No, they had an author who wrote along side the games I think at some point after its success.

We had a small school library, and we used to hangout in there a lot for the first couple of years. Found the beginning of Ezio's story in there. I can take to things when I'm rather obsessed with them and nothing used to make me stop to rethink it lol. *Games are good, lore is good, give me that book*
