violence, etc., especially in a state where there are no separation of powers. The state can get away with mass murder (USSR, Mao's China) with nobody being held accountable, something a corporation probably couldn't get away with unless they completely buy off the judiciary which is possible but unlikely. That's not a defense of corps, it's just a point that they're less dangerous to your life than totalitarian states because they don't have a monopoly on the use of force. The CIA & KGB can go around assassinating people at will, but Amazon or Facebook probably couldn't do that without getting caught and prosecuted.
