I watched a playthrough, it was shit. The dialogue was some reddit/joss whedon-esque mush. Even if there wasn't the diversity hires, the direction it took as a story was atrocious. The game is so laden with cutscenes. Started gripping enough with the ambush and a sort of revenge plot. By the end of the game, it seems like the player is the only person that remembered it ever happened.

The OG AC1 was okay and the Ezio trilogy was great. The next four games were rudderless in the grand contemporary plot but ranged from great (Black Flag and Rogue) to good (Unity and Syndicate). The nu-AC RPG grindfest lost me. I got through Origins. Its story and gameplay was mid but had some cool locations. Odyssey and Valhalla were grindier than ever. No one talks about Mirage and now Shadows is mired in controversy over its disrespectful plot choices and marketing

1. It takes time to make them so the decision to do this is a few years back.
2. They don’t sell. Look at Assassins Creed Japan (negro samurai, lesbians etc) and it’s a commercial disaster. Very few people play it.

Assassin's Creed were the first games that got me to read books. I carried one from the Ezio collection into every lesson at school because it didn't fit in my bag. All childhood IPs just get completely destroyed
