Rare cases where I double position when price has doubled but was doing more research and really liked what I saw. Thesis below.
There are many instances of GPU rental marketplaces:
- Io.net (Raised $30m Series A from Hack/Multicoin - https://mpost.io/io-net-raises-25m-to-solve-the-ai-compute-shortage-by-building-the-internet-of-gpus/)
- NMT (146m mc [there's a bunch of locked tokens on nmt chain thats unaccounted for])
- GPU (128m mc)
- GNUS (63m mc)
- Blendr (49.7m mc)
Clearly a huge crowded market that everyone is trying to solve for the supposed excess amount of GPUs that's floating around to serve the demand for compute. Finding demand is one thing (remember to back companies that already have proper demand on their platform like NMT)
But what people don't realize is that there's a shortage in the top end GPU provisioning market right now. Akash posted a proposal on their governance forums dated 19 Jan that they're running out of high density GPUs, specifically the NVIDIA A100s (https://github.com/orgs/akash-network/discussions/448). This means that there's demand for these high end chips, mainly used to train LLMs which require large compute power.
TSMC also stated that they will take ~1.5 years to bring capacity up to be able to fulfill demand for the A100s/HA100s., which would continue to create a demand shortage into the mid 2025s. https://sourceability.com/post/tsmc-claims-ai-packaging-shortage-likely-through-2024-despite-expanding-capacity
What does this mean for $CETI?
CETI is not looking to be the marketplace for GPU compute. Rather, it looks to be the supplier for high quality GPU compute. My guess is that they will be targeting the highest quality GPU chips out there to provide compute for LLMs. The team has talked about Next Gen AI systems, AI LLMs, large scale AI.
Did a quick google search on what are the best GPUs to run large AI models and the answers usually fell into two categories:
- you can use RTXs/GTXs but you will face capacity issues during the training state
- A100s, P100s, V100s are best in class to accelerate your models.
So, my theory is CETI will be building an AI infrastructure composing of the highest quality GPUs and will be the supplier to all of the GPU networks out there that require higher quality GPUs. Nothing said from the team but one can guess at this end game they have.
