Though None Go With Me!

Are you willing to walk in obedience to the LORD, even if no one else walks with you?

While He walked on this earth, there came a time in Jesus’ walk where He walked alone!

In His darkest hour all His disciples turned away from Him! They didn’t understand that He must fulfill the purposes for which His Father sent Him!

Matthew 26:36,38-39,56
Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder. [38] Then saith He unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with Me. And He went a little further, and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, O My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from Me: nevertheless not as I will, but as Thou wilt. [56] But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook Him, and fled.

There’s a chorus that’s often sung after a person gives their life to the LORD, and follows in His command to be baptized! The lyrics are below!

“I Have Decided To Follow Jesus, No Turning Back, No Turning Back.

The Cross Before Me The World Behind Me, No Turning Back, No Turning Back.

Though None Go With Me, Still Will I Follow, No Turning Back, No Turning Back.”

David wrote about those who once walked with him, but had turned away. It’s a very painful thing to feel the sting of betrayal, especially from those closest to you!

The friend David refers to In this passage was most likely Ahithophel, who had once been his trusted friend and counselor. However, Ahithophel later joined with David's son, Absalom in an attempt to usurp David!

I believe this Psalm may also prophetically speak about the betrayal Jesus would experience not only by Judas, but by all those who walked with Him, but turned away!

Psalm 55:12-14
For it was not an enemy that reproached me; then I could have borne it: neither was it he that hated me that did magnify himself against me; then I would have hid myself from him: But it was thou, a man mine equal, my guide, and mine acquaintance. We took sweet counsel together, and walked unto the house of God in company.

Isaiah spoke these Words about Jesus!

Isaiah 53:3
He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from Him; He was despised, and we esteemed Him not.

Beloved, if our Savior was willing to walk alone in obedience to His Father, so must we be willing to do so as well! He is our example!

Recently the LORD impressed these words on my heart!

‘Don’t ever be afraid to stand alone when you stand for things the LORD convicts you about. He will be standing with you!’

We can draw strength from Jesus’ willingness to walk alone with God, trusting in His guidance and provision!

Deuteronomy 31:6
Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, He it is that doth go with thee; He will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

Joshua 1:5
There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

As the LORD has been with others who walked in obedience to Him — He will be with you!

The LORD walked with Enoch!

Genesis 5:24
And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.

The LORD walked with Noah!

Genesis 6:9
Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.

The LORD walked with David!

1 Samuel 17:45
Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of Hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, Whom thou hast defied.

The LORD walked with Abraham!

Hebrews 11:8
By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.

The LORD walked with Esther!

Samuel continued to teach the people the need to trust in the LORD, and he continued to pray for them — “Only fear the LORD, and serve Him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things He hath done for you.”

The LORD was their rightful King, but they refused Him! How often God’s children today commit the same sin! We trust in a man to save us, instead of looking to the LORD! We too cry out — Give us a king we can see!

Beloved, who are you trusting in? Are you trusting in the LORD, or a man to save you? Are you demanding a king, when He wants you to trust Him alone?

Psalm 20:6-9
Now know I that the LORD saveth His anointed; He will hear him from His holy heaven with the saving strength of His right hand. Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the Name of the LORD our God. They are brought down and fallen: but we are risen, and stand upright. Save, LORD: let the King hear us when we call.

A leader, in this case a King, who is a child of God cannot separate his Christianity from his leadership position! He still must obey God first in all things!

Jeremiah 11:11-15
Therefore thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon them, which they shall not be able to escape; and though they shall cry unto Me, I will not hearken unto them. Then shall the cities of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem go, and cry unto the gods unto whom they offer incense: but they shall not save them at all in the time of their trouble. For according to the number of thy cities were thy gods, O Judah; and according to the number of the streets of Jerusalem have ye set up altars to that shameful thing, even altars to burn incense unto Baal. Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up a cry or prayer for them: for I will not hear them in the time that they cry unto Me for their trouble. Jeremiah cried out for all the earth to hear the Word of the LORD! Will you hear His voice today, and turn from your rebellion, and sin in humility and repentance?

Jeremiah 22:29
O earth, earth, earth, hear the Word of the LORD.

So many Christians today think a person who speaks out about sin is intolerant. But to not speak out against sin, and warn of its consequences is not loving at all, but it says — I don’t care about your eternal destination! You are actually damning a person to hell by your silence and by your tolerance!

But they say, we must accept and love the person so they will turn to the LORD! Yes, we must always love sinners, because we too were sinners saved by God’s grace! But we must love them enough to speak truth, risking the wrath of that person, and everyone else!

Jesus went into the temple with a whip and drove out those desecrating the temple! He turned over the tables of the money changers, and He spoke truth to them as He did it! Does that sound loving?

Paul, when he heard about the sexual sin going on with members of the church at Corinth, rebuked the church for not calling out the sin, and for allowing that person to remain in the church! He even said to turn them over to Satan for the destruction of their flesh, so that their spirit could be saved!

1 Corinthians 5:1-7
It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife. And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you. For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that hath so done this deed, In the Name of our LORD Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our LORD Jesus Christ, To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the LORD Jesus. Let’s close today with the warning Jesus gave to the church at Thyatira, about tolerating sin!

Revelation 2:20-23
Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest (tolerate) that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce My servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols. And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not. Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds.

Give Us A King!

The people of God have always strayed from trusting in the LORD alone! Though they were warned time and time again not to be like the nations around them, they were drawn into worldly thinking! The same is true of the people of God today!

It’s difficult to be in the world, and not become like the world!
Samuel was called by the LORD to be a prophet, but his sons did not walk in his ways, but became enthralled by the things of the world.

1 Samuel 3:19
And Samuel grew, and the LORD was with him, and did let none of his Words fall to the ground.

Let’s read the story of God’s people asking for a king to rule over them!

1 Samuel 8:4-10,19
Then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together, and came to Samuel unto Ramah, And said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations. But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the LORD. And the LORD said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected Me, that I should not reign over them. According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even unto this day, wherewith they have forsaken Me, and served other gods, so do they also unto thee. Now therefore hearken unto their voice: howbeit yet protest solemnly unto them, and shew them the manner of the king that shall reign over them. And Samuel told all the Words of the LORD unto the people that asked of him a king.

[19] Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, Nay; but we will have a king over us; That we also may be like all the nations; and that our king may judge us, and go out before us, and fight our battles.

When the people of God refuse His Lordship, He gives them over to the desires of their flesh! They have to learn the hard way that it is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man!

Psalm 118:8-9
It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in princes.

Hosea 13:11
I gave thee a king in mine anger, and took him away in my wrath.

1 Samuel 10:18-19
And said unto the children of Israel, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I brought up Israel out of Egypt, and delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all kingdoms, and of them that oppressed you: And ye have this day rejected your God, who Himself saved you out of all your adversities and your tribulations; and ye have said unto Him, Nay, but set a king over us. Now therefore present yourselves before the LORD by your tribes, and by your thousands.

They had a King — The LORD God, but the people demanded a king like the nations around them. A man they could see with their eyes! Their folly would lead them and their children into servitude, but they didn’t care, and continued to cry out — Give us a king!

1 Samuel 12:12-25
And when ye saw that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon came against you, ye said unto me, Nay; but a king shall reign over us: when the LORD your God was your King. Now therefore behold the king whom ye have chosen, and whom ye have desired! and, behold, the LORD hath set a king over you.

The LORD was still merciful to His people, for His Name sake, and told them that if they would fear His Name, and walk in His commandments He would be with them and their king. He also warned them of the consequences of not doing so!

[14] If ye will fear the LORD, and serve Him, and obey His voice, and not rebel against the commandment of the LORD, then shall both ye and also the king that reigneth over you continue following the LORD your God: But if ye will not obey the voice of the LORD, but rebel against the commandment of the LORD, then shall the hand of the LORD be against you, as it was against your fathers. Now therefore stand and see this great thing, which the LORD will do before your eyes.

President Trump says that he is a Christian, and as a Christian he cannot set aside the commandments of God for political purposes.

If President Trump wants my vote, he will have to repent and once again agree to protect every precious child born and unborn, and the sanctity of Biblical marriage between a man and a woman!

I don’t vote for any candidate that holds the views he is now openly espousing.

I will trust God with who He allows to become the next President, because with either one of these choices this nation will not be blessed!

If Christians would all stand up he might just change his mind, but I’m not seeing that happening, and it is truly heartbreaking to me that they only make excuses for him not walking in obedience to God’s Word, and holding him accountable!

Others say, we must vote for the lesser of two evils, but the Word of God says this —

Abstain from ALL appearance of evil.
1 Thessalonians 5:22

The lesser of two evils is still evil!

Abortion is murder, and homosexuality is an abomination!

Tolerating Sin!

What happens to a person, or to a nation that continues to tolerate sin in their personal lives, or in the world around them?

Jeremiah cried out over and over again to God’s people, begging them to turn from their wickedness, and disobedience, but they refused time after time to heed his warnings about the consequences their sin and rebellion would bring!

Finally the LORD tells him not to even pray for them anymore! Does that sound unjust? God is not unjust!

Jeremiah 7:13-28
And now, because ye have done all these works, saith the LORD, and I spake unto you, rising up early and speaking, but ye heard not; and I called you, but ye answered not; Therefore will I do unto this house, which is called by My Name, wherein ye trust, and unto the place which I gave to you and to your fathers, as I have done to Shiloh. And I will cast you out of My sight, as I have cast out all your brethren, even the whole seed of Ephraim. Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them, neither make intercession to Me: for I will not hear thee. Seest thou not what they do in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem? The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke Me to anger. Do they provoke Me to anger? saith the LORD: do they not provoke themselves to the confusion of their own faces? Therefore thus saith the LORD GOD; Behold, Mine anger and My fury shall be poured out upon this place, upon man, and upon beast, and upon the trees of the field, and upon the fruit of the ground; and it shall burn, and shall not be quenched. For I spake not unto your fathers, nor commanded them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices: But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey My voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be My people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you. But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in the counsels and in the imagination of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward. Since the day that your fathers came forth out of the land of Egypt unto this day I have even sent unto you all My servants the prophets, daily rising up early and sending them: Yet they hearkened not unto Me, nor inclined their ear, but hardened their neck: they did worse than their fathers. Therefore thou shalt speak all these Words unto them; but they will not hearken to thee: thou shalt also call unto them; but they will not answer thee. But thou shalt say unto them, This is a nation that obeyeth not the voice of the LORD their God, nor receiveth correction: truth is perished, and is cut off from their mouth.

Beloved, the LORD is patient with us, as He was with them, but a continual stubbornness, and rebellion against the LORD, and His Word will not go unpunished!

God’s own people turned against Him after all He’d done for them! They went to others for their help; to idols, instead of trusting in Him!

They followed the desires of their flesh, instead of Him! So many who proclaim they are children of God today do the very same thing!

Galatians 5:16-17
This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

Walking in disobedience to God’s Word is rebellion, beloved! The Word of God goes even further and says that rebellion is like the sin of witchcraft! If you refuse to obey His Word, you are shaking your fist in the air against Almighty God, and choosing to fight Him! Woe be unto the person, or the people who do fight against the LORD!

I contacted you last fall to pray for my 21 year old son... who was depressed/anxious and had devolved into a cocaine problem to try and cope while away at college.

I am happy to report he is drug free and even off of the prescription anti-depressants they put him on for 3 months while he did intense therapy.

He is happier than I've seen him in quite some time and just started back to school (here instead of away) and says the cravings have completely gone away and said his brain is "working again"!

I'm writing to share wonderful news! Rod is improving! Since you prayed for him, he went from planning his funeral to talking about joining a gym for regular exercise! All in one morning lol! He's frail yet for such a large man, but remarkably improving! GOD is so GOOD!

Regarding Darryl, I felt an immediate weight, a dark oppression lift away the day you prayed for him, and left with a light feeling of faith and hopefulness! Just this week he was offered a position close to home as a GM over something he is passionate about, and allows him flexibility to spend time with and support his family! Additionally, my daughter (his wife) was offered a nearby position as well, a raise of $6,000 per year! no more commuting! I cannot thank you enough for your prayers! Each of them were feeling defeated, depressed and lacking confidence. The LORD turned each of them, an immediate about face, utter relief and joy in accepting change for the best! Thank you YESHUA, what an amazingly wonderful GOD you are!!! All PRAISE and GLORY in your name!

I want to point out something very important here that the LORD would have us know! When our hearts are not right with the LORD; when we are not walking in obedience to his Word; we will have no peace!

Often the LORD sends adversity into our lives when we are straying from Him! There will be no true peace until we repent and turn back to the LORD!

Psalm 119:46-47,66-67
I will speak of Thy testimonies also before kings, and will not be ashamed. And I will delight myself in Thy commandments, which I have loved. [66] Teach me good judgment and knowledge: for I have believed Thy commandments. Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept Thy Word.

Psalm 32:3-5
When I kept silence, my bones waxed old through my roaring all the day long. For day and night Thy hand was heavy upon me: my moisture is turned into the drought of summer. Selah. I acknowledged my sin unto Thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and Thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah.

David knew that though he was walking in the midst of a fallen and ungodly world, he must still be faithful to the LORD and sing His praises in the midst of his surroundings! He knew the LORD was watching him and listening for his cries for help, and would give him peace!

I said we’d get back to Psalm 138, so here is the rest of it.

I will praise Thee with my whole heart: before the gods will I sing praise unto Thee. I will worship toward Thy holy temple, and praise Thy Name for Thy lovingkindness and for Thy truth: for Thou hast magnified Thy Word above all Thy Name.

Psalm 138:3
In the day when I cried Thou answeredst me, and strengthenedst me with strength in my soul.

The LORD is magnified when we praise Him in the midst of our distress; and when others see us walking in His peace even though trouble is all around us!

Psalm 138:4-5
All the kings of the earth shall praise Thee, O LORD, when they hear the Words of Thy mouth. Yea, they shall sing in the ways of the LORD: for great is the glory of the LORD.

The LORD reaches out to those who are humble enough to know they need Him, but He doesn’t come near the prideful man, who thinks he can handle everything on his own! He gives His peace to those who trust Him!

Psalm 138:6
Though the LORD be high, yet hath He respect unto the lowly: but the proud he knoweth afar off.

Psalm 138:7
The LORD will perfect that which concerneth me: Thy mercy, O LORD, endureth for ever: forsake not the works of Thine own hands.

So as we began with verse 7 of this Psalm we see that because we serve a loving, caring, and all powerful God, we too can say as David did — Though I walk in the midst of trouble, I know the LORD will help me!

Let’s close with some scriptures that speak of this peace we can have when we walk with Him!

Proverbs 3:1-2
My son, forget not My Law; but let thine heart keep My Commandments: For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.

Galatians 5:22
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith…

Psalm 85:8-13
I will hear what God the LORD will speak: for He will speak peace unto His people, and to His saints: but let them not turn again to folly. Surely His salvation is nigh them that fear Him; that glory may dwell in our land. Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other. Truth shall spring out of the earth; and righteousness shall look down from heaven. Yea, the LORD shall give that which is good; and our land shall yield her increase. Righteousness shall go before Him; and shall set us in the way of His steps.

Psalm 29:11
The LORD will give strength unto His people; the LORD will bless His people with peace.

Romans 15:13
Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.
