Asian countries are increasing oil purchases from Saudi Arabia and reducing them from Russia. This is compounded by a general decline in demand for oil in the region. Competition among suppliers may become even more intense next year.
Traditionally, the volume of Saudi oil supplied to Asian countries exceeds that of Russia. But in the last three months, the gap has widened, becoming especially significant in November. Average daily imports of Saudi oil rose from 5.28 million in October to 5.83 million barrels, according to LSEG Oil Research, while Russian oil fell from 3.96 million to 3.51 million, the lowest level since January. Thus, the gap in monthly supplies amounted to 2.32 million barrels; this has not happened yet this year.
In its quest to get currency for its oil, Russia is counting on China and India, while Saudi Arabia has a more diverse client base.
