The 163-meter-long Russian anti-submarine destroyer Admiral Levchenko fired warning shots at a Norwegian fishing boat in the waters of Norway’s Exclusive Economic Zone.
Captain Øystein Orten and his crew of five onboard the 15-meters small fishing boat saw the huge warship sailing towards them and first stopped at a distance of 200 meters.
The warship then blew the powerful horn for about 15 seconds. It then fired a warning shot that exploded in the water.
“It was a powerful blast, our boat was shaking,” Captain Øystein Orten stated.
The Norwegian fishermen then decided to sail west and the 163-meters long destroyer followed until the fishing boat was out of the danger zone.
Since the Russian maritime exercise took place in Norwegian EEZ waters, Norwegian vessels have the right to remain in area and the Russian Navy is not permitted to force them out. Once again, the Russians are pushing boundaries and conduct hostile acts against a neighbouring state.
The Netherlands announced a new support package for Ukraine worth €210 million, aimed at restoring critical infrastructure. Dutch Foreign Minister Kaspar Veldkamp stated that Ukrainians are preparing for a harsh winter and needs help with repairs.
