در چنین روزی در سال ۲۰۰۰، گروه «اِ پرفکت سرکل» (A Perfect Circle) نخستین آلبوم خود با نام «Mer de Noms» را روانه بازار کرد.
این گروه که با هدایت مینارد جیمز کینن (خواننده گروه تول) و بیلی هاوردل شکل گرفت، توانست با تلفیق ظرایف سمفونیک و فضاهای تاریک آلترناتیو متال، هویتی مستقل و بدیع در موسیقی خلق کند.
در زمان ضبط این اثر، راب هالفرد از گروه جوداس پریست با شنیدن قطعات اولیه، به آهنگی که بعدها «Judith» نام گرفت اشاره کرد و گفت: «اگر این قطعه را به عنوان تکآهنگ نخست منتشر کنید، تنها به واسطه آن یک میلیون نسخه خواهید فروخت.»
این پیشبینی به حقیقت پیوست. آلبوم پس از انتشار در رتبه چهارم جدول بیلبورد ایستاد که تا آن زمان بالاترین جایگاه تاریخ برای نخستین آلبوم یک گروه راک محسوب میشد و در نهایت گواهی فروش پلاتینوم را از آن خود کرد.
