••• "Groupthink versus We Think," groupthink is a phenomenon that finds group members conforming to group values. As Dweck says, "everyone in a group starts thinking alike." Nobody disagrees with the leader. If you refer to the book, you will find a good example.Groupthink also happens when people are afraid of retribution for disagreeing with a/the “leader”
••• "The Praised Generation Hits the Workforce," examines the workplace readiness of people . Dweck questions whether individuals who grew up in the 1990s and early 2000s are prepared for working in an environment where their every move isn't praised. She expresses hope that "the right kind of praise can [inspire] them [to] hard work and greater hardiness." What about you? How do you see praise in relation to your work or other interactions?
••• "Are Negotiators Born or Made?" after much research, business experts Laura Kray and Michael Haselhuhn concluded that the best negotiators have a growth mindset. Those with a growth mindset are also more likely to create agreements that have both parties' best interest in mind.
••• Research indicates that many managers don't think employees can be trained to do better. They hire for talent, not an aptitude for training. Managers with this fixed mindset don't do much "developmental coaching," nor do they notice when their employees improve. They are also "far less likely to seek or accept critical feedback from their employees." However, studies have shown that managers can be taught the growth mindset. When mindsets change from fixed to growth, managers are more likely to coach poor performers and be more receptive to feedback.
••• "Are Leaders Born or Made?" Studies have shown that leaders are "made" through experiences and growth, yet Dweck cautions that "most managers and even CEOs become bosses, not leaders." She hypothesizes that people stop trying to improve after they learn the basics. She suggests companies that want to produce great leaders should value "the development of ability" over talent.
••• Section 13 of Chapter 5 discusses "Organizational Mindsets," which suggests that entire companies, not just individuals within the company, can have fixed or growth mindsets. People who work in companies with growth mindsets trust their employer and feel a strong sense of "empowerment, ownership, and commitment." Those who work in fixed-mindset companies report secretive, cutthroat environments.
The last section of Chapter 5, "Grow Your Mindset," offers tips for developing a growth mindset in the workplace, both from an employee's and employer's perspective.
Let’s us know how you’ve been reflecting with these points.
We would like to hear your take on these series.

In order to be successful in the business environment, it's important to have a wide breadth of skills including a strong foundation in marketing and sales. Entrepreneurs must also possess interpersonal skills that will allow them to interact effectively with clients as well as employees. Today we want to point out about one of the most important skills needed in business; effective communication. In any business setting, professionals rely on communication to coordinate efforts and accomplish organizational goals. Good Afternoon😁
Sharing with you one of our favorite quote from African Proverb.
"If you want to know the end, look at the beginning "
As humans, we are often more frustrated about the future, how things will turn out, instead of getting things done at the moment. The thing that makes us start our journey is not only the thing that will keep us going, but it is also what gets us to our goal.
Let’s take this allegory and personalize it with our routine. Whatever you bring to the start of the friendship, relationship, or career is what you will have to clean up in the end. You cannot begin a friendship, relationship, or career in dishonesty and deceit and hope to experience an honest end.
As much as we talk about the process, the beginning also matters, as the beginning is also part of the process. However, it is started that’s how it’s gonna end.
Have you ever noticed that how you started things in your personal development or career development affects how it’s gonna end?
Share with us your story.
••• The first section, "Enron and the Talent Mindset," is about the 2001 failure of Enron, an American energy, commodities, and services company. Author Carol S. Dweck says Enron failed because the company's leaders had a fixed mindset. Employees adopted that fixed mindset and began competing with each other for recognition and praise, which led to poor business practices and outright lying.
••• The second section of Chapter 5, "Organizations That Grow," introduces author Jim Collins (b. 1958), who studies the difference between "good" organizations and "great" organizations. He and his team discovered that great companies are led by people able to "look failures in the face" and still believe "they would succeed in the end." This is indicative of the growth mindset.
••• Section 3 of Chapter 5, "A Study of Mindset and Management Decisions," describes a study done by psychologists Robert Wood (b. 1941) and Albert Bandura (b. 1925). They placed business students in different groups based on their mindsets and then had the groups run a simulated business. Those with the fixed mindset failed again and again while those with the growth mindset continually altered their strategies based on what they learned didn't work. The latter group was much more successful than the former.
••• The fourth section of Chapter 5 is "Leadership and the Fixed Mindset." In this section, Dweck refers back to Jim Collins's research about great companies and lackluster companies. Collins concluded that most lackluster companies are led by someone with a "gargantuan personal ego." Because these leaders prefer to be the center of attention and praise, they don't surround themselves with good managers or people willing to honestly critique their ideas. They don't learn from their mistakes, so they keep making them over and over again.
••• Chapter 5's fifth section, "Fixed-Mindset Leaders in Action," is about administrators whose fixed mindsets led them to torpedo their companies. Executives covered include Lee Iacocca (1924–2019) of Chrysler Motors, Steve Case (b. 1958) of America Online Inc. (AOL), and Jerry Levin (b. 1939) of Time Warner. All were more concerned about their own image than about the health of the companies they ran.
••• Section 6 of Chapter 5, "Growth-Mindset Leaders in Action," is about great CEOs, including Jack Welch (b. 1935) of GE, Lou Gerstner (b. 1942) of IBM, and Anne Mulcahy (b. 1952) of Xerox. Each of them listened to employees and put the success of the company ahead of personal gain. They were often criticized for their methods, but their growth mindsets allowed them to ignore the naysayers and work steadily toward their long-term goals.
••• The seventh section of Chapter 5 is "A Study of Group Processes." It describes a second study by Wood and Bandura. In this study the researchers placed business students in groups of three according to their shared mindsets. Researchers discovered that group members who all had growth mindsets were willing to share their ideas and opinions honestly and openly. People who had fixed mindsets were too worried about being judged to have productive discussions. They veered more toward groupthink.
Let’s pause here for today and we hope you think of these points as you plan for the week ahead.
Let’s us know how you’ve been reflecting with these discussions.
Happy Sunday!

For the past two weeks, we have been talking about #mentoring and #mentorship. Now let's see the other perspective of mentoring, which is the #mentees.
In a mentorship, there involves two parties the mentors and the mentees. We usually focus on our mentors; losing track as to what to expect from us, the mentees.
As a mentee, we should be prepared to be coachable. This doesn't always mean absorbing whatever the mentor has to say. Filtering what works for us and not is one part of it but we don't have to be skeptical about it either. Most importantly, we should really prepare ourselves to listen/understand to what we don't want to hear.
What does your experience as a mentee look like if you had one?
Share us your story.
Success stories.
#netibconsult #personaldevelopment #growthmindset #NCM
Mentorship is the influence or direction given by a mentor to a mentee, which enables a person to share their knowledge, social capital, and expertise with another person sustained within a period of time.
Mentorship experiences and relationship structure can also affect the level of support and guidance that a person receives from a mentor.
With this in mind, lets make ourselves resourceful.
#netibconsult #personaldevelopment #growthmindset #mentoring #coaching #sustainabledevelopment #NCM
Being focused on reaching our goal, staying driven and motivated by our purpose is how we achieve it.
