US Credit Card Delinquency Rates Worst On Record
US credit card delinquency rates were the highest on record in the fourth quarter, according to an analysis by the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia.
Approximately 3.5% of credit card balances were 30 days past due at the end of December.
That is the highest the number has been since 2012, and it's up from three basis points from the previous quarter.
The debts that are also 60 and 90 days late also increased.
Approximately 10% of credit card users now have a balance of over $5,200, the Philadelphia Fed said.

China Asks Telecom Carriers To Drop Foreign Chips
Beijing has ordered telecom carriers like China Mobile Ltd. to replace foreign chips in their core networks by 2027, the Wall Street Journal reported.
The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued the directive earlier this year, the Journal reported, dealing a potential blow to US chipmakers.
China's three state carriers are among the biggest cloud and data center providers in the country, using chips from US suppliers.

France Tells Citizens Not To Travel To Iran, Lebanon, Israel, Palestinian Territories
The French and Indian foreign ministries advised French citizens against traveling to Israel and Iran, as well as other countries in the Middle East, Reuters reported on Friday.
The French foreign ministry added that relatives of Iran-based diplomats would return to France and that French civil servants are now banned from conducting any missions in Iran, Lebanon, Israel, and the Palestinian territories.
India has also advised its citizens against traveling to Iran and Israel until further notice in light of the "prevailing situation in the region," the foreign ministry said on Friday.

US Airlines Ask Biden To Block Flights to China
The US aviation industry has asked the Biden administration to pause approval of additional flights to and from China, saying Beijing’s "existing harmful anti-competitive policies" hurt American airlines and workers.
The letter said, "If the growth of the Chinese aviation market is allowed to continue unchecked and without concern for equality of access in the market, flights will continue to be relinquished to Chinese carriers at the expense of US workers and businesses."
China's Foreign Ministry said on Friday that increasing direct flights was the "consensus reached" when Chinese leader Xi Jinping and US President Joe Biden met in San Francisco in November.

Moderna Pauses Kenya Vaccine Plant
Moderna announced Thursday it had paused its plans to build a vaccine manufacturing plant in Kenya, due to a post-pandemic decline in demand for Covid-19 vaccines.
The company is currently developing mRNA vaccines for HIV and malaria.
"Given this, and in alignment with our strategic planning, Moderna believes it is prudent to pause its efforts to build an mRNA manufacturing facility in Kenya," Moderna said.
"This approach will allow Moderna to better align its infrastructure investments with the evolving healthcare needs and vaccine demand in Africa," it continued.
In 2022, the company had announced it was investing $500 million in the facility in Kenya, and it would supply 500 million doses of the mRNA vaccines to Africa.
Moderna said it lost more than $1 billion related to the cancelation of orders from Africa.

German Parliament Votes To Legalize Gender And Name Changes
German lawmakers on Friday approved legislation that will make it easier for transgender, intersex, and nonbinary people to change their name and gender on official records.
The "self-determination law," one of several social reforms that Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s liberal-leaning coalition government pledged when it took office in late 2021, is set to take effect on Nov. 1.
The German legislation will allow adults to change their first name and legal gender at registry offices without further formalities. They will have to notify the office three months before making the change.
