Check the routes file routes/web.php you'll find the default route which returns a welcome blade template. You need to edit the welcome blade template, If the change does not take effect you can clear the view cache using

I find wordpress bloated. I only use it for making small websites quickly.
For building more advanced web apps id rather do it from scratch or using a framework.
Though I have seen people doing more advanced stuff using wordpress.
I guess it's a mentality thing.

No, if you know how to create themes, plugins and post types what you can do with wordpress is potentially limitless not onlybin a cms capacity, where most people go wrong is that they view wordpress as a cms only (because that was what it was traditionally) but wordpress is muuuuch more than that, the same applies to joomla too

Wordpress gives you a false sense of plug and play. When I choose it, I don't want to work that hard going through documentations. I'd rather create my own cms then customize that.
