📊 9/10 🔥
When asked to describe the record, the band do so vividly, “Imagine if NECROPHAGIST and MESSUGGAH were married, and CYNIC and EXTOL got married, then years later they went to a swingers party to spice up their relationships, which then became a regular thing. From this, they all had a kid together, no one knows who the biological father is, but that’s cool because they’re co-parenting. That kid then grows up, idolizing David Lynch, Ridley Scott and film noir. He then goes to film school for a couple of years, but drops out because he’d rather play synth music, but ends up broke and homeless. “Datalysium” would be that kid.”

📊 10/10 🔥
Scintillating rounds of energetic technicality are seamlessly blended amongst vibrant synth elements and powerful melodies to keep your attention fixed until the very end.

All I know at this point is that Datalysium has been worth the wait, exceeds the hype, and is an utterly essential listen if you’re a fan of modern technical/progressive metal.

❍ Aube Noir by Orob (2021)
❒ Reviews:
This was a strangely pleasing album in many ways. In the Extreme Metal scene, and especially the Progressive side, French bands are one of the stronger countries leading the charge.
⇝ Metal-Temple 8.5/10 🔥
French black metal has an array of talent across the spectrum from the perfidious (Deathspell Omega) to the atmospheric (Blut Aus Nord) to the brutal (Otargis), yet it also boasts an underground that’s just as potent as the nation’s death metal scene. This is a dark and mystical flame of post-black metal with many enchantments and an abundance of imagination.

A pretty colorful and stellar album.
NO DEBUT SHOULD BE THIS GOOD WHAT THE HELL?!
⇝ The Progressive Subway 8 🔥
It’s rare in metal today to find a band that genuinely sounds unique. Sure, The Anchoret has a ton of evident influences but it’s also doing something different from all of them and, for the most part, pulling it off expertly.
⇝ Angry Metal Guy 7 🔥
Delivering just under an hour of eclectic, electrifying guitar-work and impressively powerful yet creatively-nuanced drumming – all topped off with passages of flittering flute and squawking saxophone, as well as some utterly sublime (yet never overbearing) synths and a plethora of plaintive, poignant melodies – It All Began With Loneliness takes a little bit of everything you already love about Progressive Rock/Metal and reminds you just why you love it in the first place.

❍ Between The Day & I by Atlases (2023)
❒ Reviews:
This album is indeed different than a lot of Metal out there. First, the band embraces several different styles…including Core, MeloDeath, Electronic, and some atmospheric qualities. Second, they play with a genuineness and a confidence not heard very often. Third and finally, and perhaps most fittingly, they play with a “fuck you” attitude to anyone out there. Take their music or leave it…I will gladly take it.
⇝ Metal-Temple 8.5/10
Between The Day & I is good, but it’s not great. It’s respectable as evidence of a band unwilling to be confined to a single niche, and of one that’s able to get on top of the fundamentals of the new style at the first time of asking.

❍ Odyssey to the West (2023 Remaster)
by Slice The Cake
══════
❒ Reviews:
This is a progressive metal album, through and through, and Slice the Cake have perfectly utilised a combination of classic progressive metal structuring along with some pointers from their ever-present Shakespearean tragedy influence to create a record that flows beautifully in and out of a number of moods.
⇝ The PROG Mind
Odyssey to the West is masterful. It’s majestic. In all honesty, this is the level of quality that musicians should strive for when releasing albums, barring the accompanying strife. Minor nuisances aside, Slice the Cake have collectively managed to craft something special, across both sea and sorrow.

❍ Rejecting Obliteration
by Blindfolded and Led to the (2023)
══════
❒ Reviews:
This makes for an enjoyable juxtaposition, in that on the surface of it the music is relatively easy to get on board with, but has a lot going on, seething and roiling beneath the surface. In other words, the songs are well-written and have longevity built into them through their intricate depths.
⇝ Wonderbox Metal
Blindfolded and Led to the Woods have definitely found their voice, and Rejecting Obliteration is a testament to that. Filled with carefully-crafted riff eccentricity, brutality, disquiet, and thoughtful lyrics, it’s an album that stands alone, a singular listening experience in the metal scene as we know it. I recommend it highly.

❍ Meridian (2021) by Hippotraktor
❒ Reviews:
this is a very good progressive post album. I would say this is a good primer for a new fan to get into the other Pelagic Records albums. Or for fans of djent that want to get into more sludge and post-metal; I think the modern cleanliness and dynamics of this album would appeal a lot to fans of Periphery, even though this is something entirely different.
⇝ Sputnikmusic 4/5
Some of that comes from De Graef’s vocals, with his clean tones working really nicely with the atmosphere built by the music, but the elaborate heavy grooves, distinctive exploration of soft/loud dynamics and forceful intensity of the harsher moments are all in the same vein as his other band’s music.

Psygnosis are setting off once again for a faraway galaxy with ‘Mercury’, their first album since signing with Season of Mist. And while lead single “Öpik-Oort” shoots past the 10-minute mark, it’s not a slow burn by any means. ❍ Along the Meandering Ordeals, Reshape the Pivot of Harmony
by Woe Unto Me (2023)------------
❒ Review:
WOE UNTO ME is a doom metal band from Belarus who formed in 2007. 'Along the Meandering Ordeals, Reshape the Pivot of Harmony' is their third full length album. I suppose the best sub genre to put them into would be funeral doom. However, I don't think calling them gives the full idea of what they truly bring to the table for doom. Although no doubt a dark, heavy and depressing band, their sound is much more expansive and varied than the average funeral doom band. In some ways, their sound is progressive in how far they are willing to stretch themselves. 'Along…' is all doom and gloom but it isn't all cavernous—the album has an open sound that is very exploratory without forgetting the roots of the genre.

❍ 16 by Einar Solberg (2023)-------------------
❒ Review:
... At times vibrant and alive and other times dark and moody, musically 16, covers everything from pop, folk, electronic music, funk, hip hop, prog rock, and metal with the use of live musicians, programming, songwriters, and composers. Guitars, strings, synths, choirs, and samples all mixed with Einar’s emotional and dynamic vocals keeps everything as a kaleidoscope of musical ideas spinning in nearly every direction.
Despite this, 16 truthfully sounds remarkably coherent. A feat in of itself, considering the number of people involved in this enormous project. A list which includes Ihsahn, Magnus Børmark, and The City of Prague Philharmonic Choir just to name a few.

❍ Hainin
by Daliborovo Granje (2020)
══════
❒ Review:
The title “Hainin” (synonymous with traitor, outlaw, thug) is a solid proof of the irresistibleness of their rhythms, along with “Lost” and “Shadow in the Mechana” best manifests their musical philosophy. The envelope itself is absolutely in the service of the name of this album, it contains a photograph of a man from an Austro-Hungarian prison from the early 20th century. The band is interested because of his gaze in which repentance is manifested (a convenient parallel with Raskoljnikov), the repentance experienced by Hainin for his misdeeds.
