Davies is convinced that society is on the verge of abolishing gay rights. The more gays are tolerated, accepted and even celebrated, the more paranoid he becomes that it could all reverse at any moment.

I can forgive a lot of hopeful thinking about multiculturalism early on, because while the numbers were tiny it would have been easy to imagine that “we’ll find a way to rub along together”. Harrison would have felt this pressure quite acutely, since he was both from the “narrow-minded” working-class (and very aware of their mentality) and enmeshed in the “enlightened” upper-middle-class milieu of media and art.

Realising the dire situation, they called upon their best hope - the man who had revived it once before - and gave him carte blanche to work his magic again.

The text dwells on his father’s situation. This is a liberal writer trying to reach back to his roots, trying to be at one again with the father from whom he feels separated by his education. He is desperate to understand, but also desperate not to agree.

Everyone discriminates all the time, in every aspect of life. However, hate speech law imposes an artificial morality on to everyday people, one that they demonstrably do not believe in. It also prevents them from making sincere and just complaints about the way their society is going. (That is its actual purpose.)

We get the first indication that racial change brings cultural change, and sometimes of a negative sort. The people on Tempest Road have changed, and this has made the values change, as civic nationalists fondly imagined it wouldn’t.

Boomerism will no longer be the political mainstream within a decade.
The downside of this is that an even more aggressively anti-white left will emerge. The left will shift from preaching universalist egalitarian utopia to middle class white liberals to sadistic revenge fantasies for non-whites, trannies, and other "victim" groups.
The upside is that the phoney right will be replaced with a genuine right. Civic nationalism, neoconservativism, and Zionism will no longer be part of the right. The reality of race and the necessity for white interests will be embraced.
This will bring about more chaotic times, but it will break us out of the political stasis we're currently stuck in. Overall, this is a positive development. It will allow for real political change rather than slow decline under the status quo.
(PS I'm not advocating "accelerationism". Positive change is not contingent on things getting worse, but how we respond to the reality of the changes which are to come.)
We are not discussing the various abstract results of mass immigration, but instead a very human and humble thing: the fact of an old man feeling alienated on his own street, feeling swamped with the foreign and the hostile, feeling forgotten by his society and neglected by his government, and spending his final four years in confusion, isolation and worry.

I am not attempting to paint Harrison as a “racist” or a “closet xenophobe”; I believe he is a liberal and a committed one. However, I do believe that, were he more honest with himself, he probably would have become anti-immigration. If anything, I am criticising him for not making this transition.

Progressives have proudly said that the general public do not have the intellect of experts and therefore should not try to work things out for themselves (eg. covid) and should be prevented from finding politically controversial material online since they lack the intellect to handle it.

Bad Wolf was promptly acquired by global conglomerate Sony, perhaps making profit less important. Then came the announcement of whom Davies had cast as the Doctor: a flamboyant gay Black man, Ncuti Gatwa. Finally, at long last, after sixty racist years, the Doctor would be played by a man of colour! And a massively gay one at that!

This era had the first gay (lesbian) companion, played by Pearl Mackie. And here we get a surprising chance to show why this content is bad for children. Mackie recently disclosed that playing the role made her realise she herself is bisexual. She was 29 at this point. She got all the way to 29 without making this all-important realisation about herself. Having made it, she is now in a lesbian marriage. If an adult woman can be swayed like this, what about children and adolescents?

It is not only for aesthetic reasons that one gives “proper emphasis on thins and thicks” in one’s handwriting, nor is it done merely to impress other people. It is to uphold the cultural infrastructure by which “proper” emphasis is decreed. If we do not have that infrastructure, no standards can be decreed, and then how will we know what is “proper”?

I do believe that simplicity is a virtue. Everything in life - every product, service, design, piece of text, storyline, creative work - should be as simple as possible. The issue is in the word “possible”. It is always technically possible to make something simpler, but at a certain point it ceases being appropriate.
Unpleasant Minimalism
This short speech demonstrates Davies’ strengths and weaknesses. He is trying to be serious but all he can manage is mawkish sentimentality. He is trying to construct a logical argument but is utterly un-logical and must rely on the deus ex machina of humour. He is appealing to basic decency but actually pursuing rank libertine license. He cannot explain why this license should be given, except by making the emotional point that the lack of it feels bad, in the moment.
