Zelensky is kind of a dork in a lot of ways but he didn't go to Washington in bad faith. He genuinely went to hear out Trump's proposal, but it was not a serious one. Ambushing him deliberately in that press scrum was dishonorable. Looks like a purposeful set-up to cut Ukraine loose altogether: "either sign this useless deal that guarantees you nothing or you're the bad guy who wants more war!"
All these Con Inc slop influencers creaming their pants over this set-up is pretty repugnant. All they care about is glazing Trump for superchats.
Glazing any leader like that is unhealthy. I like Trump and most of his domestic policies, but this level of obsequious servitude is cult-like. No politician should be worshipped.

He's not giving Ukraine a fair hearing at the table here, he's trying to strong-arm them into accepting an unfavourable deal that will guarantee them nothing in the future and give Russia full control of the situation.
Lots of Americans think that is cool because they don't care about the fate of other Europeans, but they would not feel the same way if the shoe were on the other foot.

So this cuck wants unlimited support to a Jewish country with a massive military advantage over its adversaries, but wants to cut loose a European Christian country facing a much larger foe.

Zelensky's demands are reasonable:

Remember, that the US under Clinton PRESSURED Ukraine to give up their nukes in 1994, then promised to provide security in the case of a Russian invasion. It was called the Budapest Memorandum. Russia also signed that agreement then broke it in 2014.
Now the US is reneging on that deal and demanding a bunch of minerals for nothing in return, giving Putin a free hand to commit future aggression.
Putin's demands are patently unreasonable:
> No NATO on my border (except Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania!!!)
> Demilitarization of Ukraine (no army/national defenses for Ukraine!)
> Denazification (aka De-Ukrainianization & Re-Russification of the country!!)
> Who knows what else
He won't budge on any of those.
All of this is absurd and will turn Ukraine into a defenseless satellite state of Russia.

The big issue is this: Trump is offering Ukraine nothing in exchange for 500 mil in minerals.
They could sign this deal and Putin could launch attacks deeper into Ukraine tomorrow, and Trump will do nothing to stop it and still demand the minerals.
None of this was well-thought out.

Putin claimed he had to invade Ukraine to stop a "genocide" in the Donbass.
Reality: only 25 civilians on both sides died in 2021. The conflict had been steadily declining since 2014 and was nearly finished.
This was the "genocide" Putin has sent tens of thousands of Russians to their deaths to stop.

I haven't watched the circus in the White House today, but I will say this as a general observation:
It is curious how the same people who for years were hating on Zelensky (and European politicians) for being a "puppet" for US power are now hating on Zelensky (and European politicians) for NOT being an obedient puppet for US power.
(I will comment on today's spectacle specifically when I can be bothered to watch it.)

Trump is trying too hard to be a "mafia boss tough guy" to show off to his followers.

This Republican "make friends with Russia to peel it away from China" gambit will not work. The Russians have deep-seated Soviet-era antipathy towards the West, particularly the US, and will never put all their cards into an alliance with the US. China is their more reliable partner.
The Americans are being played by Russia here. Putin's long-game is squeezing the Americans out of NATO itself (something Trump has hinted at), so that Putin can confront a much weaker alliance later.
Yet he wants that kind of red carpet treatment for Putin doesn't he?

I'm skeptical about this US-Ukraine minerals deal. Trump hasn't guaranteed any security for Ukraine. Simply sending them the same weapons they've already been sending is not nearly enough.
Only US troops in Ukraine, nukes or NATO membership can stop the bloodshed. Anything less and Putin continues his exterminationist policies against White Europeans!
