Peace In The Midst Of Troubled Times!

Jesus told us that we would have troubles in this world! But the Word of God also promised us He would give us His peace! And as His Father was with Jesus, so is He with us! We are never alone!

John 16:32-33
Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave Me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me. These things I have spoken unto you, that in Me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

David spoke these Words about the LORD being with us as we encounter trials, and tribulation in this world!

Psalm 138:7
Though I walk in the midst of trouble, Thou wilt revive me: Thou shalt stretch forth Thine hand against the wrath of mine enemies, and Thy right hand shall save me.

The LORD sees what we’re going through beloved! He hasn’t just left us to face our troubles all alone! He strengthens us, and He fights our enemies, and saves us!

There are so many scriptures in His Word that speak about the peace He gives us when we walk with Him and trust Him! Too many for me to write them all today, but I want to share just some of these promises!

I also want to come back and read the rest of Psalm 138, so we can see the context of David’s proclamation about the LORD walking with us through adversity!

I believe the LORD wants to remind us today that we can have His peace! I awoke with a chorus on my mind!

Beloved, many of us, myself included are walking through trials right now, or we are troubled and fearful about some situation in our lives, in our family, or in the world — Maybe it’s all of these things!

He wants us to know He knows, and that we can have peace!

Here is the chorus to the song!

“His peace holds us when we’re broken; sweet peace that passes understanding. When the whole world is crashing down, fall to your knees, and breathe in His peace.”

I love the story of Jesus calming the sea, because it reminds us He calms the storms in our life too!

The disciples thought that Jesus didn’t care that they were about to sink, because though the storm was raging, He was sleeping in the back of the boat!

Mark 4:37,39-41
And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. And He arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. And He said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey Him?

Matthew adds this in his account of the story!

Matthew 8:25-26
And His disciples came to Him, and awoke Him, saying, LORD, save us: we perish. And He saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then He arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.

When we are His children, walking in obedience to His Word, and trusting Him, we need not fear any thing we face! His Spirit will speak to us and say, peace be still!

We are not to be careful or anxious about anything, but rather to bring everything to Him, and instead be free of cares or worries!

And, we are to thank Him right then, and every time that concern comes back to our mind, or weighs heavy on our heart, that He is taking care of those things! When we do this, we are promised peace!

Philippians 4:6-7
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Often when we lie down at night our worries and fears come rushing to our minds, but He promises we can sleep peacefully by trusting Him!

Psalm 4:8
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for Thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.

It is interesting to note that the gods that Solomon began to serve because of pagan influence were the gods of all sorts of sexual immortality, and child sacrifice!

Brings to mind today, when we compromise the Word of the LORD and condone abortion and every kind of sexual sin!

[6] And Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD, and went not fully after the LORD, as did David his father. Then did Solomon build an high place for Chemosh, the abomination of Moab, in the hill that is before Jerusalem, and for Molech, the abomination of the children of Ammon. And likewise did he for all his strange wives, which burnt incense and sacrificed unto their gods.

This was the response of the LORD to Solomon’s sin!

[9] And the LORD was angry with Solomon, because his heart was turned from the LORD God of Israel, which had appeared unto him twice, And had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods: but he kept not that which the LORD commanded. Wherefore the LORD said unto Solomon, Forasmuch as this is done of thee, and thou hast not kept My covenant and My statutes, which I have commanded thee, I will surely rend the kingdom from thee, and will give it to thy servant.

Beloved, we must each examine our own hearts; our own lives and ask ourselves — Is what I am doing pleasing to the LORD? Does it align with His Word? Am I living seeking the desires of my flesh, or am I seeking to please Him?

When the LORD tells you to turn from evil and even to expose it, will you? Will you walk In obedience to Him even if it isn’t popular?

If you seek to please men, you may remain silent rather than face rejection, hate, and ridicule!

In John we’re told that many leaders believed the testimony of Jesus, but would not confess Him, because they didn’t want to be rejected! They loved the praise of men more than God!

John 12:42-43
Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on Him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess Him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue: For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.

When you please God, the world will often hate you, and not only the world, but those in your own family, and among your own friends!

Matthew 10:22
And ye shall be hated of all men for My Name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.

You cannot serve two masters! You can’t have one foot in the world and please Him too!

Matthew 6:24
No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other.

When you are rejected by men for pleasing God rejoice! You are blessed!

Luke 6:22-23
Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of Man's sake. Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets.

Stay true to the Word of the LORD — Seek only to please Him, and one day your faithfulness will be rewarded when you hear — Well done good and faithful servant!

Galatians 1:10
For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.

Matthew 25:21
His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

Pleasing God!

When our children, and later our grandchildren were young and did something that was wrong, we would remind them to do the right thing by saying — That’s not pleasing to God!

Who do you seek to please? Is your hearts desire to please the LORD, some person, or yourself? Whose approval do you seek?

Enoch had a testimony that I would desire to have as well — He pleased God!

Hebrews 11:5
By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.

Beloved, as a child of God, can you think of a better epitaph on your gravestone than this — He or she pleased and walked with God?

Genesis 5:24
And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.

It is a dangerous thing to be a people pleaser, or a person who seeks to fulfill the desires of their flesh!

When you live to please others, or yourself, it’s easy to fall into sin — The sin of doing things that aren’t pleasing to God, or that contradict His commandments, to fulfill your desires!

And you can start out as Solomon did — Seeking to please the LORD, but end up seeking your own desires!

1 John 2:16-17
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

Let’s look at Solomon’s life! You’ll see below that he started out loving the LORD, but not only did he let sin remain in his kingdom, he did the very things that he had expressly been told not to do in his personal life!

When we allow sin to remain in our lives and disobey the LORD, we leave the door wide open for the enemy!

Lets see what happened to Solomon!

1 Kings 3:3-14
And Solomon loved the LORD, walking in the statutes of David his father: only he sacrificed and burnt incense in high places. And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there; for that was the great high place: a thousand burnt offerings did Solomon offer upon that altar. In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, Ask what I shall give thee. And Solomon said, Thou hast shewed unto thy servant David my father great mercy, according as he walked before Thee in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with Thee; and Thou hast kept for him this great kindness, that Thou hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day. And now, O LORD my God, Thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father: and I am but a little child: I know not how to go out or come in. And Thy servant is in the midst of Thy people which Thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude. Give therefore Thy servant an understanding heart to judge Thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this Thy so great a people? And the speech pleased the LORD, that Solomon had asked this thing. And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies; but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment; Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee. And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches, and honour: so that there shall not be any among the kings like unto thee all thy days. And if thou wilt walk in My ways, to keep My statutes and my commandments, as thy father David did walk, then I will lengthen thy days.

Solomon, and his father David before him weren’t perfect men but they loved the LORD! When David sinned and the LORD sent the prophet Nathan to confront him about his sin, he repented and was deeply grieved for what he had done! Read Psalm 51 to see David’s response to his sin!

What Do We Deserve?

Is there anything we could do to merit the love and grace of God? Could we be good enough, and live lives pure enough? Could our good works outweigh our bad works, so that the LORD would see us as pure and grant us mercy?

What does the Word of God say about our own righteousness?

Romans 3:10,12
As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one. [12]They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

Psalm 14:2-3
The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God. They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

Ecclesiastes 7:20
For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.

The only person who lived a sinless life was Jesus Christ! And He did so walking as a man!

This was said of Jesus!

Hebrews 4:15
For we have not an High Priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

Now, let’s consider this. What is the greatest sin?

James 2:10
For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

All sin separates us from God!

Isaiah 59:1-2
Behold, the LORD'S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither His ear heavy, that it cannot hear: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid His face from you, that He will not hear.

If we examine our hearts and our lives, we cannot say — I have never sinned!

Beloved, there is nothing hidden from His eyes! He knows every single thing about us! If we say we are not sinners, His Word says we are not telling the truth!

Remember the woman caught in adultery? The Pharisees condemned her until Jesus wrote their own sins in the ground. When they saw He knew, they walked away in shame!

Then He told the woman He didn’t condemn her, but she must go and sin no more!

John 8:3-4,10-11
And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto Him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst, They say unto Him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. [10] When Jesus had lifted up Himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? Hath no man condemned thee? She said, No man, LORD. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

The LORD in His great love and mercy sent Jesus to die for our sins! Because of His sacrifice alone are we made acceptable to God!

2 Corinthians 5:21
For He hath made Him to be sin for us, Who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.

We have received such mercy and such grace, yet often we don’t extend that same mercy and grace to others!

We look on wicked people and rejoice when they fall, when the Word of God tells us not to rejoice!

Proverbs 24:17-18
Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth: Lest the LORD see it, and it displease Him, and He turn away His wrath from him.

Ezekiel 18:32
For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the LORD GOD: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye.

All of heaven rejoices when one sinner turns to God! Jesus told these two parables to His disciples about this!

Luke 15:4-10
What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it? And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost. I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.

Jesus Intercedes For Us!

We must surely know how powerful prayer is! We are told in God’s Word that we should always pray, bringing everything to the Father in the Name of Jesus!

But, did you know that Jesus prays for those that have come to the Father, through Him — Those who are born again?

Romans 8:33-34
Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth. Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, Who also maketh intercession for us.

He prays for us always!

Hebrews 7:25
Wherefore He is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by Him, seeing He ever liveth to make intercession for them.

This chapter of Isaiah speaks about the need for an Intercessor! Our loving and merciful Father in Heaven sent His only beloved Son as our Intercessor!

Isaiah 59:15-21
Yea, truth faileth; and he that departeth from evil maketh himself a prey: and the LORD saw it, and it displeased Him that there was no judgment. And He saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no intercessor: therefore His Arm brought salvation unto Him; and His righteousness, it sustained Him. For He put on righteousness as a breastplate, and an helmet of salvation upon His head; and He put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, and was clad with zeal as a cloke. According to their deeds, accordingly He will repay, fury to His adversaries, recompence to His enemies; to the islands He will repay recompence. So shall they fear the Name of the LORD from the west, and His glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him. And the Redeemer shall come to Zion, and unto them that turn from transgression in Jacob, saith the LORD. As for Me, this is My covenant with them, saith the LORD; My Spirit that is upon thee, and My Words which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seed's seed, saith the LORD, from henceforth and for ever.

Do you see the connection in this chapter to Paul’s Words about our spiritual armor in Ephesians 6?

Paul calls the armor — The whole armor of God! We have this armor available to us when we are born again into His Kingdom! It is His armor, but He gives it to us to use as His children — To fight for and with Him!

Ephesians 6:11
Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

I believe the LORD God Almighty, in His divine providence, directed the attention of the world to this truth, and our need for His armor, in the recent failed assassination attempt against President Trump! The attempt happened at 6:11!

Our Intercessor, Who never sleeps was not caught off guard by this attack! He was watching, just as He watches us! His eyes are always on us! Thank You, LORD!

Psalm 121:1-8
I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: He that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, He that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: He shall preserve thy soul. The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.

In the book of John we find a prayer that Jesus, our Intercessor prayed for His disciples, and all who would follow Him and become His disciples!

Jesus knows what we will face in this life, and He prayed this prayer for us! I encourage you to read all of John chapter seventeen!

John 17:9
I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which Thou hast given Me; for they are Thine.

Being King did not exempt David or Solomon from walking in obedience to the LORD, and it doesn’t exempt any leader, no matter their title! We must always live our lives to please the LORD no matter our station in this world!

In addition to leaving the pagan high places, another of Solomon’s grave mistakes was — He made an alliance with Egypt, by marrying Pharaoh’s daughter!
We are not to make ungodly or forbidden alliances in order to fulfill our purposes!

1 Kings 3:1
And Solomon made affinity (alliance) with Pharaoh king of Egypt, and took Pharaoh's daughter, and brought her into the city of David, until he had made an end of building his own house, and the house of the LORD, and the wall of Jerusalem round about.

Both of these things were not pleasing to the LORD! Solomon knew full well what the Word of God was about this!

Deuteronomy 12:2-3
Ye shall utterly destroy all the places, wherein the nations which ye shall possess served their gods, upon the high mountains, and upon the hills, and under every green tree. And ye shall overthrow their altars, and break their pillars, and burn their groves with fire; and ye shall hew down the graven images of their gods, and destroy the names of them out of that place.

Judges 2:2-3
And ye shall make no league (alliance) with the inhabitants of this land; ye shall throw down their altars: but ye have not obeyed My voice: why have ye done this? Wherefore I also said, I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be as thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare unto you.

Despite these things, the LORD was still patient with Solomon, as he is with us!

But — Also despite all the wisdom the LORD gave Solomon he ended up doing what the Word of God had forbidden! He accumulated wealth, and married many wives, and not only many wives, but pagan wives at that!

1 Kings 11:1-11
But king Solomon loved many strange women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh, women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Zidonians, and Hittites; Of the nations concerning which the LORD said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall not go in to them, neither shall they come in unto you: for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods: Solomon clave unto these in love.

The warning from God’s Word was not heeded and it was fulfilled that Solomon’s heart was turned away from pleasing the LORD and following His commandments!

[3] And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines: and his wives turned away his heart. For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as was the heart of David his father. For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites.

This is what the LORD had commanded, that Solomon disregarded!

Deuteronomy 17:16-20
But he shall not multiply horses to himself, nor cause the people to return to Egypt, to the end that he should multiply horses: forasmuch as the LORD hath said unto you, Ye shall henceforth return no more that way. Neither shall he multiply wives to himself, that his heart turn not away: neither shall he greatly multiply to himself silver and gold. And it shall be, when he sitteth upon the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write him a copy of this law in a Book out of that which is before the priests the Levites: And it shall be with him, and he shall read therein all the days of his life: that he may learn to fear the LORD his God, to keep all the Words of this law and these statutes, to do them: That his heart be not lifted up above his brethren, and that he turn not aside from the commandment, to the right hand, or to the left: to the end that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he, and his children, in the midst of Israel.

Beloved, You see a person the LORD once blessed so tremendously because they desired to walk with Him, and please Him can — By being disobedient to the LORD, end up turning from Him and doing evil!

Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it? And when she hath found it, she calleth her friends and her neighbours together, saying, Rejoice with me; for I have found the piece which I had lost. Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.

Beloved, there is so much evil in this world, and so many wicked people! We can pray that it all be revealed, and reveal it ourselves when we see it, but our hearts must still be that of the LORD! We must live even our enemies!

Many times in the Word, we see God using affliction in lives to cause people to turn to Him! We see Him send judgements to wake up sinners!

Even now He delays the return of Jesus for judgement, because His heart is still filled with grace and long suffering! He’s giving more time for these wicked ones to repent!

2 Peter 3:9
The LORD is not slack concerning HID promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Let’s join our hearts with His heart and pray that sinners turn to Him! Pray as I do for all of us that the LORD would do whatever it takes in their lives, and in ours to make our hearts completely His!

Let’s pray that He brings down the wicked, but that in their affliction they will turn to Him in repentance and be saved while they still have opportunity!

None of us deserved God’s mercy, but He freely gave it to us!

Matthew 5:7
Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

Jesus told us we are to show mercy to others!

Luke 10:30-37
And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead. And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side. But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him, And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee. Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves? And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.

I discovered during one night when i woke up and was just letting my eyes travel around the room that I could see the room but that my eyes were closed. I could see my room through my eyelids. And yes i was awake.

This past week while in the shower ( I have been experiencing balance issues.) I realized that when i shut my eyes i could again see through my eyelids and i was able to maintain my equilibrium to find soap, rinse out shampoo etc.

Only God and God alone could have done that and all the Glory goes to Him.
He knows what we need and meets those needs in unusual fascinating ways.
I have tried but it doesn't just happen at will. (At least not yet)

We have the ability to see into the darkness both Spiritually and naturally.
The Lord is opening Eyes, restoring sight to the blind, opening our eyes to our blind spots. All He is asking is that we look.
He is just so much fun to hang out with.

[20] Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on Me through their word.

Knowing that Jesus is looking on from heaven, and never sleeps gives me great comfort! Knowing that He prayed for me while on this earth, and is still praying for me does as well!

And His Spirit in His children, is also praying for us!

Beloved, you can’t have a more complete and powerful prayer backing than that! But we are also to pray for our leaders, and for one another — Even our enemies!

Romans 8:26-27
Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit Itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And He that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because He maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

Our Intercessor — Jesus prayed that we would have joy! Our lives can be filled with His peace and joy even when we pass through the darkest moments, even through the valley of the shadow of death — Because we know He is with us!

John 17:13
And now come I to Thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have My joy fulfilled in themselves.

Jesus knew we would be in a battle to the end — That we would always be fighting evil, until He returned!

John 17:15-16
I pray not that Thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that Thou shouldest keep them from the evil. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

And finally in His prayer, recorded by John, He prayed we would know that He is coming back for us!

This world and all its trials won’t last forever! We who are born again by believing on the Name of Jesus for salvation will spend eternity with Him!

John 17:24
Father, I will that they also, whom Thou hast given Me, be with Me where I am; that they may behold My glory, which Thou hast given Me: for Thou lovedst Me before the foundation of the world.

Jesus spoke these Words of comfort to His disciples, right before He ascended to heaven!

John 14:1-3
Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto Myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

Beloved, in a world filled with evil, and where evil is especially directed towards those who would fight to expose it — Take comfort!

Jesus, your Intercessor is praying for you!

Thank you for praying for my son. His anxiety is about 99% gone. At times, when it tries to come back, he commands it to leave in Jesus’ name & it does. He’s back to getting on with his life.
