Momodou Taal, a British-Gambian PhD student at Cornell University, made a sudden decision to flee the United States after immigration authorities attempted to deport him over his pro-Palestine activism.
Speaking to Middle East Eye’s Big Picture Podcast, Taal said the decision to leave was very abrupt. “It became increasingly clear to me that even with a court order, my safety was not going to be guaranteed.”
He added that his departure was driven by the “lawlessness” of the Trump administration, which had targeted international students and scholars voicing support for Palestine.
Last month, Taal took legal action against Trump, slamming his efforts to deport those protesting against the war on Gaza.
American doctor Tanya Haj Hassan, who volunteered in a medical mission in Gaza, described the terror she experienced when Israel reignited its genocidal war in Gaza on March 18, escalating its attacks across the enclave and massacring hundreds.
Haj Hassan criticized media companies’ double standards regarding the ongoing genocide in Gaza, emphasizing their complicity in the massacres committed against civilians.
