Embrace the challenges, gentlemen. Trials are the sculptors of our character and, by the grace of God, builders of our faith.
“Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.” — James 1:2-4

We must embrace the profound truth that “One father” is truly worth more “than a hundred schoolmasters.” Here's to the powerful lessons of love, wisdom, and guidance that fathers impart and the extraordinary influence that good fathers have in shaping hearts and minds.

“When the modern city enshrines the temporariness of facelessness as a permanently utilitarian way of life, then something has gone dreadfully wrong.” — Roger Scruton; The Aesthetics of Architecture

"War must be, while we defend our lives against a destroyer who would devour all; but I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend."

J.C. Ryle on Affliction
“True Christians must not expect everything to be smooth on their journey to heaven…[God] has never promised that we shall have no affliction. He loves us too well to promise us that. By affliction he teaches many precious lessons which without it we should never learn. By affliction he shows us our emptiness and weakness, draws us to the throne of grace, purifies our affections, weans us from the world and makes us long for heaven. In the resurrection morn we shall thank God for every storm.”

If you've been a fan of this page for any length of time you've probably gathered that fatherhood is a huge part of the positive vision I seek to cast — "being there."
Current statistics estimated that over 18 million children in the United States are growing up in fatherless homes. This statistic alone is the fountainhead of numerous life-derailing issues.
For example, fatherlessness increases the risk of poverty fourfold, increases the risk of abusing drugs/alcohol and likelihood of incarceration, and drives up the risk of youth suicides. These statistics only scratch the surface, broken hearts aren't quantifiable.
For many fatherless children, nihilism and despair is the chosen path. But Christ speaks a better word. His finished work has reconciled fatherless sons to the Father, the Father in Whom all fatherhood gets its name. In Him the fatherless find mercy.

“Old Neptune, He's Roaring"
“‘That they may be seen of men;’ that they may be set upon a theatre for others to admire and canonize them. The oil of vainglory feeds their lamp. How many by the wind of popular breath have been blown to hell! Whom the devil cannot destroy by intemperance, he does by vainglory.”
— Thomas Watson
Adversity toughens manhood, and the characteristic of the good or the great man is not that he has been exempt from the evils of life, but that he has surmounted them.
