On November 10, 2023, Dr. Iyad Al-Rantisi, a compassionate Palestinian obstetrician and head of the Maternity Department at Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahia, northern Gaza, was abducted by Israeli occupation forces.

His only “crime” was treating the wounds of his own people. Israeli occupation forces stormed Kamal Adwan Hospital, forcing everyone to evacuate and detaining Dr. Al-Rantisi at the Netzarim checkpoint.

He was then transferred to a Shin Bet interrogation center, where he was subjected to electric shocks, severe beatings, and other forms of torture.

After a week of relentless abuse, Dr. Al-Rantisi was killed under torture, for his devotion to healing and humanity.

The bill, proposed by Likud lawmaker Ariel Kallner, would allow Israel to permanently close foreign media outlets, regardless of whether the country is in a state of emergency or at war.

Previously, in April 2024, the Knesset passed a law giving the prime minister and communications minister the authority to ban foreign media considered to “harm Israel’s security.”

Palestinian analyst and lawyer Diana Buttu warns that Israel’s campaign of ethnic cleansing against Palestinians has become entrenched as policy. “The whole Zionist project is built on genocide, that’s how Israel was created, and that’s how it continues 77 years later,” she said.

Buttu condemned the so-called Trump plan, saying it has “normalized genocide” and emboldened Israel to act with total impunity.
