Where Is The Promise Of His Coming?

Many in the world today scoff at the teaching that the return of Jesus is imminent! They say, where is the promise of His coming, I’ve heard that all my life, and so did my parents before me!

Beloved, that day will come, and based on the signs around us, I don’t believe it will be delayed much longer!

That day will catch many unaware, and unprepared, because they have been lulled asleep, and become friends with the world!

Because the LORD has delayed His coming, they think He won’t come, or He won’t come anytime soon! They say in their hearts, I have plenty of time to do whatever my heart desires, I don’t need to worry about being caught unprepared!

Others don’t even believe the Word of God, or they believe the things spoken of about His return already happened in history, or that they are only allegories, and won’t happen literally!

Here’s what Peter said about that day!

2 Peter 3:3-4,8-15,17
Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of His coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. [8] But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the LORD as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The LORD is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the LORD will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of Him in peace, without spot, and blameless. And account that the longsuffering of our LORD is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; [17] Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.

We recently went through a fierce hurricane, and we tried to prepare for it! Many forecasters were like these scoffers, and minimized the power of the storm coming, or that it would impact our area! Many were caught off guard by this, and didn’t properly prepare!

Jesus told this parable about being ready for His return, and unpreparedness!

Matthew 25:1-13
Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the Bridegroom. And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. While the Bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the Bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet Him. Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. And while they went to buy, the Bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with Him to the marriage: and the door was shut. Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, LORD, LORD, open to us. But He answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of Man cometh.

Where Is The Promise Of His Coming?

The captive exile hasteneth that he may be loosed, and that he should not die in the pit, nor that his bread should fail. But I am the LORD thy God, that divided the sea, whose waves roared: The LORD of Hosts is His Name. The LORD gives us beauty for our ashes, and the oil of gladness for our mourning! We must repent when we sin, but we must also rise up and walk forward in His joy!

This passage also speaks about the coming Messiah, the LORD Jesus Christ, Who would bring salvation to all who would receive Him as their LORD and Savior!

Isaiah 61:1-3
The Spirit of the LORD GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; He hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that He might be glorified.

The LORD comforts us after our sorrow — He gives us beauty for ashes!

Thank You, LORD, for Your great redemption, and restoration, for Your presence and comfort in times of sorrow! Thank You that for sorrow, and suffering, You give joy, peace, and strength — The forgiveness of sins and healing! Thank You that out of the ashes, we can rise, in Jesus Name!

Beloved, are you prepared? Have you called upon the Name of the LORD for salvation? Are you walking in obedience to His Word? Will He find you ready and faithful when He returns? Or are you a scoffer saying, where is the promise of His return?

When we look around at the world today we see so many people in need of preparation — But not physical preparation — They need to prepare spiritually!

Here’s what His Word tells us we must do to be spiritually prepared!

Romans 10:9-15,17
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the LORD Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on Him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same LORD over all is rich unto all that call upon Him. For whosoever shall call upon the Name of the LORD shall be saved. How then shall they call on Him in Whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in Him of Whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.

When the gospel of peace was preached to the crowds after Jesus was resurrected, and ascended to heaven, the people being convicted of their sin asked Peter, what must we do to be saved? Here’s his answer!

Acts 2:37-39
Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the Name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

Beloved, as we’ve been reminded very recently — Life is so fragile! We don’t know how many days we have left to accept Jesus, even if the Father were to delay His return!

We are in desperate need of repentance, not only the lost world — But many who claim they are Christian’s!

Are you hearing the people of God calling for repentance? Jesus preached repentance, and so did His disciples! The message of repentance is desperately needed in our world today!

Matthew 4:17

Before God brings His judgment, He always gives warning and a chance to turn to Him! Just like in the story of Jonah — He sends His people to warn! And if we don’t — their blood will be on our hands!

Ezekiel 3:18-19
When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand. Yet if thou warn the wicked, and he turn not from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.

Amos 3:7
Surely the LORD GOD will do nothing, but He revealeth His secret unto His servants the prophets.

Jonah was sent to the city of Nineveh to preach to them of the coming judgement of the LORD. Nineveh was so evil, that Jonah didn’t want the LORD to forgive them. He wanted them to get what they deserved!

Cayla and I attended the ribbon cutting/open house for a new recovery center for homeless addicts today. We were invited by the Area Commander from the Wichita Salvation Army headquarters. I can't express how humbling it is to go from being a former homeless addict to sitting behind the Mayor and other community organizers to show our support for helping homeless addicts. Starting our ministry from scratch to crossing this milestone in only 7 months shows what can happen when you stay obedient to the Lord. God has enormous plans for us and our ministry. So blessed to have you all be a part of it.

Out Of The Ashes!

What is the meaning of wearing sackcloth and ashes in the Word of God?

Sackcloth and ashes were a sign of extreme mourning, and sorrow; of repentance to the LORD, and humility from His people!

In Daniel nine we see Daniel coming before the LORD and confessing his sins, and the sins of His people!

They had sinned by not listening to His Word, and walking in obedience to Him! He sent them prophets, and they wouldn’t listen to them either!

The people of God were walking in confusion because of their rebellion! They had been driven out of their land because of this disobedience!

Daniel 9:3-10
And I set my face unto the LORD God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes: And I prayed unto the LORD my God, and made my confession, and said, O LORD, the great and dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love Him, and to them that keep His commandments; We have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from Thy precepts and from Thy judgments: Neither have we hearkened unto Thy servants the prophets, which spake in Thy Name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land. O LORD, righteousness belongeth unto Thee, but unto us confusion of faces, as at this day; to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and unto all Israel, that are near, and that are far off, through all the countries whither Thou hast driven them, because of their trespass that they have trespassed against Thee. O LORD, to us belongeth confusion of face, to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers, because we have sinned against Thee. In Job, we see him in his deep affliction putting on sackcloth and ashes! Even though the Word of God tells us that Job was perfect in the eyes of the LORD, and was being tested, he realized in humility, his human frailty, and need for the LORD!

As is often the case when we are in affliction, we see the power, grace, and mercy of God more than ever! This has been true in my life! Job knew about God, but in his affliction, he experienced Him in a way he never had before!Here is what Job says near the end of his trial!

Job 42:5-6
I have heard of Thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth Thee. Wherefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes.

Beloved, the LORD wants us to turn to Him with our whole heart, realizing our own sin, and turning from it, but he also restores to us His joy, as He did David after he was confronted with his sin!

Psalm 51:7-12
Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which Thou hast broken may rejoice. Hide Thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from Thy presence; and take not Thy Holy Spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of Thy salvation; and uphold me with Thy free Spirit.

Isaiah speaks about the joy after mourning as well in this beautiful passage!

He also speaks about His comfort for His people, and God’s power over our enemies! We are not to fear man, we serve an all powerful God! He reminds us of the awesome power of our Almighty God!

Isaiah 51:9,11-17
Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of the LORD; awake, as in the ancient days, in the generations of old. Art Thou not it that hath cut Rahab, and wounded the dragon? Therefore the redeemed of the LORD shall return, and come with singing unto Zion; and everlasting joy shall be upon their head: they shall obtain gladness and joy; and sorrow and mourning shall flee away.

remembering Your hand of protection over him! LORD, we entrust him to You asking that You continue compassing him about with a shield of protection and favor! May he serve You with all his heart all the days of his life in Jesus Name!

I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like a green bay tree. Yet he passed away, and, lo, he was not: yea, I sought him, but he could not be found. Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace. But the transgressors shall be destroyed together: the end of the wicked shall be cut off. But the salvation of the righteous is of the LORD: He is their strength in the time of trouble. And the LORD shall help them, and deliver them: He shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in Him.

When we walk in obedience to the Word of the LORD — He promises to take care of us, and our enemies! Retribution against our enemies, and the wicked, is His place, not ours!

When we see them fall, we are not to rejoice!

Proverbs 24:17-18
Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth: Lest the LORD see it, and it displease Him, and He turn away His wrath from him.

Beloved, how would you fare in the courtroom of the LORD? Are you walking in His commandments? Let us each examine our hearts and ask His Spirit to search us as well!

Let’s read this verse again!

Micah 6:8
He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to DO JUSTLY, and to LOVE MERCY, and to WALK HUMBLY with thy God?

Father, forgive us when we forget Your Words, when we boast in our own strength! When we do unto others as they’ve done to us, instead of treating them the way we want to be treated! Forgive us for not having mercy towards others, but having the attitude, that they’re getting what they deserved! You have been so merciful to us, and we need Your mercy! Forgive us for not walking in humility! Help us LORD, in our weaknesses, give us the mind and heart of Jesus Christ! He humbled Himself to the point of death on the cross! Thank You, LORD that when we confess our sins, You are Faithful, and You are Just, You are Merciful to us, in Jesus Name!
