Donald Trump has requested a record defense budget from Congress for 2026—$1.01 trillion.
However, it’s important to note that the discretionary budget for the Department of Defense for 2026 amounts to $892.6 billion.
The $1.01 trillion figure, hastily announced by the White House, assumes that Congress will approve an additional $119 billion in allocations that are not included in the Department of Defense budget and are not solely intended for the Pentagon.
This is driven by a large-scale military reform aimed at preparing for a potential war with China, based on lessons learned from the conflict in Ukraine.

North Korea plans to send a new batch of soldiers to Russia by the end of the summer, South Korean intelligence says
Possible dates are July or August, the National Intelligence Service suggests. The information was announced at a closed briefing.
