Mexico’s drastic court reform moves to Senate
A controversial judicial reform proposal in Mexico, which would require more than 7,000 judges and magistrates to be elected by popular vote, advanced in the Senate.
Critics argue the reform, pushed by President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, could weaken judicial independence and harm Mexico's business climate. Despite concerns, the reform has public support and passed the Senate commissions with a 25-12 vote.
The bill, already approved by the Chamber of Deputies, will face a final Senate vote on Wednesday.

Fuel tanker explosion kills 48 in central Nigeria
At least 48 people have died in a devastating accident in Nigeria's central Niger State after a fuel tanker collided with a lorry carrying passengers and cattle.
The collision, which occurred at around midnight on Sunday, caused a massive explosion that engulfed both vehicles.
The Niger State Emergency Management Agency dispatched response teams to the scene, with reports indicating that several other vehicles were also caught in the explosion.
