"We have investigated the effects of social isolation on the development of Trypanosoma cruzi infection in female Calomys callosus, a natural reservoir of this protozoan parasite. Animals were divided in groups of five animals each. The animals of one group were kept together in a single cage. In a second group, four females were kept together in a cage with one male. In the final group, five individuals were kept isolated in private cages. The isolated animals showed body weight reduction, decreased numbers of peritoneal macrophages, lower global leucocytes counts, smaller lytic antibody percentage and a significantly higher level of blood parasites compared to the other animals. Their behavior was also altered. They were more aggressive than grouped females, or females exposed to the presence of a male. These results suggest that isolation creates a distinct social behavior in which immunity is impaired and pathogenesis is enhanced."

The study below is what sparked my curiosity and the reason behind our last Poll. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem too conclusive... maybe I'm looking too deep into this; do you have any ideas?

"In the study, we found that the T. gondii infection significantly increased the gene transcriptional level of KBs synthesize pathway enzymes and downregulated the transcriptional level of KBs metabolism ones in the host which increased the KBs level in the host and resulted in ketonemia. However, for the T. evansi infection, it can decrease the gene transcriptional level of KBs synthesize pathway enzymes and increased the transcriptional level of KBs metabolism ones in the host"

"we have evaluated the effect of essential oils of Thymus broussonetii Boiss, an endemic plant of Morocco in experimental transmission of Toxoplasma gondii cysts in mice. These oils were obtained by hydrodistillation and were administered to mice at 20 microg/animal orally at the time of infection and for several days thereafter. This resulted in total absence of intracerebral cysts in mice who received the essential oils signifying that these essential oils of thyme have a blocking effect on the appearance of the cysts. In addition, no abnormality was observed in the control mice who received the essential oils of thyme."

Re: Populating meat with E.coli

QUESTION: I've inoculated some beef with grass-fed cow feces and have incubated this stuff in several mason jars at room temperature for 3 weeks now. I've aired it out about every three days. The stuff has fungus and I'm sure plenty of other microbes growing on it. The goal being to inoculate my gut with more E.coli and whatever other protein-digesting bacteria my gut will benefit from. Would you consider this stuff healthful to consume?

AAJONUS ANSWERS: There is a problem in your methodology if you want E.coli. E.coli is made dormant and usually killed by too much oxygen/air.

If you want to populate meat with E.coli, I suggest that you start the bacterial decomposition with little cubes of meat, as you did for 3 weeks, but without feces. Then, baste the cubes of meat with feces and place them in a jar that has little airspace; keep the lid tight and keep it in a warm place for about 3 days. You will have a lot of E.coli to introduce into your body.

If your intent is to feed your nervous system more, you might want to baste chicken or fish rather than beef.
