2024 Misano World Superbike FP2 Result: Bulega Leads Ducati One-Two
The afternoon's session was dominated by Nicolo Bulega with his teammate Alvaro Bautista joining him at the top at the end of the session. Remy Gardner continued his good form ahead of Andrea Iannone while Toprak Razgatlioglu spent the end of the session in the pits after a crash at turn sixteen with twenty minutes remaining in the session. Razgatlioglu's morning time remains the quickest lap of the day.

Maverick Viñales And Enea Bastianini To Join Tech3 As Team Reverts Back To KTM
In the long gap between Mugello and Assen, the MotoGP rider market is starting to move, no doubt helped by the fact that the logjam of the second Ducati factory seat has been removed with Marc Marquez taking that place for 2025. The next piece in the puzzle was what would happen with Enea Bastianini, now that he had lost his seat in the factory team.
KTM have now answered that question, with the surprise signing of both Bastianini and Maverick Viñales to the Tech3 team for 2025. The press release states that both riders are on "multi-year agreements", which seems to be their standard approach to new contracts. What that means precisely is unclear, but it is safe to assume these will be two-year contracts with options to extend.
The arrival of Bastianini had been widely expected after Mugello. At the test, rumors were circulating that the Italian would go to Tech3, preferring that over a switch to a satellite Ducati team.

OPINION: The Most Powerful Person In MotoGP
In 2009, Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta was facing catastrophe. The global financial crisis had caused Kawasaki to pull out of MotoGP, and for Honda to teeter on the brink of a decision to leave. The switch to 800cc had been disastrous, leading to processional races. Audiences were falling, teams were going out of business, grid sizes were falling.
Ezpeleta faced a problem, and that problem had a name. Shuhei Nakamoto, Vice President of HRC at the time, and de facto head of the MSMA. Dorna wanted cheaper, more competitive racing, with a wider appeal. Nakamoto wanted to win races and justify his spending on MotoGP to the board by pointing to the R&D that the sport facilitated, especially in the field of electronics. Nakamoto issued a firm 'Nyet' to any proposals for change.
By a process of browbeating, blackmail, and bribery, Ezpeleta managed to circumvent Nakamoto's veto. A return to 1000cc bikes and the introduction of the CRT class - highly tuned production engines with spec electronics in prototype chassis - helped fill the grid, and vastly improved the racing. In the run up to each new 5-year contract period, Ezpeleta managed to slip in conditions that would make racing cheaper, open up the grid, and attract three new factories to replace the two that left.
Divide and conquer
Ezpeleta's strategy was Machiavellian and brilliant. By taking the side of the teams, exploiting the ideas from inside Dorna and IRTA, and undermining Honda's dominance of the MSMA, he had found a way to topple Shuhei Nakamoto, MotoGP's most powerful person at the time. Ezpeleta was once again in charge of the sport, and had his hands more firmly on the tiller. The ship was on course, and though winds might blow it slightly to port or to starboard, the new format allowed the system to correct itself more quickly, and return to its original heading.

From a purely selfish media perspective, Ducati's announcement that they had chosen Marc Marquez to partner Pecco Bagnaia in the factory Ducati Lenovo team for the next two years was a little unfortunate. Wednesday morning after Mugello, at the start of a three-week break for MotoGP, meant that we as journalists were not going to get a chance to grill those involved in the decisions. Marc Marquez Signs Two-Year Deal To Race In factory Ducati Lenovo Team With Pecco Bagnaia
Ducati have today confirmed that Marc Marquez is to race in the factory Ducati Lenovo team alongside Pecco Bagnaia for the next two seasons. Marquez will replace Enea Bastianini, who looks set to join KTM and race in the Tech3 team.
The news is anything but a surprise. An announcement had been expected ever since Aprilia stole Ducati's thunder by announcing they had signed Jorge Martin for the next two seasons, at the end of the Monday test. With Martin and Marquez the only two candidates for the second factory Ducati seat, the departure of Martin could mean only one thing.
