መጋቢት ፳፯ ጌታችን መድኃኒታችን ኢየሱስ ክርስቶስ የተሰቀለበት ጥንተ ስቅለቱ የሚታሰብበት ቀን ነው ፡፡ ይሁን እንጂ ሊቃውንተ ቤተ ክርስቲያን በዲሜጥሮስ ቀመር መሠረት አጽዋማትን በጠበቀ መልኩ ከትንሣኤ በዓል በፊት ያለውን ዐርብ “ስቅለት” ተብሎ እንዲከበር ሥርዓት ሠርተዋል፡፡መጋቢት ፳፯ ቀን በዐቢይ ጾም ስለሚውልና በወቅቱም ኀዘን እንጂ ደስታ ስለሌለ በዓል ማክበርም ስለማይፈቀድ፤ ወደ ጥቅምት ፳፯ ተዛውሮ ደስ ብሎን እንድናከብረው ቤተ ክርስቲያን ሥርዓት ሠርታለች ።

ጲላጦስ አይሁድን ከሁለቱ ማናቸውን ላድንላችሁ ትወዳላችሁ ቢላቸው በርባንን ፍታልን ክርስቶስ የተባለ ኢየሱስን ግን ስቀለው አሉ። ጲላጦስም በዚህ ሰው ደም ከመጣ ፍዳ ሁሉ ንጹሕ ነኝ ብሎ ባደባባይ እጁን ታጠበ። አይሁድ ደሙ በኛም በልጅ ልጆቻችንም ይሁን አሉ። እርሱም በርባንን ፈታላቸው ጌታንም አሳልፎ ሰጣቸው። ማቴ ፳፯ ፥፳፭
