Trump knows he only has leverage on Zelensky so he is completely sidestepping pressure on Putin. Hence why it's so easy for the Dem side to paint him as a Putin puppet.
Looks like he will try to force Zelensky to concede to Putin's terms.
Without security guarantees the Ukrainians will be skeptical of any Trump deal that looks more like an attempt to "get the money back" as opposed to helping Ukraine ward off an invader.
If Trump were serious about peace he'll have to start putting more pressure on Putin to give something up instead of giving him a free ride.
Zelensky also needs to drop the pure defiance and come to the table. Ukraine will most likely have to give up the territories in the East otherwise the war will drag on for another decade.
Putin is recruiting cannon fodder from North Korea now. He's willing to throw untold numbers of meat sacks into the fight to hold the gains he's made. Evil shit but the fucker has the power to keep this going for a long time.
Zelensky isn't doing himself any favours with this kind of rhetoric - even though he just meant that the negotiations for peace are in very early stages.
The spinsters will simply use this headline to attack him as an unwilling partner for peace.
My issue with the MAGA stance is that they're not putting analogous pressure on Russia to come to the table - it's be a one-sided campaign to get Zelensky to concede most of Putin's positions, in exchange for vague security assurances that haven't been put to paper.
It's a delicate situation but Zelensky needs to drop this "no peace" stuff - yes insist on security guarantees but at least be more willing to get into these conversations.

Imagine this level of cuckoldry. They want to withhold aid to a Christian country to give it to a Jewish one.
And it's not true: Israel is not facing an existential threat, Ukraine is.
NATO expansion was fully justified. A minority of American officials were skeptical of it because they were fearful of the Russian response, but who knows how many conflicts there would have been if those countries hadn't joined NATO while Russia was weak in the 1990s.
If the USSR hadn't collapsed all those countries would still be under Soviet occupation. If Russia were strong in the 90s, none of those countries would have obtained real independence, and if they had tried, Russian aggression would have likely followed as we saw at various points of the Eastern Bloc with Soviet invasions of Czechoslovakia and Hungary after uprisings against communist rule.
After the collapse of the USSR, it was only a matter of time before Russia rebuilt its army and strength and started to assert itself again as a regional hegemon. That has been Putin's grand project: rearming and strengthening Russia and asserting its might around the world. He has said on many occasions that he doesn't respect smaller neighbouring countries and views them as vassals.
This is why Eastern Europe rushed into NATO while they had the chance. Ukraine was left out for some reason and the result is a brutal Russian invasion in 2022.
This sentiment was expressed clearly by Estonia's former president in 1996:
"Estonia's President Lennart Meri, has again called for a rapid integration of the Baltic states into NATO's security structure, despite Russian objections. Meri told a conference in the Germany city of Munich at the weekend that all three Baltic states need the feeling of security that NATO membership offers. He said Russia's aggressive policy in Chechnya gave reason to doubt that permanent stability would develop in Russia in the near future. 'Russia is probably the last colonial superpower,' Meri said. 'That is why the Baltic states are so interested in joining NATO.'"

The Western right needs to de-couple itself from the Kremlin, which is attempting to seduce them with money, mail order brides and favorable press coverage.
All of these opportunists totally ignore how the Kremlin has schemed to shove migrant hordes at both Poland and Finland, as well as dumping Central Asians into Ukraine, and filled their own country up with Muslims. I finally forced myself to sit through the entire Zelensky, Trump, Vance encounter.
First of all, Zelensky had a very hostile audience. Trump hates Z for personal reasons. Trump and Vance have heads full of Russia bro lies: the Maidan coup, the proxy war, etc. Of course, if they really believe this, wouldn't the US owe Ukraine and Russia war reparations? Those Russia bro memes were bound to crash into reality soon enough.
Trump has assembled a court of sycophants to cater to his narcissism, pettiness, and grudges. The courtier journalist (said to be the boyfriend of Zigger nitwit Marjorie Taylor Greene) who asked Zelensky about his clothes was particularly despicable.
That said, Zelensky should have expected all of this, and instead he went in there thinking that he would be fawned over like he was by the Democrats and their media. He surely was aware that Trump is wedded to exculpating Putin from blame. Yet he lost his cool about that. He also had no control over his face or body language. It was actually somewhat charming. I'd love to play poker against him, since he'd be easy to beat. Is Zelensky somewhat autistic?
Vance scolding him like an ungrateful child was the grossest sort of pandering to MAGA tards, but they all believe fantastic lies about Ukraine, and again, Zelensky should have known that going in.
If Zelensky was half the scheming Jew that he is made out to be, he would have recognized that Trump's greatest weakness is his vanity, and he would have flattered him and played to his courtiers. But he obviously regards Trump with contempt and couldn't control himself.
Zelensky failed at his mission. You don't have to respect foreign leaders to negotiate with them. Frankly, regarding them with contempt should make it easier to negotiate, if you keep your feelings in check.
This also made Trump and Vance look bad. Of course, the establishment and media aren't exactly objective about them and were looking for any excuse to spazz out. I am willing to cut Trump a lot of slack, but even I have found his foreign policy pronouncements since the election to be bizarre, erratic, and borderline mad. If Trump were serious, he would wish to project strength and honor, not act like a whimsical, greedy, power-mad mob boss. The blowup with Zelensky just feeds into an already well-established narrative that Trump's foreign policy is erratic and perhaps even insane. Trump never should have sat Zelensky down in front of the press if he was not absolutely sure the two men were on the same page.
The "anti-imperialist" Western Left has always been a tool of the Soviet Union. Lenin was the first FAKE "anti-imperialist". Their "anti-imperialism" ended where the USSR's foreign policy began. Same story today.
Most of these figures continue to demonstrate extreme loyalty to the Kremlin, Beijing and the larger Eastern powers who pay them.

If Americans don't want to pay for Ukraine's security, then stop blocking their entry into the alliance, which will prevent future Russian aggression.
