Si è vivi e saper dire o urlare: «No!»

💟

I am not looking for a path to be left alone, and even if I knew it, I would never teach it.
It is wonderful to let ourselves be disturbed by life, by others, and at the same time not be overwhelmed by them.
It is not a question of being unperturbed, but unperturbed by the disturbance, welcoming every visitor, and we know that the most uncomfortable and troublesome ones have great gifts in hidden pockets.
And welcoming is not accepting, one can welcome the unacceptable, and then one can more effectively rebel, push away, run away, denounce, when necessary.
One is alive and being able to say or shout:
“No!" is one of the most honourable human faculties.

There is a beautiful word in the Buddha's writings: nibbidā.
It means "serene disenchantment".
Usually, we are serene when we are enchanted, deluded, and when we wake up, we become disenchanted, we become bitter, cynical, distrustful. But in this word there is an invitation which, as in all the Buddha's words, is also a path and a vision.
Disenchantment can be serene because the enchanting reality awaits us, the profound serenity
of surrendering to and not being surrendered by.
Everything flows and I can surrender to the flow, instead of constantly struggling with the current, I can enter the current, be part of it.

❤️"UN ALTRO CANALE DI NOTIZIE? Ma dài… A me basta vivere bene: sole, mare, una buona pasta.

Train yourself to accept your fear

The moment you try to change something, anything, you destroy it, and you destroy its beauty.
Fear has a beauty of its own... a delicacy and a sensitivity all its own.
The word is negative, but the feeling itself is beyond positive.
Only living processes can be afraid; a dead thing has none; therefore, fear is part of being alive, it implies being delicate and fragile.
Therefore, give it space, allow fear to exist.
Shake when it envelops you, let it shake your foundations; and enjoy it, consider it a profound shaking experience.
And remember: don't take any attitude... in fact, don't even call it 'fear'.
The moment you call it that, you have assumed an attitude; you have already condemned it, you have already established that it is something wrong, something that should not exist.
You are already on edge, you are already running away, you are running for your life!
In an extremely subtle way, you have already broken all contact with that emotion; you have broken all connection between you and what is happening to you.
So, it is important not to call it fear.
To stop attributing a name to what is happening is something essential.
Just observe the feeling you have, how what is happening presents itself to you.
Give it space, allow it to exist and don't give it any label: remain ignorant.
Ignorance is an incredibly meditative condition of being.
Insist on being ignorant, and do not allow the mind to manipulate.
Don't allow it to use language, to impose words, labels and categories, because this implies a whole process: one thing is associated with another, and this has no end, it is an unstoppable motion.
Simply observe: do not call what happens to you 'fear'.
Let fear envelop you, become fear and tremble:
it is something beautiful.

All the things you don’t like about yourself might be exactly the things that someone will love about you.
Life is like a book you don’t realise you’re writing.
Every comma, every sentence, every letter is part of who you are.
Your story has a meaning that only the person truly meant for you will be able to read.
The right person won’t stop at the cover.
They’ll understand the sentences written in your language, because it’s those words that make you unique.
And the more pages your story has, the richer it will be.
The mistakes you’d like to erase are precisely what give your story its humanity.
The stumbles that show you’ve lived, faltered and learnt.
In the end, it’s not about being perfect; it’s about becoming whole, not about erasing every mistake.
Because one day, someone will love you, not in spite of your story, but precisely because of it.

You cope perfectly well on your own and always manage things by yourself when others are wasting time.
You set everything alight if life starts to fall apart and you walk away without asking permission.
You’ve learnt something I quite like: if you’re not happy somewhere, you just pick up and leave.
You study, travel, read, take notes – happiness is a very serious matter for you; if you carry on like this, no one will ever take advantage of you.
I mean, no one will ever take you away from yourself.

These things scare me a lot, this sea that with relentless naturalness spreads and erases everything, because I don't know how to hold it back.
It scares me that a person who was so present in my life, with whom I shared so much, at a certain point disappears.
As if it were a comet that crossed our lives, you were used to seeing it, and then it disappears behind the horizon.
Then the trail remains, you see it for a while, and then not even that anymore.
And life goes on as if it never existed, that is, our life.
And no one ever thinks about the life of the comet, about what happens to it after it has passed.

What is meant to find you will find you.
Life brings certain people into your path when you’re ready.
Not necessarily when you’ve planned it, but always when you need them most.
You never meet someone truly important by chance.
Your heart recognises them long before your eyes do.
The people destined to be part of your life have always, in some way, been part of your destiny.
Long before you knew their name, your soul was already aware of their presence.

Everything you love will one day come to an end.
People, moments, even yourself.
I know it hurts to read this.
But stay with me for a moment, because here’s the most important thing.
It is precisely because it ends that it has value.
A sunset is beautiful because it lasts just a few minutes.
A hug matters because one day it will be gone.
The Stoics called it impermanence, and it wasn’t sadness.
It was the secret to truly loving.
Don’t put off that hug.
Don’t put off saying ‘I love you’.
Everything is precious precisely because everything comes to an end.

Every addiction begins in the same way – not with pleasure, but with pain.
With a moment when life became too noisy, too intense, too hard to bear, and something offered relief.
A pause button, a little death that felt like peace, and the mind remembered – it remembered that there is a way out.
An escape route from the unbearable weight of being yourself.
But here’s what nobody tells you.
Escape never works.

BELLISSIMA DA LEGGERE

Un ragazzo chiese, a sua madre:

“Mamma, posso andare a trovare un mio amico in ospedale?
E molto malato.

Mamma:
“Certo ma che cos'ha”?

Il ragazzo guardò il pavimento:
“Un tumore al cervello”.

La madre rispose totalmente scioccata:
“Cosa ci vai a fare? Vuoi vederlo morire”?

"Mamma è terribile, è morto davanti a me.”
La madre rispose furiosa:
“Sei contento adesso?

A BEAUTIFUL STORY TO READ

A boy asked his mother:

“Mum, can I go and visit a friend of mine in hospital?
He’s very ill.

Mum:
“Of course, but what’s wrong with him?”

The boy looked down at the floor:
“He’s got a brain tumour.”

His mother replied, completely shocked:
“What are you going there for? Do you want to watch him die?”

The boy turned and walked away.
Hours later, the boy returned, utterly sad and with tears in his eyes.
“Mum, it’s terrible – he died right in front of me.”
His mother replied furiously:
“Are you happy now?
Was there any point in you visiting him?”

The boy shed one last tear, accompanied by a smile.
Very much so – I got there in time.
He smiled at me and said, ‘I knew you’d come.’

🥀🥀🥀

Sometimes, when I teach compassion practices, I ask my students to choose a person they see regularly but with whom they have no personal involvement.
After they have called this person to mind, I invite them to make these considerations:
"What does he/she need?"
"What is she afraid of?",
"What is life like for her?".
Vicki came to me after one of these meditations to tell me that a wonderful thing had happened since she had begun to engage in that practice.
Seeing colleagues at work, neighbours walking their dogs, shop assistants in shops, she said in her mind:
"You are real. You are real.
Instead of seeing them as a mere backdrop to his life, he realised that they came to life in his eyes.
He noticed a spark of curiosity in their expression, a generous smile, an anxious gnashing of teeth, a disappointed and resigned curve of the shoulders, the pain of a downcast gaze.
If he stayed a moment longer, he could also feel their shyness, their embarrassment, their fear.
Vicki told me: "The more real they are, the more I myself feel real, warm, alive.
I feel closeness in simply being human together.
No matter who they are...
I feel I can accept them as part of my world".
When we stop and see others as real, we discover the hidden bond that exists between all beings.

There’s a certain sort of person that nobody ever really notices.
They’re the ones who smile the most, but behind that smile they hide deep scars.
The ones who always say, ‘I’m fine’.
Even when, deep down, they’re falling apart.
They never ask for help.
Because they don’t want to be a bother.
And perhaps because they’ve convinced themselves that no one is really willing to listen to them.
No one ever stops to ask how they’re doing.
Because it’s easier to believe the mask they wear every day.
In reality, these people don’t need grand gestures.
They just need someone to look them in the eye and see beyond appearances.
Someone who notices the burden they’re carrying and the strain of having to be strong for everyone else.
Because behind the people who love us most, there’s often a heart beating alone in silence.
Just waiting for someone to really listen to it.

Learn not to meddle in other people’s lives.
Mind your own business.
Don’t be so presumptuous as to think you’re better than others or that you’re in a position to judge them.
Because the greatest disappointments in this world always stem from being too sure of oneself, always convinced that you’re a cut above everyone else.
Be humble, and only then will you truly be great.

I want to live my next life in reverse.
You start off dead, so you can get that out of the way straight away.
Then you’re discharged from a care home and with every passing day you feel better and better.
Until one fine day they kick you out because you’re too fit.
Then, of course, you go to collect your pension, and on your first day at work they give you a lovely gold watch and throw you a big party.
And you work for 40 years until you’re young enough to enjoy your retirement, throwing parties, drinking, enjoying light-hearted romance, until you’re finally ready for secondary school.
Then you go to primary school, you become more and more like a child, you play, you get up to mischief, you have no responsibilities and you’re just a child. Until you finally approach birth and spend the last nine months floating in a luxury spa
and you wake up every day in an ever-spacious room until you disappear in an orgasm.

When you’re driving at night, your headlights only illuminate 50, perhaps 100 metres ahead of you.
Beyond that light, it’s pitch black.
And yet you don’t stop.
You don’t wait for the whole road to be lit up before setting off.
You trust those 100 metres, and you carry on.
And as you move forward, the light moves with you.
Always 100 metres, always enough.
That’s how life works.
You don’t need to see the whole road.
You don’t need to know in advance how it will end.
You just need to see the next step.
And yet we spend years stuck in the car park, waiting for someone to switch on all the lights before we set off, but that moment never comes.
Life doesn’t show you the whole path.
It reveals it to you as you walk.
Trust your 100 metres.

Una lettera per il Paradiso ❤️
West Lothian, Scozia.

Avrebbe potuto archiviarla.

A letter to Heaven ❤️
West Lothian, Scotland.

James Hyndman was 28 when he passed away.
He left behind his partner, Teri, and two young children: Nieve and Jase.
Ever since that day, every year, the family has continued to celebrate his birthday in the same way: by writing him cards.

When Jase was 7, he wrote his card with all his heart.
On the envelope, he wrote the address that made the most sense to him:
“Dear Postman, can you take this to heaven for my dad’s birthday?
Thank you.”
He posted it. Without expecting a reply.

But the letter arrived at the Royal Mail office in Bathgate.
It was read by Sean Milligan, the deputy manager. He could have filed it away.
Instead, he took some letterhead paper and a pen, and wrote back to Jase.

He wrote to him saying that the letter had reached its destination, having carefully avoided ‘stars and other galactic objects’ on the way to heaven.
And he promised him one thing: the Royal Mail would continue to do everything it could to deliver the post to his dad.

When Teri posted the exchange online, millions of people were moved. 200,000 shares.
The Royal Mail simply said:
we’re proud that one of our employees took the time to comfort a child.

For Jase, it wasn’t proof that letters reach heaven.
It was proof that someone, here on earth, had decided to reply.

And sometimes, that’s exactly what saves us.

You need to learn to choose your thoughts in the same way you choose your clothes every day.
There you go – that’s a power you can cultivate.
If you’re so keen on coming here to take control of your life, work on your mind.
It’s the only thing you need to control.
If you can’t master your thoughts, you’ll be in trouble forever.

I’m trying!

Well, that’s exactly the problem.
Stop trying, just give in.
Go out into the garden and sit there.
And quiet your mind, then see what happens.
Why don’t you just let it happen?
