1. Lightweight, Rotating Validators
Instead of relying on a permanent validator set, this chain uses a rotating or randomly selected group of validators — chosen per epoch or per round. Anyone staking can potentially be selected, including regular users (retail stakers). Validator duties are temporary, and participation is lightweight.
2. Bitcoin as the Final Arbiter
To keep the system honest, final state hashes or checkpoints are periodically committed to the Bitcoin blockchain. If something suspicious happens, challenges can be raised — but only through a Bitcoin-based mechanism. This adds real economic weight to disputes (you’d need to post BTC to challenge), making fraud costly.
3. Staking Without Delegation
No staking-as-a-service or delegation required. Everyone who stakes either runs a light client or joins a trust-minimized pool. Validator selection is done via cryptographic randomness (like VRF or sortition). Think of Ethereum solo staking — but even lighter and with a Bitcoin anchor.
4. Aligned Incentives Through Reward Locking
To avoid short-term profiteering, rewards aren’t instantly liquid. They could be locked, slowly vested, or even require re-staking. This keeps stakers invested in the long-term health of the network rather than just farming rewards and exiting.
Is the Osmosis validator set aligned at all ? What governs and keeps Validators in check besides getting tombstoned or jailed for missing blocks and uptime. Maybe it’s time to clean house and reduce the set even more and maintain a smaller Val set that is aligned to same core values.
