Tonight's TNF game is emblematic of TNF
Tonights game pits the 1-7 Panthers against the 2-7 Bears. I for one am incredibly excited because I believe TNF is about watching bad football.

My favorite TNF game of all time was the WK 14 2013 game pitting an awful Texans squad against my own awful Jaguars. Jaguars would go on to win an incredibly ugly and penalty filled (22 of them) 27-20 with Matt Schaub, Case Keenum, Chad Henne, and MJD putting on a show for a national audience that probably went to bad that night with the same feeling as you would have after going minor league hockey game.
What are some other wonderfully awful TNF Matchups that we can remember?

[Cox] Bill Belichick said some of the officiating in yesterday's game was "kind of unusual." Clete Blakeman's crew called 19 penalties and picked up a few other flags. "The obvious question is if they’re being picked up, why’d you throw it in the first place?"

there to get their QB killed behind every weekend. Next up is a Commanders team, with a DL that's likely to give Big Blue all kinds of headaches.
29. | [](/NE) | Patriots | -1 | 1-5 | Hazelnut trees require patience. It can take 20 years or more from when they are planted to when they start to produce nuts. You’d have to be both nuts and extraordinarily patient to stay loyal to this team. Luckily I am! The rapid ascension from 30+ point losses to simply falling apart in close games against bad teams has me giddy with optimism. A 9-8 team made the playoffs in the AFC last year. The Patriots just need to go 8-3 down the stretch to get to that mark and have a chance. That means they can get their asses kicked by the Bills and the Dolphins in the next two weeks, and still have a loss to give for the Chiefs down the stretch! All they need to do is be perfect against the Commanders, Colts, Giants, Chargers, Steelers, Broncos, Bills again (uh oh), and Jets again (Ha! Fuck the Jets!). Hell, if they pull out a radical upset of Buffalo THIS week, they’ll be sitting pretty for the home stretch! I don’t feel real hope in my heart, but I choose to imagine a future worth celebrating. Also known as “filberts” or “cobnuts”, hazelnut trees can produce food for up to 100 years once mature.
30. | [](/CHI) | Bears | -- | 1-5 | Though it’s an outdated and simplistic model, the five stages of grief have long provided some comfort and structure to people navigating difficult losses. Here are the five stages of grieving yet another failed quarterback & coach, according to Bears fans: 1) Denial: Look! Fields is finally stacking great games. They are somehow turning this around! Trusting the process paid off. Fields can be the guy here and we have the draft capital to surround him with more pieces. 2) Anger: How in the hell was this team so flat, unprepared, and lifeless after 10 days to get ready? Fire everyone! Fire Flus, Fire Getsy, Fire Poles! Assassinate Virginia McCaskey. The Bears have ruined yet another amazing quarterback. 3) Bargaining: Well, if Fields only misses 1-2 weeks, maybe he can still show enough development to save his Bears career (or at least net a draft pick). Bagent looked pretty good outside of those two plays. Maybe he’s the next Brock Purdy! 4) Depression: This is all terrible. I might as well mow the lawn on Sundays. Can I get an in-season deal on RedZone? How many more primetime games are we in? Ugh. My deck needs a joist replaced anyway… 5) Acceptance: “Ok Google, play Caleb Williams and Drake Maye highlights, 2023 season
31. | [](/DEN) | Broncos | -- | 1-5 | Let’s make an exchange, shall we? I’ll trade you my dreams: I dreamed of a ray of light, of a silver trophy. The light that shone from that trophy spoke to me. I listened to the story it told me. A nameless one, an aimless one, arrived from the edge of the continent, clad in greens and blues. Ride now, he said, and we marched unwaveringly into the sun. At the end, we will return with a prize. We marched toward the light. Yet that light began to burn, piercing through the crowd as a persistent death. Many fled, for the light had gone out and we were soon to meet with a vicious destruction. “Be not dismayed,” the nameless one spoke, his voice heavy laden with comforts. “A new era will purge the wicked abominations. We must follow the traces of the light through the fog of the new morning. It shines silently, yearning to pierce the shroud hanging over the center of a promise. Listen to the silence, and we will find where the light is resting. We will strike the Earth with our bodies, once, and again, feeding the soil with our blood. The plant that grows from this spot will nurture us, rid us of sickness and poison. Though it will come again, the flame may find no fear within us. Let it know a chill, the fire that forged the bricks which laid the foundation upon whose backs we now trod. Then,” says the aimless one, “we who have reached the end will enter into the paradise that contains all things.” We looked upon the intemperance of a child king, an arrogance
helped them climb back to a .500 record on the season, but overall the team's output is still well below average. Outside of Ja'Marr Chase the Bengals offense is not contributing enough to be a playoff caliber team in 2023.
15. | [](/LAC) | Chargers | -3 | 2-3 | In what felt almost like a must-win game, the Chargers offense and defense had a body swap. The defense did its part but Herbert had arguably the worst game of his career. Whether it was the constant pressure, his injured finger, or just an off night is unclear, but the team will need to get more out of him if they're to dig themselves out of the whole they've dug themselves into.
16. | [](/HOU) | Texans | +6 | 3-3 | An ugly win is still a win, and the Houston Texans have now matched their season total from a year ago in just 6 weeks. Interception Watch finally came to an end as CJ Stroud finally threw his first one after 192 passes, but even his mistakes work out as the return was fumbled back to the Texans for a first down. The defense lived up to their SWARM mentality and held Derrick Carr and the Saints offense to just 3 points in their three trips to the red zone. And now after surviving six weeks being held together by duct tape, the Texans have reached their bye week. With the team returning to near full health and a favorable schedule, the Texans might just be ready to make some noise moving forward this season.
17. | [](/NYJ) | Jets | +6 | 3-3 | Jets fans looked at their schedule before the season and saw a 6 game opening stretch that included games against Buffalo, Dallas, KC, and Philly. Most said that they'd be happy with 3-3 -- and that was when they were expecting Aaron Rodgers to be their QB. Even with Zach Wilson at the helm, the rest of the schedule is manageable enough that the playoffs are not out of the question. Take the week to get some guys healthy and come out with a game against the Giants and a chance to be over .500. Side note for fans of other teams: If you don't know who Bryce Huff is yet, you will soon. Huff is currently 1st in the NFL in pressure rate, and 4th in QB Pressures. His snap share has gone up week over week and is an ascending star on Robert Saleh's defense. Jets would be wise to extend him as soon as possible.
18. | [](/NO) | Saints | -5 | 3-3 | Well that was a swing and a miss, and while the team makes overtures about needing to do better, it's been six weeks now and it's still being trotted out. Thank god for this defense or things would be truly dire.
19. | [](/PIT) | Steelers | -- | 3-2 | This upcoming week is going to be elucidating for the Steelers. As was pointed out last week, there is an incongruity between the Steelers' rankings and their record. They will face a Rams team with a similar incongruity as they have just clawed their way back to .500 while being decidedly in the top half of the league in PF and PA. The Rams are averaging 23.0 PF and 19.5 PA, while the Steelers are 15.8 PF and 22.0 PA. Will the Steelers team who gives up 30 and scores 7 points or less show up? Or will the team who ekes out wins by a touchdown or less make the trip to Los Angeles? They've had a bye week to decide who they are. Now they just need to show it against the rest of the AFC North who all won in an impressive fashion this week, especially the Bengals and Browns who beat the Seahawks and 49ers, respectively. If the AFCN is surging, the Steelers had better keep pace, because these kinds of victories can heat these previously cold teams up.
20. | [](/ATL) | Falcons | -4 | 3-3 | [Desmond outmatched, another game of flashes, Drake London played hurt, still reeled in nine catches. Campbell celebrated his 100th sack with the dirty bird dance, Howell made the whole line look like they had talent. Respect to Grady Jarrett, the line doubled their total in week six, the weakness of this team is keeping hopeful. Bijan split the workload, "only" eighty yards ain’t normal, this backfield is a force that won’t reckon with mere mortals. Will Ridder deliver his first road win in Tampa Bay? We’ll see. Until then, a little advice, don’t
Official r/NFL Week 6 Power Rankings
Welcome to week 6 of the official r/NFL Power Rankings! The top teams fell like dominoes this week, including the only two undefeated teams left. Do the Dolphins deserve to jump after scoring a measly 42? Are the Bengals still on an upward trajectory after fending off the Seahawks? After losing Richardson to IR, is Minshew Mania underrated or overrated? Do the Jets even need a quarterback? Discuss! 1. | [](/SF) | 49ers | -- | 5-1 | Give credit to the Cleveland D, the 49ers offense was a polar opposite of the unit that routed the Cowboys last week. Purdy looked uncomfortable all game, throwing his first interception all season. The offensive line looked overwhelmed, and Trent Williams missed time. Deebo and CMC were ruled out with injuries. Jake Moody Missed 2/3 field goals. And yet the team still drove the field with 2 minutes left to set up a game winning field goal attempt. The team looks to shake off the poor performances and get back in the win column in Minnesota on MNF this week.
2. | [](/KC) | Chiefs | +1 | 5-1 | Death, taxes, and the Chiefs beating the Broncos.
3. | [](/DET) | Lions | +2 | 5-1 | THE DETROIT MF LIONS NOW HAVE THE BEST RECORD IN THE NFL. Creamsicle day in Tampa Bay was as authentic as it could possibly be as the Detroit Lions dispatched their old NFC Central rivals the Buccaneers behind a suffocating defensive performance and a Jared Goff clock-burning clinic. Detroit held the Bucs to just 2-12 on 3rd down while the defense weathered the loss of DMont by airing it out, with Jared Goff posting 253 yards and 2 TDs, including a 45 yard bomb to Jameson Williams which he fought through contact to bring in. Dan Campbell continues to have these guys overcoming brutal injury luck and playing inspired football to the tune of a fourth straight 14+ point victory. I leave you on this beautiful Tuesday with maybe the block of the year from Craig Reynolds on Amon Ra St. Brown’s TD catch and run, the embodiment of “next man up” for this monstrous team.
4. | [](/MIA) | Dolphins | -- | 5-1 | [Soon....](https://i.imgur.com/Pj9h9DD.png)
5. | [](/PHI) | Eagles | -3 | 5-1 | It was the battle of the teams that love to spell, and for the first time in the history of the universe, the J-e-t-s beat the E-a-g-l-e-s. The narrative coming out of the game for most Philadelphians is that Hurts had the worst game of his career (and arguably, he did), but this Jets defense has made excellent quarterbacks look foolish all season long. Next week, the Eagles will try to right the ship in Kelly Green against the Dolphins on Sunday night, in a matchup primed to be a shootout with two mid-tier defenses and strong offenses.
6. | [](/BUF) | Bills | -- | 4-2 | Well, barely squeaking by a one-win Giants team that’s been destroyed by every other good team they’ve played isn’t a great look. Not to mention it’s not even like it was a shootout, the Bills managed just 14 points of offense —entirely in the fourth quarter. For one reason or another, it feels like Diggs is the only target that Allen trusts, and he’s forcing it to him hard. That may be partially for good reason though. At times it’s felt like Diggs is the only one able to find any kind of separation. Is it a skill issue or a scheme issue? Likely a little of both. But hey, at the end of the day it just feels good to win, right? Right??
7. | [](/DAL) | Cowboys | -- | 4-2 | Its much better to go into a bye off a win than a loss. Fairly certain no one will disagree with that. This was touted as a Kellen Moore revenge game, but revenge on who? Dallas held the Chargers to under 275 yards of total offense, and their running game was DOA. There were definitely coaching mistakes on both sides of the ball, but there were also execution issues. At the end of the day, though, the more talented

[Louis-Jacques] .... McDaniel, on what it means if the Dolphins beat the Chiefs: "That means we're 7-2. Does 7 wins get you into the playoffs? Probably not."

infinitely mirrored. Waves crashed as they entered my dream. My shapeless prince, who measured the world against himself and found it too much to hold, prepared to depart once more. “Countless shooting stars strike the ground this night. Should I choose the right one,” he said, “it may carry me to thousands of distant wins.” In his words were hidden a truth – we were not that star. And it was not he who was meant to carry us, but we who were meant to carry him. A blue night fell with thickened weight upon the orange valley, with no new sun to break the dawn.
32. | [](/CAR) | Panthers | -- | 0-6 | Let me paint a picture for you. Imagine a Panther and a Dolphin in a 1000m race via swimming. The Panther gets a 200m head start. The gun sounds bang and the Dolphin cruises by the Panther, quickly winning the race without breaking a singular bead of aquatic mammal sweat. Meanwhile, the Panther has zero swimming endurance and barely escapes without drowning. That's basically what happened Sunday. We started out hot and found an early lead then promptly reverted to the Carolina Panthers we are unfortunately so familiar with. We still have not covered a single point spread this season. The ole saying goes ,"Good teams win but great teams cover." We are neither. Bryce is showing growth but the team is still struggling to find an offensive identity. Chubba had a solid day, showing he can be a reliable option when called upon but the real story coming out of Week 6 is we finally have a new play-caller starting Week 8. Thomas Brown play-calling loading *insert smiling purple demon emoji here* A much needed bye week up next. Now we have something to look forward to? I hope so. Keep Pounding.

bet the over. But Jeff Okudah's settling, the secondary’s gelling, Pitts is getting reps in, week seven should be a treat.](https://imgur.com/a/ZzsM2u4)
21. | [](/IND) | Colts | -4 | 3-3 | Anthony Richardson is "probably" [having season-ending surgery](https://twitter.com/FieldYates/status/1714083704555934206?s=20). Gardner Minshew [*actually* looked like Uncle Rico](https://youtu.be/BxN9Mw6iQUs?feature=shared) this week. Three wins already might be too many to land [Marvin Harrison Jr](https://imgur.com/a/UoE5FNv). It's been [~~84~~ 9 years](https://media.giphy.com/media/xUanPliWDp9Pq/giphy.gif) since the Colts' last win in Jacksonville.
22. | [](/GB) | Packers | -2 | 2-3 | A bye week! A chance to cleanse the palate of all the shitty mediocre football the Packers have played over the last couple of weeks and get back on track. Eh who am I kidding I spent the weekend watching Iowa beat Wisconsin 15-6 that was NOT the palate cleanser I was looking for. God the Jets even won so our draft pick didn't even get any better.
23. | [](/WAS) | Commanders | +1 | 3-3 | A win is a win, but it's hard to get excited about. Sitting at 3-3, seasoned Commanders fans are watching this team and seeing the blur of decades past; mediocrity has been the mark of this franchise for 30 years. Hell, mediocrity has been the highlight of this franchise for 30 years. Frustratingly, this team is a few plays away from being 5-1, but also a few plays away from 1-5. Consistent inconsistency. There's plenty to be hopeful about though. Sam Howell can sling the ball in a way Washington fans haven't seen in a decade, and he doesn't seem to get fazed by much; he just needs to fix his pocket vision. Wide receivers Terry McLaurin and Curtis Samuel are proving to be a reliable dynamic duo, but the supporting cast is dropping balls. Chase Young is making an individual impact and looking like the difference maker we need. Tress Way continues his HOF campaign at the punter position. But the eye test on this team isn't passing, in this ranker's opinion. The coaching continues to feel off. It just doesn't feel like this team is a good fit for the modern NFL, like it's behind the times. Patience for Ron Rivera and Jack Del Rio grows thin in the nation's capital, and an 8-9/9-8 season feels like destiny. If that's where this ends up, fans will be eagerly watching how the new ownership deals with continued mediocrity.
24. | [](/LV) | Raiders | +1 | 3-3 | With rumors swirling that McDaniels is on the hot seat, he yet again found a way to upset Raider Nation. The Raiders ended up barely beating the lowly Patriots in a complete snoozefest of a game. Hopefully the Bears can beat us and get McDaniels fired.
25. | [](/TEN) | Titans | -4 | 2-4 | The Titans defense was able to slow down the Ravens offense and only allow one touchdown, but the 6 field goals that Justin Tucker hit was too much for a dysfunctional Titans offense to overcome. The Titans offense has now gone 24 straight games without scoring 30 points. [They are only 2 more games away from tying the 1976-1977 inaugural Bucs team in consecutive games scoring under 30 points](https://x.com/terrymc13/status/1714095598683431022?s=20).
26. | [](/MIN) | Vikings | -- | 2-4 | The Vikings had five sacks, two picks and a strip sack scoop-and-score and still almost lost to some guy named Tyler Bagel or something. On the bright side, the Vikings of all teams now somehow have PFF's highest-graded offensive line, led by [Christian Darrisaw](https://twitter.com/PFF_Sam/status/1714000205685686781).
27. | [](/ARI) | Cardinals | -- | 1-5 | Don’t care. Swept the Dodgers. Go Snakes. All we can do is wait for Murray. We currently own #4 and #12 in the draft.
28. | [](/NYG) | Giants | +1 | 1-5 | The offensive woes continue, as despite holding the Bills to 14 points and 0 through the first 3 quarters, the Giants came up empty-handed on Sunday night. Tyrod had a decent enough night (aside from a critical mistake to end the first half), but it's hard to get anything going with the patchwork OL that the Giants are sending out
team won out.
8. | [](/BAL) | Ravens | +1 | 4-2 | They came, they went. Taking in lessons from 6 years ago when they got skullfucked by the Jaguars, the Ravens arrived in London a full week in advance; in contrast, the Titans arrived late Thursday night and spent less than 48 hours in London before the game started. The slow start was evident in the game tape on Sunday and showed in the score at half(18-3). Ravens continued their dreadful offensive sleepwalking with a lead paired with newfound redzone woes scoring just one touchdown in 5 red zone trips this Sunday(on the bright side, we've got a [pretty good kicker](https://wp.usatodaysports.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/90/2013/12/lionplayerreaction12msfn.gif). A team that could easily be 6-0 if they would simply get out of their own way, however, they continue to leave doors open for teams to rally in the second half. Up next are the NFC leaders in the 5-1 Detroit Lions. Expect the Ravens to show up ready to play their best ball of the year only to flounder against lesser opponents in the ensuing weeks. If you don’t like that, you don’t like Ravens football.
9. | [](/JAX) | Jaguars | +1 | 4-2 | Multiple games over .500 for the first time in half a decade, the Jaguars are finally again spoopy in time for the relevant season. Your gods can't save you now, Saints. 👻
10. | [](/SEA) | Seahawks | -2 | 3-2 | This loss was a very difficult pill to swallow. Seattle's defense showed up big time, holding Joe Burrow below 200 yards and only allowing Ja'Marr Chase 6 catches on 13 targets. Tre Brown had a nice pick, and the secondary overall was.... wonderful to watch. Devon Witherspoon continues his strong rookie campaign. Jamal Adams's **TRUE** return was wonderful. There was not a lot to critique on the defensive side of the ball. The complete opposite is true for the offense. The O-line was allowing Geno to be pressured throughout the game; the Bengals ended Sunday with 13 QB hits. And while he was being quickly pressured, Geno had a... weird game, as well. He seemed gun-shy and afraid to take shots he was willing to last season. [He had JSN running totally free for what should have been 6, and just doesn't take the shot.](https://fxtwitter.com/MikeDugar/status/1713957063754162350?s=20) I'm confident the offense will figure things out and get back to humming.
11. | [](/CLE) | Browns | +3 | 3-2 | The Browns managed to win the best way they know how.... letting the other team manage to lose. Taking down the powerhouse 49ers was a shocker. Seeing it done with Watson not play was not. The Browns defense did much of the heavy lifting in the post bye win. The Browns, and maybe Watson, will face the Colts next week in Indy.
12. | [](/TB) | Buccaneers | -1 | 3-2 | I am very opinionated about this game. I was looking forward to this game for the last 2 weeks, and we looked like utter crap. So believe me, I can talk about this game for the next two weeks. I have so many expletives, jokes and curse words to share. But however, I'll just use this opportunity to congratulate the Detroit Lions and their fans for being a legit team and a team that will seemingly win their division this season. Congratulations, you are no longer going to hear the "Did you know that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers won the Detroit Lions' division more recently than the Lions?" stat.
13. | [](/LAR) | Rams | +2 | 3-3 | For all the criticism Sean McVay has taken this year for poor in-game adjustments, he deserves credit for being on the right side of "night and day" halves of football this week. In the second half, there was a marked shift away from forcing the pass towards relying on the run, which has been a quickly abandoned strategy this season, especially when trailing. The young defensive unit also had another stellar game and have quietly outperformed offseason expectations. There's reason to be optimistic about the rest of the season and this roster given the flashes shown at times — the struggle is getting everyone performing well together.
14. | [](/CIN) | Bengals | +4 | 3-3 | The Bengals defense
team won out.
