HSBC Sued by Australian Regulator for Scam Loss Failures

Australia’s markets watchdog sued HSBC Bank of Australia Ltd. for failing to protect customers who lost millions of dollars in scams.

HSBC received about 950 reports of unauthorized transactions between January 2020 and August 2024, resulting in customer losses of about A$23 million ($14.6 million), according to an Australian Securities and Investments Commission statement Monday. Around A$16 million of this occurred in the six months from October 2023 to March 2024.
“ASIC alleges HSBC Australia failed to have adequate controls in place to prevent and detect unauthorized payments and failed to comply with its obligations to investigate customer reports of unauthorized transactions within the specified time frames required, and to promptly reinstate their banking services in a timely manner,” according to the statement.

ASIC said the bank on average took 145 days to investigate client reports that they had been scammed, the statement said. ASIC said HSBC Australia’s failings were widespread and systemic.

“We are considering the matters raised and will continue to co-operate and work constructively with ASIC,” a spokesperson for HSBC said in an email.

“Protecting our customers from scammers remains a top priority. We continue to make significant investments in our fraud and scam prevention, detection, and response.”

What a wonderful way to finish off 2024! Thirty-three beautiful souls gathered in a cozy private area to enjoy wonderful company and a delicious lunch. After the meal we played trivia, featuring the Divine ICOs, which was a perfect way to celebrate during the Christmas season. As usual time went by way too fast, and we gathered outside for more conversations, including reflecting on QSI events of 2024 and looking ahead to 2025. The amount of love shared amongst our members surely impacted others nearby!

XLM Price Prediction, Could Stellar Hit $2? Expert Insights

Furthermore, based on the pattern, XLM could potentially surge by 537% to reach the $3.04 level in the future.

On the positive side, XLM’s Relative Strength Index (RSI) remains below the overbought zone, indicating that the asset has sufficient room to rise in the coming days.

This bullish technical analysis is further supported by on-chain metrics. According to the on-chain analytics firm Coinglass, XLM’s spot inflow/outflow data reveals that exchanges have experienced a significant outflow of XLM in recent days. Over the past 10 trading days, exchanges have witnessed a substantial $117.80 million worth of XLM outflow.

The first across the state, multiple city F2F event was a huge success! Members signed up for 5 events in different cities from Statesville to Wilmington North Carolina in a one day Blitz! Many members attended multiple cities as we worked our way throughout the day.
