Termination of German military aid to Ukraine will cost Germany "much more" than its continuation - November analysis by the Kiel Institute for World Economics (IfW).

According to the report, between February 2022 and August 2024, Germany provided Ukraine with military assistance totalling €10.6 billion. This corresponds to an average of about €4 billion a year, or about 0.1% of Germany's gross domestic product (GDP).

On the other hand, a victory for Russia in its aggressive war against Ukraine would lead to a significant increase in Germany's costs due to higher defence spending, additional refugee arrivals, and a loss of trade and investment with Ukraine, the report says. According to the authors, under this scenario, Germany's annual expenditures would amount to 1 to 2% of GDP, which is about 10 to 20 times more than the current military support to Kyiv.

We are very grateful to Germany for standing with Ukraine and supporting us. I am sure that the government of Germany realizes what is at stake.

Dmitri Medvedev wrote about US elections on his Telegram channel (in the very early hours of Sunday morning). Translation is below.

It looks like Medvedev threatened Donald Trump with an assassination (he said Trump could become "the new JFK") and poured dirt on Kamala Harris.

From his furious ramblings, one thing is crystal clear: Russia fears continued US support for Ukraine. Therefore, this is the right course of action.

Medvedev's post:

"The world is frozen in awkward postures in the run-up to the election of the President of Overseas Pindostan.

We have no reason for any inflated expectations.

1. The election will change nothing for Russia, as the candidates' positions fully reflect the bipartisan consensus that our country must be defeated.

2. Kamala is stupid, inexperienced, easily-led and will be afraid of everyone around her. A synclite of top ministers and deputies plus indirectly the Obama family will rule.

3. A jaded Trump, spouting platitudes like "I'll offer a deal" and "I have a great relationship with..." will also be forced to comply with all the systemic rules. He can't stop the war. Not in a day, not in three days, not in three months. And if he really tries, he could be the new JFK.

4. Only one thing matters: how much money the new POTUS will spend on someone else's faraway war. On its own military-industrial complex and for the embezzlement by the Bandera bastards.

5. Therefore, the best way to make the 5th of November pleasant for the candidates for the highest American office is to keep smashing the Kyiv Nazi regime!"

Financial Times: South Korea considers direct military support for Ukraine, which could prove decisive in the war against Russia

South Korea has supported Ukraine throughout the war by providing humanitarian aid and helping replenish U.S. artillery supplies. However, South Korea’s policy only permits weapon exports for “peaceful purposes,” so it has not sent lethal aid directly to Ukraine. Recently, news of North Korean troops joining Russian forces has led Seoul to reconsider its stance.

Key points to consider:

▪️President Yoon Suk Yeol, known for his “hardline” approach to North Korea, sees this deployment as a serious security threat, fearing it could give North Korean troops combat experience and lead to Russia sharing advanced military technology with Pyongyang.

▪️The leftist opposition in South Korea, which holds a majority in parliament, is strongly against any interference by their country in what they see as a “proxy war in a faraway land”. They fear that South Korean cooperation with Ukraine may lead to escalation and even potential war on the Korean peninsula.

▪️The Korean society is not very supportive of the idea of supplying weapons to Ukraine, either. Only 13% of South Koreans want their country to provide lethal aid, while 66% prefer focusing on humanitarian aid.

▪️Since the Korean war in the 1950’s, Seoul has built an impressive military industry to deter their Northern neighbor. In fact, simply in the act of replenishing US supplies sent to Ukraine, South Korea has supplied more weapons than all European countries combined. If they choose to supply lethal aid directly to Ukraine, they can turn the tides in this war, experts think.

▪️President Zelenskyy plans to send a delegation to Seoul to request artillery and air defense systems. The decision on whether or not to fill this request depends on the intensification of cooperation between Russia and North Korea. South Korea’s decision will likely depend on whether Russia is confirmed to be sharing advanced military technologies with North Korea.

The North Korean deployment may not have a decisive effect on the battlefield, but it can seriously tip the scales on the international arena.

When Ukrainians talk about Russian colonialism, many people in the West do not understand us. They still believe the myth of Russia as a multicultural country that fights against old empires and stands for a multi-polar world.

The USSR spent a long time cultivating this image of an anti-imperialist force, juxtaposing it with the “rotten West”, which has colonized countries across the world, and "continues to oppress other countries and cultures on the international stage".

In the past and present, Russia has taken an active part in colonial and neocolonial pursuits across the world.

Let’s take Africa as an example:

▪️ In the late 19th century, Russia attempted to join the "scramble for Africa" alongside other European powers – only their spectacular failure at this venture protects them from rightfully being counted among the colonizers. Nikolai Ashinov proposed plans to conquer Sudan and Ethiopia, leading to initial enthusiasm among Russian officials. Alongside military ambitions, there were proposals to establish a joint-stock company for resource extraction in Ethiopia, reflecting the economic motivations behind these colonial aspirations. Ashinov's initial settlement attempt in Djibouti failed due to lack of resources and subsequent abandonment, while the Russian efforts in Ethiopia were characterized by exploitation and a focus on self-promotion rather than genuine colonial governance.

▪️ A number of African countries have fond memories of Soviet support for their independence struggles in mid-20th century. But while the USSR (and now Russia) seek to portray their motives as noble and altruistic, it was, in fact, in a battle for influence with the United States. Soviet authorities deployed a full arsenal of “active measures” – propaganda, manipulation of local media, and forgery of evidence of “Western plots” included. For example, the KGB worked hard to stoke Ghanaian leader Kwame Nkrumah’s paranoia against the CIA, leading him to accuse the US of plotting his overthrow, as recorded in the Mitrokhin archives.

▪️ Today, Russia continues to use the legacy of Soviet support to pursue its goals in Africa. The Kremlin’s activities are focused on destabilizing states to serve its strategic interests, largely through military influence and economic exploitation. For example, Russia supports regimes in Mali and the Central African Republic (CAR) with arms and Wagner Group mercenaries, fostering dependency and political leverage. Disinformation campaigns amplify these efforts by sowing anti-Western sentiments, allowing Russia to secure access to resources and political loyalty. This approach weakens African governance, entrenching instability that favors Moscow's influence over the continent.

While the West’s colonial history in Africa is undeniable, Russia’s own imperialism — including its ongoing expansion — discredits any moral high ground it claims. Although the Soviet Union once supported some African liberation movements, both then and today, Russia’s anti-imperialist rhetoric serves as a cover for its self-interest and control, including:
▪️weapon sales;
▪️construction and operation of nuclear power plants: nuclear power plants require close cooperation between security services through control over production of enriched uranium, and technological and financial dependence on the reactor designer;
▪️rights to natural resources across the continent;
▪️army and defense recruitment.

All in all, we are seeing the Russian influence in Africa grow. However, I am sure that the leaders of African countries are also increasingly understanding that Russia's presence is a national security threat, not a solution to their problems.

African countries' liberation struggles against colonizers are close in spirit to the resistance of the Ukrainian society to the Russian invasion.

The countries of Africa and Ukraine have a lot in common, many similar unhealed wounds. We need to talk to each other more.

The second round of presidential elections has started in Moldova.

The pro-European Maia Sandu, who advocates integration with the EU and a complete severance of relations with Russia, and the former Prosecutor General Stoianoglo, who also advocates integration with the EU but intends to develop relations with Russia, are competing for the future presidency.

According to Reuters, Sandu won 42% of the vote in the first round of elections held on 20 October, while Stoianoglo received 26%.

The polarization between pro-European and pro-Russian camps in Moldovan society is very strong, and it’s hard to predict who will win. One thing we know for sure - this is a key election for Europe.

The results will determine whether another Eastern European country is about to fall back into the Russian orbit of influence, like Georgia.

Ukraine has developed a prosthesis that controls drones with the "power of thought".

The new MARS prosthesis control system uses special sensors and artificial intelligence to recognize muscle movements. The prosthesis can literally understand the user's intentions.

This approach makes prosthesis control more natural, and in the future, opens up new opportunities for controlling technologies such as drones.

The user will be able to control the drone by changing the position of the prosthesis in space and tensing different muscles. The principle is similar to a computer mouse: the hand movement controls the direction and angle of the drone, and muscle tension controls functions such as pressing buttons.

Esper Bionics is already testing a prototype, and next year, they plan to produce a version for the market.
