Economic shockwaves are expected to sweep across the world after US President Donald Trump announced a new set of tariffs on Wednesday, arguing that they would allow the United States to economically flourish.
A senior White House official told reporters that Trump would impose a "baseline" tariff on all imports to the US. Eleven countries will pay a 10% tariff rate, which will go into effect on April 5. Other key countries will face tariffs of more than 10%.
Trump said, "For decades, our country has been looted, pillaged, raped, and plundered by nations near and far, both friend and foe alike." EU chief Ursula von der Leyen called Trump's tariffs a "major blow to the world economy," while China, which faces a 54% rate, promises countermeasures.
The UK has decided to draw up a list of US products it could target with tariffs in response to the new tariffs announced by Donald Trump last night.
On April 18, 1996, Israeli artillery fired shells to rescue a Maglan unit caught in an ambush in the village of Qana, southern Lebanon. Four shells struck a UN compound sheltering refugees, killing 102 civilians, including many children.
The tragedy of Qana was etched into history as a symbol of indiscriminate warfare. Now, nearly three decades later, Israel is replicating Qana almost daily in Gaza, with no outcry or demands for restraint.In its opening strike of this reignited war on Gaza, Israel killed 436 civilians, including 183 children and 94 women.
This is equivalent to four Qana massacres or more. This week, details emerged of yet another horrifying massacre, possibly the most gruesome yet: the execution of medical teams in Tel Sultan, Rafah. Fifteen bodies were discovered, including one with bound legs and another riddled with 20 bullets. All were buried in sand atop one another, alongside wrecked ambulances and firefighting vehicles.
Israeli occupation forces launched a wide-scale detention campaign in Al-Fawwar camp, south of Hebron in the occupied West Bank, detaining several Palestinian youths.

The provincial government in southern Syria’s Deraa governorate said that at least nine civilians were killed and several injured in an Israeli shelling near the city of Nawa, which came after an Israeli sudden incursion for the first time to this depth.
