A new lawsuit in Kentucky is exposing how US institutions are weaponizing the IHRA definition to silence pro-Palestinian voices.

Tenured law professor Ramsi Woodcock was banned from teaching and barred from the University of Kentucky’s law school after describing Israel as a colonial project and calling for global accountability for its crimes.

Woodcock says the university violated his First Amendment rights, using anti-discrimination rules to punish political speech about Israel rules that do not apply to criticism of any other state. His case is the first direct legal challenge to the constitutionality of applying IHRA and Title VI to suppress debate on Palestine.

Since the investigation began, Woodcock has been cut off from students, faculty meetings, and even entering the law school, while external pressure and political hysteria, echoed by Kentucky lawmakers, push for harsher action.

NEW | Al-Haq, a leading Palestinian human rights organization, is facing severe pressure after being sanctioned by the Trump administration for supporting ICC investigations into Israeli crimes.

Staff now work without pay as banks closed their accounts, US funders withdrew, and tech platforms removed content documenting Israeli crimes. Even longstanding allies have gone silent, “fearing repercussions”.

Shawan Jabarin, Al-Haq’s director, denounced the sanctions as a political attack aimed at silencing accountability for Israel’s human rights violations. Despite the obstacles, the group vows to continue documenting attacks and abuses, supporting legal action through the ICC, and defending Palestinian rights.

“The US administration is supporting the rule of the jungle, not the rule of law. Palestine is the test for all people of conscience,” Jabarin said, stressing that global civil society must resist attempts to suppress justice for Palestinians.
