I got sucker punched in the face last week by one of the guests. Addiction and mental health are a huge contributor to the homeless crisis. Often times is a combination of the 2. I believe he was strung out and having a bad day. He wasnt making any sense verbally. I tried to go talk to him but he wasn't in the right state of mind. I refused to press charges. It's never personal, however it is spiritual. Unfortunately he was banned from the shelter for a year which is sad because right now our temps are in the single digits. It's a rough environment but there is not one situation I can think of that would ever make me stop going. Hopefully I will see him on the streets eventually and we can have a conversation. I know the devil is not happy with me being at the shelter. I get reminded evweytime I go serve. Keep us in your prayers. 🙏💙

Longing For Him!

David wrote Psalm 63 to the LORD while in the wilderness, and in the midst of difficult circumstances! He longed for God in the midst of the evil around him!

Do you feel like David when you look at the world around you today? There are so many who call themselves the people of God, who are walking in evil!

Sometimes it feels like there is not one righteous person, truly seeking something other than their own desires!

Romans 3:10-18
As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness: Their feet are swift to shed blood: Destruction and misery are in their ways: And the way of peace have they not known: There is no fear of God before their eyes.

Even though the world around us is full of compromise and evil, we too must remember our God as David did, and seek Him!

Is God your longing? Do you thirst for Him, or has your heart been captured by the world, and the things in it?

Psalm 63:1-11
O God, Thou art my God; early will I seek Thee: my soul thirsteth for Thee, my flesh longeth for Thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; To see Thy power and Thy glory, so as I have seen Thee in the sanctuary. Because Thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise Thee. Thus will I bless Thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in Thy Name. My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise Thee with joyful lips: When I remember Thee upon my bed, and meditate on Thee in the night watches. Because Thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of Thy wings will I rejoice. My soul followeth hard after Thee: Thy right hand upholdeth me. But those that seek my soul, to destroy it, shall go into the lower parts of the earth. They shall fall by the sword: they shall be a portion for foxes. But the king shall rejoice in God; every one that sweareth by Him shall glory: but the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped.

It’s not easy to praise the LORD when our circumstances are difficult, but that is when praise is the most powerful!

When we praise God, He draws near to us! The Word says, He inhabits the praise of His people!

Psalm 22:3
But Thou art holy, O Thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.

I’ve told this story a few times, but maybe you missed it, or need to hear it again!

When my granddaughter’s were about 4 and 5, we driving on our way to an appointment. As we drove, we were pointing out and talking about everything that God had made. The girls would both point to things and ask me if God make that. Our conversation turned to praise to God for His great power! All of a sudden the 5 year old asked, “Does God have wings?" I told her, yes the Bible talks about His wings a lot. By this time we had stopped the car and she blurted out, "I feel His wings wrapped around me!” There was a pause then she said, "He's snuggling me up!” I looked back at her in her car seat and she had her little arms wrapped around herself and was just glowing! God came down to her and He did inhabit her praises to Him!

That conversation and the image of that precious little five year old has helped me through many times of fear and despair. Many times I felt alone and burdened!

Beloved, even in the midst of your circumstances and the evils around you, will you praise Him?

Psalm 84:2
My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the LORD: my heart and my flesh crieth for the living God.

Psalm 84:10
For a day in Thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.

Each day we are to be ready and watching for the return of the LORD knowing that He will give us all the strength we need to face whatever we are called to face that day!

And ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their Lord, when He will return from the wedding; that when He cometh and knocketh, they may open unto Him immediately. Blessed are those servants, whom the LORD when He cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that He shall gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them. And if He shall come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants. And this know, that if the goodman of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broken through. Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of Man cometh at an hour when ye think not.

We must hold fast each day to our faith in the LORD, and stand firm in our confession so that no one takes our crown!

Just when it doesn’t seem any of the elect will survive these last days of great deception and trial, God will shorten this period of tribulation!

Matthew 24:21-25
For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened. Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not. For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. Behold, I have told you before.

Revelation 12:10-11

Many scoff at those who say we are in the last days, and warn of the deception! Their eyes are darkened to see the truth! Many are in love with this world and have placed their hope in the things here instead of in the LORD!

God will smite our enemies!

Psalm 3:1-8

Even in the midst of our enemies the LORD will surround us with His favor!

Psalm 17:8-9
Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of Thy wings, From the wicked that oppress me, from my deadly enemies, who compass me about.

Psalm 5:11-12
But let all those that put their trust in Thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because Thou defendest them: let them also that love Thy Name be joyful in Thee. For Thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt Thou compass him as with a shield.

We find in the story of Joseph this kind of favor and peace with one’s enemies and captors brought about only by the LORD!

Joseph was seeking to please the LORD, and because of that He gave Him favor in the eyes of his enemies!

Genesis 39:2-4
And the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. And his master saw that the LORD was with him, and that the LORD made all that he did to prosper in his hand. And Joseph found grace in his sight, and he served him: and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand.

Esther found this favor and peace in the midst of her enemies as well!

Esther 5:2
And it was so, when the king saw Esther the queen standing in the court, that she obtained favour in his sight: and the king held out to Esther the golden sceptre that was in his hand. So Esther drew near, and touched the top of the sceptre.

We are to live at peace with others — As much as we can do without compromising living a holy life — “If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.”

Romans 12:14-21
Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not. Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep. Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits. Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the LORD. Getting to feed them and share the love of Christ everyday with all my homeless friends is not only my passion, it is me honoring the commitment I made to God when I cried out to him when I was a homeless addict.

Dave,

I wanted to share a story with you about an EMS run I was on. I was the medic I charge on a chest pain run. Unpon our arrival, I was met by the patient's wife outside who began screaming at us to hurry up.

Inside, I met her husband who then began yelling at us to do something as he clutched his chest. I put a quick 12 lead on him which verified a STEMI and transmitted it to the hospital to start the cath lab team.

The patient couldn’t understand why I did this and was very angry with me but doing this assembles the cardiac team to immediately take him to the cath lab. The patient continued to yell at us while clutching his chest and wouldn’t allow us to further help him. I remember bluntly praying to myself” Lord you have to help me, this guy's being a complete asshole and he’s dying but keeping us from helping him, calm him down.”

We then got him on the cot and in the medic unit. Our on scene time was about 5 mins. I gave him some Nitro and Asa and was starting an IV, when he went limp and I saw V-fib on the monitor. I began to start compressions and called my partner to pull over and give me a hand. I was praying over him under my breath as I did compressions. My partner hooked up the quick comb pads as I did compressions and we shocked him once. We immediately got a pulse back. We were 2 miles out from the hospital and I told my partner to drive fast.

The patient then woke up and looked at me with a frightened look and said “ I’m so sorry I was such an asshole to you.”

I was kind of shocked that he said that. I smiled and said "no worries man we were just trying to help you." He immediately went to the cath lab and made full recovery. He later came to the station to thank us.

When I shook his hand, I asked him if he remembered anything. He said “When I passed out, all I remember was the sound of your voice loudly praying over me, it was deafening.”

I didn’t know how to respond and was a little choked up because when I prayed it wasn’t more than a whisper as I was doing compressions. It was really cool to see that God used me to help this man. That event changed how I thought about prayer.

Daniel tells us the wicked will continue in their wickedness, without understanding what is happening! They will cheer on the antichrist system thinking it is good!

Daniel 12:10

But those walking in the light of His Word will understand!

1 Thessalonians 5:2-6
For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the LORD so cometh as a thief in the night. But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.

Beloved, trying times are ahead, but don’t fear what is to come! Be ready and keep your eyes on Him, watching for His return! He will take care of you through each day! Walk with Him one day at a time, waiting daily at His gates for His provision and guidance!

Proverbs 8:34-35
Blessed is the man that heareth Me, watching daily at My gates, waiting at the posts of My doors. For whoso findeth Me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the LORD.

Each Day Has Enough Trouble!

Do you find yourself wondering what the future has to hold? If we are living in the last days as many, including myself believe we are, then we know there are hard days ahead!

The Word of God tells us much of what is to come, though the exact details of how these things will play out may only be known as they happen! Then we will have understanding!

We are not to fear or worry ahead about any of the things that are coming, but rather we are told to rejoice when we see the signs being fulfilled!

Luke 21:28
And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.

Luke 21:28 AMP
Now when these things begin to occur, stand tall and lift up your heads [in joy], because [suffering ends as] your redemption is drawing near.

Each day has enough trouble of its own — Therefore do not worry about tomorrow!

Matthew 6:34 KJV
Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

Another version says it this way!

Matthew 6:34 ESV
Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

We are promised that the LORD will keep us during this time! He will give us the strength we need to face one day at a time!

Revelation 3:10-12
Because thou hast kept the Word of My patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth. Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown. Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of My God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the Name of My God, and the Name of the city of My God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him My new Name.

As we have learned before, the verb in the verse above for "I will keep", "ek" is translated "from", and the time period is "the hour of trial". The understanding then is that God will keep us, from the beginning of the hour of trial onwards.

We are told we will be here during this time of trouble!

Matthew 24:29-31
Immediately AFTER the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: And then shall appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of Man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And He shall send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

Though we are not to fear the days ahead, we are to be prepared! First of all we must be prepared spiritually!

Are you born again through faith in Jesus Christ! Have you called upon the Name of the LORD for salvation? Have you been baptized by immersion, in obedience to His Word?

When you believe in Him for salvation you receive His Spirit! You will have oil in your lamp!

Acts 2:37-39
Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the LORD our God shall call.

Make sure you have oil in your lamp when He comes!

Matthew 25:1-13
Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.

Can We Have Peace With Our Enemies?

When we take a stand for the Word of God and refuse to accept compromise in our lives, in the church, or even in the world we will have enemies! We are told this throughout God’s Word that!

Matthew 10:34-39
Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man's foes shall be they of his own household. He that loveth father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after Me, is not worthy of Me. He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for My sake shall find it.

Yet, we are also told that when our ways are pleasing to the LORD, He will cause even our enemies to be at peace with us!

Proverbs 16:7
When a man's ways please the LORD, He maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.

A divine paradox indeed! How can those two seemingly opposing views be reconciled?

Only God can do it, as we seek Him first! We must then leave the rest to Him to sort out!

Matthew 6:33
But seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

We all want other people to like us, and sometimes we will do almost anything to win their approval! But the Word of God tells us we must seek to please only Him without compromise!

In the sermon on the Mount Jesus said — Blessed are the peacemakers!

Matthew 5:9
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

Our effort to be peacemakers might make us more appealing to those around us, even our enemies, but even when it doesn’t, we are still pleasing God, and His is the only approval that truly matters!

Peace — But not at the expense of holiness!

Hebrews 12:14
Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the LORD.

We are not to love the approval or praise of man! We are to seek peace with God!

John 12:42-43
Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on Him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess Him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue: For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.

2 Timothy 2:3-4
Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please Him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.

Jesus, our example sought only to please His Father!

John 8:29
And He that sent Me is with Me: the Father hath not left Me alone; for I do always those things that please Him.

Paul sought to please God and be at peace with Him!

Galatians 1:10
For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.

It would seem then that if peace with our enemies is to be had as we live Godly lives, it will only come as we seek to please the LORD! He will be the one who causes our enemies to be at peace with us!

Our part is to live a Godly life and walk in His Word! We are not to walk with the ungodly, but rather turn away from them! Yet even then the LORD can give us peace — Though He has prepared a table for us in the presence of our enemies!

The LORD will deliver us as He did Paul out of all the troubles, and persecutions brought on by his enemies, and this evil world, that is only becoming more evil each day!

2 Timothy 3:1-5,10-17
This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

Love Not The World!

Do you feel like a stranger on this earth? For children of God, there’s a reason for that feeling! This world is not our home! We are strangers here!

1 Chronicles 29:15
For we are strangers before Thee, and sojourners, as were all our fathers: our days on the earth are as a shadow, and there is none abiding.

Hebrews 11:13
They were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.

1 Peter 2:11
Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul.

David said he longed for the courts of God!

Psalm 84:2
My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the LORD: my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God.

Beloved, we live in this world, but we are not of the world! If we were the things we see here wouldn’t grieve us as they do!

John 8:23

Jesus knew it would be difficult for His followers in this world! He prayed for us!

While we are here, we will battle the evil forces of this world, but He’s given us His Spirit, and powerful weapons to overcome the enemy!

Ephesians 6:12-13
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

We are not to love this world, or to make friends with it! Our longing is for another world, our true HOME!

This world is not our home, we’re just passing through! Don’t desire earthly things! Desire Him!

Hebrews 13:14-15
For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come. By Him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to His Name.

Rebuking sin is not being judgmental in the sense of thinking we are better than another! As we saw above, we are told to judge sin, both in ourselves and in the church! Rebuking sin is the only loving thing to do! Not rebuking it is not only unloving, but disobedient to God’s Word and will bring judgment on ourselves!

Ezekiel 3:18-21
When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand. Yet if thou warn the wicked, and he turn not from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul. Again, When a righteous man doth turn from his righteousness, and commit iniquity, and I lay a stumblingblock before him, he shall die: because thou hast not given him warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteousness which he hath done shall not be remembered; but his blood will I require at thine hand. Nevertheless if thou warn the righteous man, that the righteous sin not, and he doth not sin, he shall surely live, because he is warned; also thou hast delivered thy soul.

1 Corinthians 11:31-32
For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged. But when we are judged, we are chastened of the LORD, that we should not be condemned with the world.

Paul told the Corinthian church above that he had already made a judgment, and they should have as well!

1 Corinthians 6:1-3
Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unjust, and not before the saints? Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters? Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?

We don’t know what’s in a person’s heart, but we are told to judge fruits! Fruits or actions tell the real state of a heart and soul!

We are to be fruit inspectors, and especially in these last days filled with deception! Not everyone who claims to be a Christian is!

Matthew 7:15-23
Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. Not every one that saith unto Me, LORD, LORD, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of My Father which is in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, LORD, LORD, have we not prophesied in Thy Name? and in Thy Name have cast out devils? and in Thy Name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from Me, ye that work iniquity.

So many don’t call out sin, because they are not themselves walking in the light! They don’t want their own sins to be exposed or reproved!

John 3:19-20
And this is the condemnation, that Light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than Light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the Light, neither cometh to the Light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

Beloved, where are you today? And what is your response to sin? You should be mourning!
