Once in my twenties I naturally - and rapidly - grew out of the notion of equality. I think this is true for many people. Reality intervenes on our ideals and we become more realistic. Our own drives intervene and we become more pragmatic. Maturity, the simple process of witnessing people, intervenes, and we become less blindly optimistic.

I am once again casting the net for submissions to Toadstool Magazine!
We are planning for a new issue to be released in early December, a bumper issue that will be a good bit larger than the last ones. Due to missing a couple of scheduled issues over the Summer and Autumn, this issue will not be restricted by seasonal themes - anything goes!
We are looking for short stories, poems, art, articles/reviews, recipes, crafting instructions, or whatever else you can dream up!
Themes: fairytales, fantasy, GNOMES, whimsy, woodland critter stories… anything that roughly fits the bill is welcome. Send it to the address below!
Word limit on stories is about 6k words - I’ll take longer stories but they better be really, really good to be worth so much real estate in the magazine 😉

It was this exact time - the middle of October - 10 years ago, that I decided to start a blog of my own. That idea quickly changed to creating a vlog, a YouTube channel.
Over the next 10 weeks I designed the aesthetic and created the various elements (font, logo, key sound effects, lightning code, rain code, intro video, outro video) of Millennial Woes. I didn't really know what I was doing, yet I knew exactly what to do - so I did it.
At the time I assumed it was just another project, another indulgence, that like so many before it, would go nowhere. I speculated that the channel would peak at about 200 subscribers and the project would only endure for about 20 videos. In fact I made over 100 videos in the first month alone, and the project would transform my situation out of recognition and define my life.
Before mp3, the absence of it meant that you got to enjoy the experience of going to record shops, finding the thing you wanted or even an album you didn’t know you wanted, holding a physical thing in your hands and buying it and reading the inlay booklet, and taking it around to a friend’s house. If you didn’t have the physical object, you couldn’t hear the music; this was limiting and sometimes annoying when an appetite could not be immediately sated, but on the other hand, it really did make you appreciate the music more.

Always remember that your governments can deport and expel foreign criminals who harm Europeans but choose not to.

It is with an extremely heavy heart that I share the news I’m about to share with you all.
Jeff Winston, director and founder of the White Art Collective, passed away unexpectedly on October 6th 2023.
There are no words to describe the loss that I feel for myself, our 3 month old daughter, and Jeff’s family. He was the love of my life, my best friend, and an incredible father. He inspired me artistically, and showed me what it really means to love and to be loved unconditionally. He was truly one of the good ones.
Although we ask that you please respect the privacy of our family, we greatly appreciate all prayers and support during this difficult time.

How is it “chaos” for a candidate to come along who shakes things up a bit? Isn’t that exactly what politics is supposed to be? And isn’t Brexit an example of the same? But Hislop was vehemently opposed to both Brexit and Trump. What to many people is desperately needed change, to him is “chaos”. I am no populist either, and I don’t exactly trust “the people”, but we cannot simply ride roughshod over the public, condemning their grievances as irrational, crazy or “chaos”.

For a while they tried talking about “British values”, and used this to assert that migrants embody these values better than a lot of natives do. But there were problems with this. Nobody could define what these “British values” were. Then it became increasingly difficult to reconcile this requirement with multiculturalism; you can’t celebrate diversity while requiring people to adopt any particular values.
Qualifying for an Identity
The GAE is in (terminal) decline. Everyone can see it. The (proxy) war in Ukraine has proven that America's military power is far less than advertised, and that Russia is far stronger than the Western propaganda ascertained. The balance of power has indeed shifted and Israel's golem, the US, is now far from being the unquestionable hegemon. This is why the conflict in Palestine has erupted now (accepting the usual round of Israeli provocations and attacks). It is a crucial stress test for the GAE. The US has based most of its post-cold-war power-plays on supporting the Zionist project and in extirpating its enemies. Now it might be facing the existential test, just as its powers (both internal and external) are waning.

In retrospect, the 2000s existed to construct the smartphone, everything else being on hold until that was achieved. Culturally, the decade was a stop-gap - empty, hollow and bland.

The new Palestinian-Jewish conflict requires that our movement both walk and chew gum at the same time: namely, (1) to expose Jewish power, hypocrisy, and bloodlust and (2) to mount a vigorous case against taking in Palestinian refugees.
If our governments are committed to the idea that the Palestinians are terrorists who deserve punishment for their crimes, we can't allow them to welcome these people into our midst.
Indeed, we should be using pro-Palestinian demonstrations in white countries to make a case for repatriating Muslims who are already among us.
Hislop never wonders whether Trump, who was expressly against taking his country to war and resisted strident calls to do so, might have actually been preferable to the warmonger who preceded him, the warmonger who opposed him, and the warmonger who replaced him.

Much as an appetite grows with the feeding, a belief grows with the voicing of it. Perhaps it would be more true to say that the behaviours attendant around a belief become strengthened when one claims to hold it. In other words, people might only claim to believe in equality because of the social benefits, but eventually, if they keep claiming to believe, they will be behaviourally indistinguishable from someone who really does believe. Their entire way of presenting themselves and relating to other people, and perhaps even of conceiving of themselves in the world, will be that of someone who genuinely thinks equality is real. At that point, wishful thinking has entirely subordinated rational thought and become, as far as that person is concerned, reality.
