The Overlap Between Genetic Susceptibility to COVID-19 and Skin Diseases
New Paper on COVID-19 by USERN Interest Group
🌀Acute acro-ischemia or chilblain like lesions were among the first recognized dermatological presentations of COVID-19.
🌀The occurrence of such lesions has been attributed to the similar interferon-1 mediated immune response in both COVID-19 and systemic lupus erythematosus.
🌀In a recent genome-wide association study, the 3p21.31 region was found to be associated with COVID-19 severity.

COVID‐19 in a case with Kikuchi‐Fujimoto disease
New Paper on COVID-19 by USERN Interest Group
🌀Kikuchi‐Fujimoto disease (KFD) or histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis is a rare and self‐limiting benign disease.
🌀The accurate diagnosis of Kikuchi‐Fujimoto disease can protect children from unnecessary diagnostic procedures and treatments. Also, the co‐occurrence of rare diseases with other diseases can improve or worsen the symptoms of the patients.
🌀To our best knowledge, this is the first reported case of KFD, who was affected by COVID‐19. Although the association of KFD and COVID‐19 cannot be confirmed in this case, considering some cutaneous manifestations of COVID‐19, such condition should not be missed.

Clinical and Demographical Characteristics of Cleft Lip and/or Palate in the Northwest of Iran: An Analysis of 1500 Patients
New Paper by USERN Interest Group
🌀Orofacial clefts (OFCs) can occur as an isolated defect or as a manifestation of other syndromes.
🌀Among 1500 patients, 441 had cleft lip, 615 had cleft palate, and 444 had cleft lip and palate. The positive family history of OFCs was found to be 20.9% to 25.4% depending on the cleft type.
🌀Accompanying anomalies were identified in 29.8% of cases. 2.9% were identified with syndromes and sequences. These included Pierre Robin Sequence, Velo-cardio-facial syndrome, and Down syndrome most frequently.
🌀These findings may provide references for appropriate resources to establish and direct counseling and primary preventive projects in the northwest of Iran.

The prevalence of post-traumatic stress disorder related symptoms in Coronavirus outbreaks: A systematic-review and meta-analysis
New Paper on COVID-19 by USERN Interest Groups
🌀Infectious disease outbreaks affect physical and mental health of humans worldwide. Studies showed that the prevalence of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms increased in these conditions.
🌀Prevalence rates of PTSD symptoms in MERS (36%) outbreaks were higher than SARS (18%) and COVID-19 (9%) outbreaks.

Drug-drug interactions with candidate medications used for COVID-19 treatment: An overview
New Paper on COVID-19 by USERN Interest Group
🌀Drug-drug interaction (DDI) is a common clinical problem that has occurred as a result of the concomitant use of multiple drugs. DDI may occur in patients under treatment with medications used for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19; i.e., chloroquine, lopinavir/ritonavir, ribavirin, tocilizumab, and remdesivir) and increase the risk of serious adverse reactions such as QT-prolongation, retinopathy, increased risk of infection, and hepatotoxicity. This review focuses on summarizing DDIs for candidate medications used for COVID-19 in order to minimize the adverse reactions.
