Species: Sanfransico Garter Snake.
Found in the Sanfransico Peninsula.
This elusive and skittish garter snake is one of America's rarest species of snake. They are tiny and vibrantly colourful animals who, even before San Francisco became a major city, already had a small, restricted range. Their habitat mainly consists of grasslands and wetlands near ponds where they hunt small prey with their mildly toxic saliva, which could be classified as venom, but is entirely harmless to humans. Though their population is listed as least concern, their total wild population is estimated to be between only 1000 - 2000 induviduals and they have been considered an endangered species by the US government since the year 1967 and are protected. Urban and commercial development as well as agriculture, poaching, pesticide use, and road accidents are all significant factors in its population decline.

The people who misidentified this bear as a polar bear are incompetent and should lose their jobs, if this story is true it's insane that it happened. I seriously doubt I would make the same mistake and I do not have a degree in animal sciences.
