Watch out for that. I have 2 friends who were set up, railroaded in court, and then served prison time as well as being labeled a felon and forced to register when they got out, and 1 friend murdered - all because they got too good at spreadin the truth. I have several other friends who had to disappear to avoid the same fate

At a minimum, I do recommend this. Pixel device with degoogled OS such as Lineage/Calyx/Graphene. Any of those is far better than whatever comes with the phone you have now. There are many options, from DIY to off-the-shelf. Prices vary. My current daily driver phone is a Pixel 5 with degoogled OS, out of pocket was about $200. It's not 'too expensive'.

SMS is not secure or private at all, whatsoever. Telegram is 'good', Signal is better, and Session is even better yet for privacy, although sacrificing utility/reliability. Face-to-face is the ultimate as long as you do not have electronic devices within earshot. Keep looking folks, the times are changing. AI on your devices is a huge threat, with possibility to collect screenshots of your 'private/secure' chat applications, depending on your OS capability, which grows with every update. :-/
