In 2007, a Jets fan sued the Patriots for secretly videotaping the Jets' signals; they argued that ticket-holders had a contractual right to an "honest match". The court decided that they held "nothing more than a contractual right to a seat from which to watch an NFL game".

- https://caselaw.findlaw.com/court/us-3rd-circuit/1524532.html

Couple of paragraphs I randomly picked out to sum up the Jets fan's case:

> This case is brought by a New York Jets season ticket-holder on behalf of all similarly situated New York Jets season ticket-holders and other New York Jets ticket-holders against the Defendant New England Patriots and their coach, Defendant Bill Belichick. The core of this action is that the Defendants, during a game with the New York Jets on September 9, 2007, instructed an agent of the Defendants to surreptitiously videotape the New York Jets coaches and players on the field with the purpose of illegally recording, capturing and stealing the New York Jets signals and visual coaching instructions. The Defendants were in fact subsequently found by the National Football League (“NFL”) to have improperly engaged in such conduct. This violated the contractual expectations and rights of New York Jets ticket-holders who fully anticipated and contracted for a ticket to observe an honest match played in compliance with all laws, regulations and NFL rules.

> The Patriots and Belichick deployed their surreptitious videotaping program during all eight games played against the Jets in Giants Stadium from 2000 through 2007. Beginning in 2000 when Belichick became head coach, they commenced an ongoing scheme to acquire the signals of their adversaries and then match such signals to the plays on the field, in alleged violation of the “NFL rules that are part of the ticketholders' contractual and/or quasi contractual rights.” (A24.) On the other hand, Jets fans collectively spent more than $61 million on tickets to watch these purportedly honest and competitive games between the two teams.

Posting this because I find it to be a pretty funny case; the decision made was the obvious one IMO.

In 2014 Mark Cuban predicted the implosion of the NFL, instead its popularity rises every year. What changes would you make, in order to make the sport more successful and accessible to even more people?

In 2014 Cuban said that the NFL was going to implode in 10 years time, due to its greediness. It was when the League struck a deal with NFL Network to broadcast games on Thursdays. Cuban thought that somehow more football, would tire people out.

We all know that his prediction didn’t happen, in fact the opposite is true. In what way do you think the League can reach an even bigger audience and how do you think the sport can improve?

Which players are most likely to get "Mozgov Money" this offseason with the $30M spike in the salary cap?

For those not familiar with NBA history, the NBA saw a massive spike in its salary cap going into the 2016 offseason. Players who were free agents that year were able to cash in on large contracts that instantly looked ridiculous. The most famous example of this was Timofey Mozgov, a 6-year bench player for the Cavaliers that never averaged more than 10 pts/game, who signed a 4 year, $64M fully guaranteed contract with the LA Lakers. The contract paid him more per year than Steph Curry or John Wall. Mozgov was eventually waived by the Magic in 2018 after the Lakers salary-dumped him in a 3-team trade.

Which upcoming free agents that showed a flash of upside do you think will be overpaid now that all teams have an extra $11M in salary room more than expected?

the Ravens in turnover differential with +12 on the season. The defense had 30 turnovers in the last twelve games, forcing seven in the last two weeks against two playoff teams. His blitz-heavy scheme of forcing pressure onto the QB doesn’t always generate sacks, but it can lead to poor passes and turnovers. However, Wink had an unprofessional exit from the team and leaked stories to the press to put Daboll in a negative light.

Thomas McGaughey, ST: Fired on Black Monday. Giants special teams were rough the last two years, with multiple fumbles and poor positioning. Although the Giants did get their first punt return TD since 2015 this year, it was too little too late for Thomas.

Bobby Johnson, Offensive Line Coach: Fired on Black Monday. Was responsible for the developmental failings of Evan Neal, JMS, Tyre Phillips, Joshua Ezeudu, Marcus McKethan, and more. Bobby was responsible for the worst Offensive Line in the NFL for 2023 by PFF metrics. Tyre Phillips spent a month on the Eagles practice squad, made huge improvements, and credited his time with the Eagles as the primary source of his growth. Bobby Johnson was replaced by former Raiders OL coach Carmen Bricillo.

# Final Thoughts

This was a rough year, no doubt about it. After a successful 2022 season that showed we were a team ready to fight for every inch, the Week 1 collapse quickly ripped away the hope that had been built up. We all knew a rebuild was coming, but a competitive season would've been nice.

With another year of QB controversy looming behind a high draft pick, here's hoping that 2024 at least starts better than 40-0 at home.

and 1, giving the Rams seven points, and had both a sack and a pick in the two minute drill. He also missed an open Saquon on what would have been a game-winning 2 point conversion. The defense played lights out with multiple picks, but the missed PAT, missed FG, and missed 2PT conversion on top of the offense’s (Saquon’s) multiple drops were too much to overcome.Gunnar would be named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week.

Giants lose, 26-25 (5-11, 5th pick in the 2024 Draft.)

Week 18: Home vs Philly.

The Giants have been the team to provide a “get-right” game all season. But with the #2 seed on the line, Philly absolutely collapsed. Jalen Hurts, Jason Kelce, and Lane Johnson were all pulled during the second quarter after Philly fell 24-0. The Giants absolutely dominated the Eagles on both sides of the ball, with 4 defensive turnovers and only 29 passing yards from Jalen Hurts.(Cross out K Mann, link to gif of Mann’s attempted flop) Jamie Gillan was named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week.

Giants win, 27-10 (6-11, 6th pick in the 2024 Draft - worth it.)

# Stats:

Offense

The Giants offense failed to score a touchdown on the first possession of every game this season, the last time they did so was 1997. The Giants started 3 QBs, and as expected the best record went to UDFA Tommy DeVito (3-2). Daniel Jones and Tommy DeVito would lead the NFL in sack percentage, and our offensive line ranked dead last by every measureable standard.

The hope was that Daniel Jones would continue to play mistake-free football, that his league-leading 1.5% INT rate from 2022 was more of a product of effort then luck. However, Jones threw more picks (6) in 6 games this year then all of 2022 (5), and his rushing upside was quickly capped by injuries to a constantly rotating OL and an inability to adjust protections at the line pre-snap.

Barkley suffered a high-ankle sprain early in the season, and it slowed his explosiveness for the entire season.

Just a few notes about our offensive line:

Andrew Thomas got hurt Week 1 on the blocked FG attempt, and would miss several weeks during the season. It was while Joshua Ezeudu "filled in" that Jones received a neck injury with suspected nerve damage. It was clear that Jones was unable to adapt to missing his All-Pro LT, as Jones would take numerous sacks from the blindside as if he wasn't even looking that direction.

Evan Neal managed to anger the entire city of New York by calling the Giants fans "burger flippers" and insulting them. He posted an apology written in the Notes app on his iPhone on Twitter. Neal would be injured Weeks 11-18 and had surgery on his ankle during Week 18. His replacement, Tyre Phillips, performed well until tearing his quad Week 17.

Our offensive line put up multiple "0" scored pass-blocking games, including two from Mark Glowinski (benched) and one from rookie JMS.

In the history of PFF ranking, the 2023 Giants offensive line are the lowest scored unit to ever be recorded.

Defense:

After a rocky start, the defense was able to put up 30 turnovers on the year, good for 2nd in the NFL. Dexter Lawrence would lead the NFL in pressures per pass-rushing snap with 1 pressure every 9.9 snaps (Chris Jones had 1 every 10.8 snaps, and Aaron Donald had 1 every 13

and 2 passing TDs along with 50 rushing yards and a rush TD and did it all in the second half - a feat only ever matched by Michael Vick in 2010. The Cardinals put up 8 points in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to stop this revitalized offense. Saquon Barkley suffered a high ankle sprain.

Giants win, 31-28 (1-1)

Week 3: TNF At 49ers.

The game was tied 3-3 going into the second quarter, but the Giants couldn’t get a 3rd down stop and the 49ers put on a YAC clinic. Waller had two key 3rd down conversions hit him in the hands and drop, multiple batted passes fell the way of the 49ers, and our offensive line was nonexistent. Both teams played their backup QBs, for very different reasons.

Giants lose, 30-12 (1-2)

Week 4: MNF, Home vs Seahawks.

With an extra few days to rest before this game, the hope is the Giants would come in healthy and rested for revenge against the Geno Smith-led Seahawks.

That hope was unfounded. The Seahawks put up 11 sacks and a pick-six, the first team to do so since the 1967 Raiders. The Giants have put up 3 points over their first two home games, the lowest in the NFL in the last 40 years.

Giants lose, 24-3 (1-3)

Week 5: At Miami.

The Giants scored their first TD in the first half on a 102 yard pick-six by Jason Pinnock and had their first defensive turnover of the season. The Giants go another game without an offensive touchdown, and are only spared further embarrassment by the leg of Graham Gano.

Giants lose, 31-16 (1-4)

Week 6: SNF At Buffalo.

Tyrod Taylor came in to replace an injured Daniel Jones, but Saquon was finally back. We lost three of four tackles on the active roster, so practice squad players found their way onto the offensive line. The Giants played their first offensive snap with a lead this season, but penalties and key red zone miscommunications led to zero points at the one yard line to end both halves. A very winnable game escapes the Giants and the losing continues.

The Giants have not scored an offensive touchdown in three weeks and one quarter.

Giants lose, 14-9 (1-5)

Week 6.5: Home vs God

Joshua Ezeudu, starting LT, and Shane Lemieux, back-up OL, both suffered injuries and were sent to IR. Justin Pugh was signed off the couch and onto the 53-man roster, Sean Harlow was signed off the Cowboy’s practice squad, and Tyre Phillips was signed off the Eagles’ practice squad. Harlow and Phillips both played the preseason with the Giants, and would show their allegiance to their interim teams by committing multiple pre-snap penalties throughout the season.

Week 7: Home vs Washington.

The Giants broke a number of streaks tonight, as Darren Waller finally found the endzone and the Giants finally scored a touchdown - get this - in the first half. The Giants doubled their sack total on the season with six against Howell, and a goal-line stand puts the Giants back in the Wild Card hunt.

Giants win, 14-7 (2-5)

Week 8: Home vs Jets.

They say that only the good die young. That explains why this game wouldn’t end.

One of the most impressive streaks in the NFL is that everytime Tyrod Taylor was injured, his backup rookie QB would turn into an NFL starter. Tyrod tried his hardest by breaking four ribs and displacing two, but the Giants broke this streak with Tommy DiVito throwing for negative yardage. A still injured Gano shanked two FGs, and while Kayvon Thibodeaux was unstoppable on defense, the Giants forgot how to play offense and fell to a last second FG….in overtime.

Giants lose, 13-10 (2-6)

Week 9: At Las Vegas.

The Raiders had their GM and HC fired during the week, pushing former Giant Antonio Pierce into the HC role. Despite the return of LT Andrew Thomas, C JMS, and QB Daniel Jones, victory wasn’t in the cards as Jones would tear his ACL. A winnable game on paper quickly went downhill with the Raiders holding a 30-0 lead into the 4th quarter.

Giants lose, 30-6 (2-7)

Week 10: At Dallas.

History doesn’t repeat itself, but it often rhymes. Andrew Thomas got hurt on the second drive of the game,

OC The nearest In-N-Out Burger location to every current NFL stadium

I was in Disneyland the past week, and the fact I was in California inspired this probably unnecessary offseason post. How I did this took quite a bit of research, and I ended up doing the following for each venue:

1) Looked up general In-N-Out locations across the U.S. (spoiler: none of them are in the northern states)

2) Calculated directions to the stadiums from several of the nearest restaurants

3) Figured out the actual closest by the shortest route (in miles, as of Presidents Day week)

With that being said, here is the data of the closest In-N-Out restaurants to all 30 NFL stadium locations, collected by none other than me:

Team(s) Served | Stadium Name | Shortest Distance (Miles)

Xavier McKinney and Bobby Okereke would be the only two players to play 100% of defensive snaps. McKinney finished as PFF's #4 safety on the year with an 87.8, and led the NFL in coverage.

# Roster Review

All Pro:

Dexter Lawrence, IDL, Second Team, with 14 votes for First Team and 30 votes for Second Team.

Bobby Okereke received one vote for First Team and 11 for Second Team as a linebacker, Gunnar Olszewski received one vote for First Team as a Punt Returner, Xavier McKinney received 6 votes for Second Team, and Jamie Gillan received one vote for Second Team.

Pro Bowl:

Dexter Lawrence, NT.

Alternates: Saquon Barkley (2nd) and Kayvon Thibodeaux (3rd).

Team Strengths:

Inside Linebackers, oddly enough. Normally a weakness for Big Blue, the addition of Okereke and the sudden improvement of Micah McFadden turned the middle of the field into one of our best secured areas.

Team Needs:

Everything else? QB is a question mark, Saquon may find a new team next year, and we certainly don't have the offensive line to support any sort of playmaking. Our defense has some star players, but it's hard to tell whether it's scheme or lack of talent surrounding them doing more damage.

And to be fair, it's hard to play defense when your offense isn't able to stay on the field.

Brian Daboll: 2023's COTY had a rough showing with a blowout loss, multiple injuries, and an immediate return to form for the regular season. Losing two cornerstones of the team - Kicker and All-Pro Left Tackle - on the first drive of the season didn't help his cause, nor did the ever rotating injury carosel at Offensive Line. The media was quick to fire up the hot seat, but with an optional out after the 2024 season in Daniel Jones' contract, it's worth seeing what Daboll could do with a new QB.

Mike Kafka, OC: A quick look at the offensive woes of this season would suggest Kafka should be shown the door. But looking at the All-22, it quickly became apparent that scheme wasn’t the issue. There were multiple plays a game with wide open players downfield, wide open players on the sideline, and wide open players in the endzone that our QBs simply could not find.

Should our QBs gain a little confidence in the pocket, there’s reason to believe that the Giants offense will explode. An argument could be made that the offensive scheme should be adjusted to make the QB’s job easier. But when Wan'Dale Robinson is doing jumping jacks near the sideline and isn't getting the ball, perhaps the blame may lie somewhere else.

Mike Kafka will continue as OC for the 2024 season.

and the Giants were down 28-0 at the half, giving up 68 unanswered points to the Cowboys. Lawrence Cager got a rare TD to end the streak, but the damage was done. Kayvon was concussed, and even the announcers knew it was a “get-well” game for the Cowboys as Gallup and Cook both hauled in TDs. Dallas had 6 players with a TD from scrimmage - a franchise record - and 640 yards of offense on 8.3 yards per play.

Fellow basement dweller Tommy DeVito surpassed the $40 Million Dollar Man and QB stepping stone Tyrod Taylor in passing TDs on the year, giving serious consideration to the Giants drafting strategy. With two offensive starters being found on couches of questionable quality, perhaps it’s time to start digging between the cushions.Cordale Flott and Curtis Samuel both got ejected after a post-TD fight, and Isaiah Simmons had a pick-six to ice the game. Kayvon would hit 10 sacks on the season, becoming the first player to get double-digit sacks under Wink Martindale’s system.

Tommy DeVito won Rookie of the Week.

Giants win, 31-19 (3-8), 5th pick in the 2024 draft.

Week 12: Home vs NE.

The politest way to describe this game would be a defensive slugfest, with 3 INTs by the Giants defense, 1 INT by the Patriots, and a few fumbles along the way. The most accurate way to describe this game is an offensive showing. Mac Jones got pulled at the half for Bailey Zappe, who engineered one successful drive. In the battle for Caleb Williams, the defensive mastermind Bill Belichick would lose the battle in an attempt to win the war

Jalin Hyatt won Rookie of the Week, and was PFF’s highest ranked receiver of the week with a 92.

Giants win, 10-7 (4-8), 7th pick in the 2024 draft.

Week 13: Bye Week.

Tyrod Taylor came back from IR, but the Giants decided to roll with Tommy Salami’s hot hand.

Week 14: MNF, Home vs Green Bay.

The Giants started to look like the Giants again. Randy Bullock missed a field goal, Saquon had two rushing TDs, and multiple defensive stops. Wink’s defense had three red zone stops and an unforced pick by Pinnock. Darnay Holmes forced a fumble on special teams, and while the Giants made multiple unforced errors - including a rare Barkley fumble that gave the Packers the lead - Tommy Pastrami would not be stopped as he engineered a game-winning FG drive for Fat Randy’s redemption.

Tommy DeVito won Rookie of the Week, his second of the season and the third in a row for the Giants. Dexter Lawrence became PFF’s highest graded defender on the season with a 93.2.

Giants win, 24-22 (5-8, 8th pick in the 2024 Draft, one game out of the Wild Card.)

Week 15: At NO.

Kicker Randy Bullock tweaked his hamstring during a kickoff and went on IR, but Gillan was able to kick his first successful FG in the NFL - having missed a 50 yarder with the Browns in 2020. Tommy Cutlets became Tommy Tenders after getting beaten, floured, and cooked by the Saints defense with seven sacks. The game was 7-6 NO at the half. Tommy DeVito would hit a milestone 1,000 yards on the season, the first NYG quarterback to do so this year.

Giants lose, 24-6 (5-9, 7th pick in the 2024 Draft. Eliminated from the Playoffs.)

Week 16: At Philly. Christmas.

Despite turning a kickoff fumble recovery and a pick into fifteen points, the Giants offense sputtered as Darren Waller dropped two key passes on third and fourth down and an attempted Hail Mary didn't make contact with anyone.

As expected, the Giants failed at the little things and turned a winnable game into an embarrassing loss, extending their streak to 0-11 in Philadelphia.

Giants lose, 33-25 (5-10, 5th pick in the 2024 Draft.)

Week 17: Home vs LA Rams. New Year’s Eve.

During the game, a commercial aired where Saquon said, “God blessed me with unbelievable talent”. Saquon Barkley would lead the team in unbelievable drops.Tyrod Taylor played with surgical precision, avoiding the open deep routes and attacking the inside routes short of the sticks. Tyrod fumbled a 4th

the league, Waller took number 12 as a reference to the 12 Step Program that helped save his life.

Jeff Smith, WR: Did not make the 53.

Parris Campbell, WR: 1 year, $3M base, 3.7M in bonuses and incentives, added some much-needed speed to our WR room that went directly to the bench.

Jihad Ward, OLB: 1 year, $1.5M.

Darius Slayton, WR: 2 years, $12M base with $4.5M in bonuses and incentives. Slayton had an immediate connection with Jones, and despite some drops in crucial moments he has been the WR1 for the Giants almost every year he’s been on the team.

James Crowder, WR: Did not make the 53, signed by the Commanders.

Andrew Thomas, LT: A no-brainer extension, Schoen’s first move after locking in Jones and Barkley was signing our All-Pro lineman to a second contract. Five years, $117.5M with $67M guaranteed.

Dexter Lawrence, NT: Another easy decision, our second All-Pro got his second contract shortly after Thomas. Four year, $90M with $60M guaranteed.

Cole Beasley, WR: Another Buffalo transplant, Beasley came in to compete in a crowded WR room and made the practice squad.

Trades:

Isaiah Simmons, DB: Traded a 2024 seventh-round pick to the Cardinals for the 2020 #8 pick. The Cardinals had already paid $5.5M of his cap hit, leaving the remaining $1.1M for the Giants.

Leonard Williams, DL: Big Cat would be traded at the deadline (Between Week 8 and 9) to the Seahawks for a 2024 second round pick and a 2025 fifth round pick.

Losses:

Nick Gates, IOL. 3 years, $16.5M with $8M guaranteed, $1.5M in incentives in Washington. Gates is an incredible presence in the locker room, and most Giants fans will be happy that he was able to get paid. He had a significant leg injury in Week 2 of 2021 against WFT, and was doubtful to come back at all. He went through multiple surgeries - similar to Alex Smith - and returned at the end of the 2022 season.

Julian Love, SS. Was offered a contract from Big Blue, but wanted to shop around. He missed his chance, and ended up taking less money to sign with the Seahawks. He made an immediate splash and made the Pro Bowl.

Fabian Moreau, CB. Contract wasn’t renewed, so he signed a one year deal with the Broncos during training camp. He was a decent starter last year, even filling in as CB1, but wasn’t a strong fit for Wink’s man-to-man scheme.

# Preseason:

Week 1: Giants vs Lions. Loss, 21-16.

Week 2: Giants vs Panthers. Win, 21-19.

Daniel Jones was named PFF’s Offensive Player of the Week and overall #1 QB, going 8/9 for 69 yards and a TD on the opening drive. His one incompletion was a pass knocked out of Waller’s hands. Jones was pulled after the first drive.

Safety Dane Belton also made PFF’s Team of the Week with two tackles for loss on 24 defensive snaps. Belton was lined up at multiple positions in the secondary.

Week 3: Giants vs Jets. Loss, 32-24.

There was some drama from a late hit and Aaron Rodgers saying “I don’t know who you are (link to Ward sacking Rodgers last year)” and Jihad Ward having the high quality wit and wordplay of the average Redditor “no u”.

# Regular Season

Week 1: SNF, Home vs Cowboys.

After an inspiring 2022 campaign and promising off-season, there was some quiet optimism that we could compete against and maybe even beat the Cowboys. (include link to Psych of Henry blocking Shawn “Get that weak-ass crap outta my house!”) However, the Giants fell apart and the Cowboys back-ups got quality reps, including TDs and sacks. Andrew Thomas, Deonte Banks, and Graham Gano all left the game with injuries. This was the worst shutout at home in franchise history. So far.

Giants lose, 40-0 (0-1)

Week 2: At Arizona.

Giants came in desperately in need of a get-right game, and could not find any sense of rhythm. They gave up 20 uncontested points, breaking an NFL record from 1989 of most points allowed uncontested to start a season (was 54, is now 60). In the third quarter, the Giants began their biggest comeback in franchise history with a perfect offense that scored on every drive. Daniel Jones became the first Giant to throw 250 yards
