The reason you're giving could happen, but the chances are kinda low from a technical POV. Octo explanation lowkey makes way more sense to me.

A Telegram Mini App already gets stuff like your Telegram ID, username, profile pic, and display name. As for your phone number? Nah, Telegram ain't just handing that over for free. It'll literally pop up a "Share your phone number with this bot?" prompt, and only if you tap Allow does the Mini App get your number. That's the part a lot of people miss, fr.
